My first car was a 1980 280 ZX 2 + 2. I was the third owner and drove it throughout college and well over 130,000 miles. Stored it for a few years but basically gave it away when we needed a third baby car seat. Still have some great pics and memories of that car.

Was this the car in 'Smokey and the Bandit"? Just kidding of course, but the paint combination is reminiscent of that disco era! Thanks for featuring this car Lou. Unfortunately you very seldom see these cars this well preserved partially because the Datsun purists consider the original 240 to be the ultimate because of their very basic sporting nature while these cars are a GT version that outsold the original about 4 to 1. I love these cars! My 83 is bright Red with black/grey interior with all the best options like the analog dash and the Marantz like stereo option. Has the talking lady too! It came to Central Oregon from S. California, and other than the high end repaint is original and as nice as this one. Really appreciate the variety of automobiles you feature!

Beautiful looking Datsun ZX. I remember this generation Datsun Z. I remember at the time finding this more attractive than its predecessor, the 240Z-280Z. These days, I love them all. :)

It was complex but very easy to work on. I adjusted the valves myself once a year and everything that ever went wrong with mine I fixed, including the clutch. Wasn't exactly easy but I had already done it twice to my 78 280 Z.

Lou Costabile that car holds a special place in my heart. At the time I had a 78 Z and the 80 ZX. I loved them. I can still smell the engine bay. A friend whom I haven't seen in years had the gold n black special edition I told him if he ever decided to sell it to call me, no negotiation I'd give him whatever he wanted. I'd find the money.

A pretty unique and optional feature beginning in 81 was Nissan's "Voice warning system". Basically instead of a warning chime, you got a female voice that would play out of a phonograph under the dash. It would politely blurt out messages such as L/R Door Is Open, Parking Brake Is On, Lights Are On, and the most important Fuel Level Is Low. Maybe you will get the pleasure to feature this in one of your videos Lou.

Hi Scott Bivins, Sometimes I do ask that info. however this this Channel is purely fun, visual design, unique badging, sound of the engine and exhaust (when I can start them) and stories from the Care Takers or people who own them on "Why this car?" Stats like horsepower ratings, torque, differential sizes, etc, would be a Channel like "Motorweek" or "Car and Driver" or "Muscle Car of the Week" which are all great Channel's too. Hi, at the end of the vid when you started it, it did a (small) backfire, did you find out what caused that? Mine did it ones when the airfilter was out and open.. (btw it's an air mass meter not sensor.. ;-) ) yeah i'm a nittpicker..sorry.. Art.

@2:08 "Z28" is a Camaro not a Datsun :D. I have 3 ZXs and when you say "I have a Z" many people would thing Z28, but I think that's changed over the years. This was made in 12/79 so it got the same seats as the 79, but has the "pre flight check" button by the tach. 79 also got the chrome parts on the bumpers. Amazing car. That other one in the background looks like Nugget Gold, 2 seater, TTop with the same flat tail lights, so probably an 1980 as well. Both those colors are amazing, I'd love either one.

Hahah That's THE "Black Goooold" 280ZX with the Good Year Wingfoots. one of those tires were in the trunk of my '81 Trans Am :P Those black gold 280ZX weren't so common, but you can find'em ;D I almost bought a 280ZX beater one time. I'd rather a 240Z

It's a beautiful car. I remember going to the local Datsun dealership here where I lived to look at them. My friends and I would sit in it in the showroom and dream of owning one.
