Nice 280zx truly a 80s Icon.

I have an 81turbo. Absolutely love it. It was my first vehicle back in 98 when I was 16 and still have it to this day. So much fun to drive. Has 70k miles on it blue with a black hood. Leather interior, T top, 5 speed. Kept it all original. Didn't put any aftermarket radio or anything in it. It's old but I kinda like the old radios in these Zs

The 1981 Datsun 280ZX Turbo was only offered in the Turbo's first initial year as an automatic. 82-83 Turbos had the optional 5 speed manual or the automatic. I own a 81 Turbo with an automatic and an 83 Turbo with a manual and a digital dash. I sure would like to see this unicorn you speak of because this comment you made smells like...

Replace the valve stem seals NOW. Wouldn't be a bad idea to swap out the fuel injectors and insulator too. Just talking from experience.

I can see what you mean by valve stem seals some the Datsun/Nissan cars of the seventies and eighties were known for burning oil and of course rust.The end of the day these cars are around forty to fifty years old with the problems of cars of that age and that era.

Sending unit is probably bad

And have it rust proofed!

Doug N It won’t help. Can’t be driven in snow! Especially in areas that salt! I had one rust out over one winter in Cleveland. The rust gets in between the steel layers.

Car is highly rust prone. Look in old Comsumer Reports.

Josiah Walker I’m sorry I wasn’t understood. Rust proofing only slightly prevents rust. 280zx is a RUST MONSTER! Can’t be driven on salted roads. Other cars of the era also rusted, but not any where near 280zx. A fun car though.
