On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Pheonix AZ on 1-31-24.
We're looking at a 1966 Buick Wildcat Custom 2 Door Coupe in Seafoam Green Paint. The car comes with the 425 CI Nailhead V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Anson Renshaw. Anson’s had this car since 1994. Anson shares his Grandmother who lives in Alaska bought this car new. She decided it might be time to give the car to someone who would care for the car. Clearly she picked the right Caretaker picking her Grandson Anson. Today, Anson and his Son’s will celebrate the car turning over 10,000 original miles and I’m along for the ride too. The car is just as it was when it came from the Dealership new and is even riding on the original tires!
ENJOY!

Beautiful car - typical first rate GM styling of the 1960's! It amazes me how GM at that time could build vehicles that looked different from the same basic platform but abandoned that starting in the 1970's and completely by the 1980's and beyond. Beautiful color combination inside and out. Once again you found a jewel, Lou!

My Dad was a building contractor when he was a young man then became a General Manager of a Buick dealership and then a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealership.. This was during the early and mid sixties. He would bring home the sweatiest cars available at that time. I was in my early teens and allowed to walk through the dealership and get into all the cars. Great memories........thanks Dad

I don't think the paint companies even make acrylic lacquer anymore, which is what GM passenger cars were painted with all the way thru most of the 1980s. GM cars were acrylic lacquer and GM trucks were acrylic enamel. Urethane was becoming the popular new thing for automotive paint in the mid 80s. Paint companies like DuPont, PPG, Glasso were all coming out with urethane systems, and somewhere along the 90s all car makers started using basecoat/clearcoat urethane paint systems. You could still buy acrylic lacquer in OEM colors at the paint store all day long during the 90s, but eventually it started becoming scarce. One day circa 2004 I went to get some acrylic lacquer and they told me they no longer stocked it and could only get it by special order. Today they don't carry it at all.

@@dancerjim In the 60s acrylic lacquer was the latest thing, that's why GM called it "Magic Mirror Finish". Before that the common automotive paint was nitrocellulose lacquer, which is why cars from the 30s thru the 50s have a different look in the paint finish. GM used acrylic enamel on their trucks because it was a little tougher, and acrylic lacquer on the cars because it was a little prettier. Ford and Chrysler used only acrylic enamel on everything, cars and trucks. Today urethane paint has made all that obsolete. All car makers have embraced it because it has a lot of superior properties compared to the older paint types. If you have a classic car that needs paint work it can put you in a difficult situation if you want to keep the paint all OEM type, especially for spot repairs.

"So, wouldn't you really rather have a Buick...a Buick...a '66 Buick...Wouldn't you rather have a Buick, this year?" A catchy, unforgettable Radio & TV commercial during some of the 1960's era that, I can't ever forget...though, my folks had Ramblers those years till, December of 1969 when they finally went to GM...but a 1970 Olds "Delta 88" coupe...a great car. Arizona beauty is great in the non summer months (and a few extra months to boot, too) Cool Grandma's car. Glad you did that episode for us car buffs, Lou!

Memories....My first car was a 1965 Buick Electra 225...This being a 1966 looks similar, even though it is a Wildcat! Love the Sea Foam Creen color and matching interior. Door insert is beautiful! Interior is beautiufl too. I normally don't care for white interior...but this is really nice. nice dash too! Such smooth ride. Oh brings me back to the day! I drove my Buick to high school!!! Imagine a 17 year old dricing a 1965 Buick Electra 225 to school! Those boys will have a blast with the Wildcat!

Funny Story: Back around 1979, my buddy had one of these exact cars with the 425. He was on a test drive with it, trying to sell it to another one of our friends. My friend told him, "Go ahead...PUNCH IT!!" so our buddy FLOORED IT. The car launched, spun the rear wheels, then TOOK OFF like a ROCKET... Then our friend says in a panic..."The gas pedal is STUCK!!" It was STUCK TO THE FLOOR!!! I was in the passenger seat, so I reached over and pulled it up, and unstuck it from the floor. Our friend who was driving then exclaimed "I WANT THIS CAR!!!" And so he bought it ON THE SPOT!!!. Best wishes to the owners of this gem of a car, I hope it stays in your family for another 58 years!!! Thanks for sharing, and for the memories!!! Best wishes, George B. from the Boston area!!!

My father bought a blue-blue '66 Buick Wildcat after a teenager stole his '63 Chevrolet Impala and drove it into the side of a house. My dad, who will be 91 on Monday, said that when he was at the dealership, the salesman gave him some extras for free: wire wheels, free, and a full tank of premium gasoline! I remember him racing his friend who had a '65 GTO. I can still see that race! Three months later, the Wildcat was stolen and never found.

GM, Ford & Chrysler's best decade of cars and affluent lifestyles. I'm watching reruns of Bewitched on Prime I'm very much enjoying too made in the 1960's. The cars, clothes, houses, furniture, advertising, used on the show, this car is exactly just all that. I grew up all through the 1960's. Good time machine visit Lou.

Hi, Lou! Well, here you've demonstrated that Buick had a cool cat that came along before the Mercury Cougar! Of course, Jaguar has been around long before the Wildcat, but I digress. You know, I've been a numbers guy all my life. In fact, when I was a kid, I actually got a kick out of watching the odometer running on our cars, and it's so awesome that you and the Renshaws (and all the cacti) got to witness a literal MILEstone, break out the party favors and film it for everyone to see! Funny how some of the digits don't completely settle in right away (18:07). Seems to take a few more miles of travel before that happens! LOL! Lou, I think you've outdone yourself with this episode! One of your best yet! 18:56 Thank you, Grandma! Thank you, Anson, Milton and Lloyd! And thank you Lou! Cheers! Now...let's see if you can find a classic that's about to turn 100,000! ILL CYA later!

Not 10,000 miles 😮 just lost half it's value 😂. My parents loved our 67' Buick Skylark GS back in that era. He used to say that was my first brand new car I could afford to buy! He was a Buick Guy. Traded in our old 55' Buick special which was an oil drinker. But by the time 76' rolled around he wasn't happy with the powerplants Buick had to offer. Said the power was a bit to low for the era. I remember actually getting teary eyed with my twin sister when we were trading it in on a 76' Ford LTD 2 door landau. 400/2bbl. We were reminiscing on all the the places we had been with the Buick over the years! And after almost 50 years ago I can say they were really great years looking back. Great video I enjoyed the content. And I could tell the owner was proud to own it ❤

Remarkable car would give anything to get a hold of a low mileage original car one thing with surprise me was they showed a four-door wildcat in the brochure never seen one never dreamed even made it and I footnote for you on the unusual shots on the rock in the middle oflarge bodies of water thinking that they were probably airlifted there. I had a friend that got into photography and those are not actual pictures. They are paintings to where they can simulate different environments.❤

What a unique car to be bought in Alaska! Not what 1 would expect. And 'grandma' checked off all kinds of boxes, including the 3 speed auto and 425! I've seen a couple of these at car shows over the yrs, but they all had Glides in them. Personally, I'd be afraid to drive on those OE tires...At least it'll never rust in AZ! Nice car, great untouched example!

Single exhaust on a Wildcat is really going cheap, considering that lesser GM divisions had duals standard on their top of the line gentleman's full-sized hotrods. Those last Nailheads had Quadrajet carburetors. That was the first and last year for Quadrajet-equipped Nailheads, making one of those intake manifolds extremely expensive and rare

Hi Al_Dente, "Single exhaust on a Wildcat is really going cheap, considering that lesser GM divisions had duals standard on their top of the line gentleman's full-sized hotrods."....at the same time you know it's a survivor because anyone else would have put dual exhaust on this car. Surprisingly still moves good with the single exhaust. Thanks for viewing and sharing what you notice, Lou

Nice car. It has a 401 , not the 425. 401 nailheads were rated at 445 ft lbs of torque. 425 had 465. The number on the air cleaner is the torque rating. That's what Buick did.

Late 1960s GM B Body full sizers are under recognised and that is a shame. The two door hardtops from 1965 to 1968 (and excluding those with a "formal roofline, eugh) from Chevy, Olds, Buick and Pontiac are just about the sleekest looking machines ever, much better looking imho than any Mustang or Camaro/Firebird. We are not really talking sports cars anyway, at least not without *massive* modifications ongoing
