This color educational/promotional film is about how the 1973 Plymouth Fury III is better than a Chevy Impala or a Ford Galaxie 500, both similar body type cars. This was made in 1972 and was intended to educate salesmen as to the car's capabilities.
Titles: Chrysler Motors Corporation (:08-:15). A group of cars drive down the road - 1973 Plymouth Fury III, Chevy Impala, Ford Galaxie 500. The cars drive by the Mission Lakes Country Club, which is located in Riverside County, CA. Three cars park and men and women exit them. All cars are similar. Plymouth has big bumper guards, the other 2 cars do not. Chevy's new bumper seems to project too far forward, close on that bumper. Plymouth's Fury III body is shown. Inside of the Fury III, see the dash panel and gauges. Inside the Impala's all black steering wheel and dash, not appealing. Close on the dash's warning lights (:16-2:06). The guy walks back towards the Plymouth, gets in and puts on his seatbelt. The woman gets into the Ford and buckles in. The man smokes and drives in the Plymouth. The seats of the Plymouth are shown and a woman lowers the armrest. More interior of the Plymouth's front and back seats. A man fills the trunk of the PLymouth with a lot of stuff. Ford's car has smaller trunk space. The guy can't fit everything (2:06-3:41). A man tries breaking into the Plymouth's hood but its security system sets off an alarm and the man flees. Close on blinking car lights. Close on the Plymouth's engine. Ignition switches are shown. Close on a car engine as it runs. Electronic ignition shown up close, from a few angles (3:42-5:11). A Plymouth drives through desert terrain. Diagram of a Plymouth. Ford and Chevy diagram as well. The Plymouth drives fast through the desert. Tires in the sand. Insulation points in the car are shown on a diagram (5:12-6:15). Plymouth cruises fast down a suburban street. Unibody construction is explained in a diagram. Plymouth Fury III, drives on. Goes up a palm tree laden hill and passes the Chevy and the Ford. The driver is a happy man. The Plymouth Fury III drives onward (6:16-7:45). End disclaimer
(7:46-8:00).

    My first car was A 1973 fury, bought it in 1979, for 900$ IIRC. Was pea soup green, ugly as sin but it had what all 16 year old boys would want.....the 440 HP engine with the 727 trans, 3.23 rear gears and the guy I bought it from was a dodge mechanic and said it was ordered as a hi-way patrol car would have been with the heavy duty cooling, charging, suspension and so forth.....The worn valve springs were the rev limiter....5200 and probably a good thing as the car would only do 125mph......Lucky for me as at that age I had no fear......and would wind it out every chance I could. Great thanks to whomever is putting out all of this great periscope film footage......One of the best YT channels IMO....Many thanks.

    Our fleet had 71 fury's, 72 Impalas, and 74 Mercury Montegos. The Fury's had 383 and were fast and good handling but doors sealed poorly and overall noise levels were terrible. AC was weak. I had to turn them into the shop for something at least twice a month. Replaced with a 72 Impala with small block 400, not as fast but handled as well since it had the F41 handling package. Much more refined as far as comfort and noise and far less nickel and dime repairs. Then we got the 74 Montegos. Those were a step up again from the 72 impalas as far as creature comforts and just very nicely finished. Handling was terrible, a real bathtub on the road but for long trips very relaxed and comfortable cruiser. They had the 302 with all the emissions and they were really slugs, couldn't get out of their own way. Had one in Flagstaff AZ in the winter at a hotel with a steep driveway. In the morning with a cold start and all the oil and grease cold and thick it literally could not generate enough power to make it up the driveway. Had to let it idle for a while to make it up the driveway. ANother time I had it on a mountain dirt and rock road. Going slow cuz of the rocks. On an incline the front tire rolled up to an 6 inch boulder and car came to a stop. WIth full power it could not power over the rock. Had to back up and get a run at the rock on the incline to get over it. Passing on the highway was taking your life in your hands. Next (not in this film) was an 80 Fury... that was the best car of that era I ever had, smooth, quiet, powerful, great handling, nicely finished.

    I worked for a Chrysler dealer in those days. I think 1973 was probably their last good year before emissions standards started ruining horsepower and driveability. Big running problems in following years. Almost ruined the auto industry and gave the imports their big boost in the American market.

    @lenisbennett3062

    The imports were better built more reliable and less expensive then came the oil imborgo in 73 many people turned to the smaller and more economical imports and away from the large V8 powered domestic cars in hindsight I believe that the popularity of the imports saved the big 3 by forcing them to greatly improve their cars to be competitive and in the end the American consumer was the winner.

The Impala is still the best selling and most popular of the 3! The Impala is still around for the 2020 Model Year Too! Plymouth Furys/Gran Furys and Ford Galaxies/LTDs are extinct like dinosaurs! I also see more Full-Size Chevrolets at car shows than Full-Size Fords & Full-Size Plymouths Too! I have seen all of the Full-size Chevrolet Caprice (Classic), Impala (SS), Bel Air, Biscayne, and Del Ray of all years at a lot of car shows in Stock and Modified Street Machine Versions, including Low Riders, also including the very popular Impala SS 2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe, 2 Door Convertible, and 4 Door Sport Sedan! JUST LIKE THE OLD SAYING GOES: "BASEBALL, HOT DOGS, APPLE PIE, AND CHEVROLET!" Hands Down, and Case Closed! I love It! 👍✌👌🤘😍❤😎😁❤

    Thank You Marco! I am glad to hear that! I owned a 2006 Chevrolet Impala SS Sport Sedan, the 1st Year that the 5.3 litre (327 cubic inch) V8, returned since IT was last used in Chevrolets back in 1969! The 2006 Impala SS I had owned from 2010-2015 was the 3rd Year for a front wheel drive Impala SS! The First 2 Years for the front wheel drive Impala SS was the 2004 & 2005 Model Years, and those both years It had a Supercharged 3.8 litre (231 cubic inch) V6, which was the same displacement & size of engine like My 2004 Impala LS had without the Supercharger! The last 3 YEARS the Full-Size Chevrolet Cars was last made with a front engine & rear wheel drive was the 1994, 1995, and 1996 Model Years Caprice/Caprice Classic/Impala SS with a Fuel Injected 5.7 litre (350 cubic inch) V8 which was standard in the Impala SS and Optional on the formal Caprice/Caprice Classic for Civilian, Police, & Taxi use! I only have room for one car for myself at home, so I traded my 2006 Impala SS in on a 2015 Camaro 2LS Sport Coupe with the 3.6 Litre (217 cubic inch) V6 which has 323 Horsepower compared with the 5.3 litre V8 in the 2006 Impala SS which had 303 Horsepower! This V6 in My 2015 CAMARO is the same engine Cadillac uses in most of Their new vehicles still today being the 3.6 is a General Motors Corporate Engine used in all Their Divisions including CHEVROLET, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac! I find the 3.6 litre V6 sounds and acts like a V8 in My 2015 Camaro! I have to sometimes open the hood on My Camaro to remind myself that there is a V6 under there and not a V8! My Camaro I still own & drive today has 20 more Horsepower than my last car, the 2006 Impala SS! The V6s have enough power for what I need! Later on, I might buy a Camaro SS with the 6.2 Litre V8 with 425 horsepower!! I test drove A Brand New 2018 Camaro SS with the 6.2 litre V8, 2 years ago this month back in April 2018, and I was Very, Very, Very Impressed! This will be what I will replace my 2015 CAMARO with, if I ever decide to sell IT! I like love the 1971-1976 5th Generation Full-Size Chevrolet Cars The Best! Your 1971 Impala was when the Full-Size Chevrolet Cars grew the Biggest and Largest in History before They were all Down-Sized in the 1977 Model Year! I would love to buy a 1971 Impala Convertible like Yours! The last Year for the Impala Convertible was the next year after yours in 1972! Then the next & last 3 years they were made in 1973, 1974, and 1975, the Convertible model was moved from the Impala series, the 2nd Highest series to the top of the line Caprice Classic series which is one above the Impala series to fancy the Convertible up more and for GM to make more profits off of IT! They were more successful when they did this in sales & in profits! My favorite from this generation is the 1974 & Final 1975 Impala 2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupes! That is my top choice if I ever but a Full-Size Chevy Car from this Generation! 1976 Impala Custom Coupe was the only 2 Door Impala Coupe available this year because the Impala Sport Coupe was discontinued along with the Caprice Classic Convertible for the 1976 Model Year! I would love to see some Photos of your 1971 Impala Convertible Marco and please tell me what V8 Engine you have in It and if It has dual exhausts! My E-mail Address is: davevirag@sympatico.ca so that you can get back to me to show me pictures/photos of your 1971 Impala Convertible! Could you please give me your E-Mail Address too please and then I can send you pictures/photos and information also about Chevys especially on My 2015 Camaro! I live in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada by the way! Thank You Marco for responding back to my blog on KZread and have a good one and talk to you later! Take Care, Happy Easter, God Bless, and All The Best to You and Your Family and Other Friends! I hope we can talk again soon and Thanks Again! Bye For Now! 😎😁🤘👌✌👍

    Mopar engineering was superior... the best suspension, engine, transmission, and third member, all superior to the others. Sad their build quality wasn't as good.

    Mopar could engineer a great car, they just couldn't build one.

    I don't know about the Impala or Galaxie, but we had a 1974 Plymouth Fury III and it was nothing but a huge pile-o-crap. I doubt the 1973 was better...

    Chrysler cheaped out and didn't use a frame. Of course most do that now. Inferior stressed body construction for cost control.

    My observation over the years is that despite all the claims of unibody advantages an old fashioned well designed body on frame does a far superior job of isolating road noise and harshness from the interior.
