These were beautiful cars in their day. I took my driver’s ed training in a 1972 Impala and remember what a nice car it was to drive.

My first car was a 72 Impala. It was 5 years old when I got it. I drove it for 8 years.

My brother had a 1972 Impala Coupé in 1981, when he was working on a farm in Canada. Tease him today that he should have shipped it back home.

I owned a 1972 Caprice coupe with the 454 and loaded with options. One of the best cars I have ever owned, I wish I still had it.

My mother had a '72 Impala coupe that she bought in '76. It was that awful light mist green that was so popular back then, but it was in mint condition, and the 350 under the hood ran like a watch. Sadly, the frame rotted out just 7 years later, and she had to get rid of it. I miss that car

@@theemulsionalchemist5688 Interesting, because the joke amongst our friends in L.A. - when you ask where they all are - is that the Swedes bought them and shipped them home. I don't think the Swedes were the only ones. When a friend if ours needed an motor for a Mopar from the 1950's, he ended up buying it and shipping it back from Norway. 🙂

We had a 72 Caprice Hardtop with the optional 400 ci engine. It was a nice light bluish-green with a darker green vinyl top. We bought it used, in 1978 or so. It was gorgeous, and many people thought it was a Cadillac from the front. It rode like a DREAM. Our neighbors who did have a brand new, downsized, square Deville, readily admitted that our Caprice road much better, and although not as much equipment (leather, power windows, etc) was a nicer and more comfortable car in every respect. And it was much faster, power came from the big block seamlessly and silently, and you really had to watch the speedometer because it was so quiet. My mom got her first speeding ticket for going 71mph in a 55mph zone. I would say the smooth , quiet, ride and power is what people like in a car like Lexus today, but was available for the masses back then. Our friends with the tacky Rust-Orange Cadillac had bought just for the Caddy ornament, but admitted the Chevy was a better car, so many plasticky parts on that generation of Caddy broke, things wore out quickly, it was slow, reliability, and even road presence... our Caprice won. The compliment I remember the most, was my friend (whose dad had the Cadillac) took a road trip with us, and remarked on the highway that is was so quiet and smooth, that it "felt like we were riding in a landspeeder" from the recent Star Wars movies, in which the main character had a car that literally hovered and floated on air. Since that car, we had an 81 LeSabre which was loaded and had vert comfortable seats (but a lame V-6 !!!) , and a 91 Caprice with a 305ci engine which brought back some of the beloved (by some) big rounded styling and seamless V8 power, but none of our cars since QUITE lived up to the ride and luxury of that 72, despite some additional electric doo-dads. Before the 72, we had a 61 Impala hardtop coupe, and my parents always said that was their favorite car. UNTIL we got that glorious 72 Caprice!

great stories, yes, solid cars. Cadillacs customer base was expected to trade it in every year or too, so I guess the designers were not as concerned with quality

@@theemulsionalchemist5688 Yeah, I think GM was still in that mode of relying too much on brand advance. In this case, it was that family's first Cadillac, and never bought another. Their next car was a BEAUTIFUL mid 70's Buick Electra hardtop coupe, with all the electric luxury gizmos their Caddy had (and our Caprice didn't)! But styling more like our Caprice, taken to the next level. They kept both, but the Electra was so huge and comfortable and impressive, side by side the Caddy really didn't look like much. So they normally drove the Buick, and the dad used the Caddy mostly for his business calls. (Because he was expected to have a "new" car to indicate his business was successful).

The light green color was hideous, I dont know how anyone could have walked onto a car lot and purposely bought a ugly light green impala??🤣🤣

@@jimd2101 there were about 6 shades of green to greenish blue, and all were better than orange, yellow, or "rush" coloured. The "sierra" mist I think it was called, was a metallic flake greenish blue, actually, kind of hte colour of your avatar, but not as dark. And the tourquise metallic was really nice. Emerald looks really classy (like Jags). But light, pea green, and yellowish green, not so nice.

My parents took our family and 7 weeks of luggage on a driving vacation of the USA in our 1972 Caprice- I was nine but well remember it was as nice a car to travel in as they say. I later learned to drive in that Chevy. On that trip (1973) I was impressed by the long drive through the Mojave desert, 80 mph, 117° in the shade, and the air conditioning wasn’t even on max! even with a black vinyl hardtop! While the frame eventually rusted out many years later, it outlasted the “competive car” (cough…Ford Ltd… cough 😁) in every way by a healthy margin. I occasionally have a funny dream where I move some boxes & stuff in the garage to discover it’s still there. And starts right up😀

6:38.......................I haven't heard that sound in 37 years, but it's just as I remember it from my friend trying to restart his fuselage Chevy wagon after dropping me off from summer day camp.

I drove a 74 Impala my father bought for $ 400 in 82. The car was a joy to drive! My older brother said it drove like a " giant sports car " I loved that car!

lots of style but those cars were definitely boats. you must have had been a pretty good drive to pull that one off.

I have a 1972 chevy vert and i can say in the year 2022 it drives like a champ 50 years later..

This was my first car at age 16.. a 72 Impala 4 door ....back in 1982.....My aunt gave me the car....I couldn't believe how nice it was ,,,The car had 39,000 original miles and it was in great shape for a 10 year old car....( .It looked 5 years old )...I drove it for 5 years...it had a small accident and suffered body damage but still ran good.....sold it for $300....and the buyer took the motor out to put in a Camaro.....It was a great first car...😀 .

I remember my friends father,who was a cardiologist also knew alot about cars always bought Buicks,Olds or Mercurys.I remember him saying that Cadillacs were not to him a great value compared to an Olds 98,Buick Electa,or Parklanes,or Grand Marquis,and you know what,I have to agree.

Please find the Chevy Impala 1972 Commercial with Indian Chief. It was a really warm commercial.

If I could get this leviathan into my garage, I'd buy one! But the biggest car that fits is a Corvair!

My grandparents bought one new in 71' with the big block 400 4dr hardtop Caprice with the fender skirts then my parents bought from them in about 79' nice car though

The '70 Impala was a better car. The '72 was very flexible. Bigger on the outside, but not really bigger on the inside, As a 13 year old I asked my Dad, why was our smaller '65 Dodge Coronet have as much room in it and why was the slat 6 quieter?
