This nine minute commercial convinced me to go to the Chevrolet dealership today and buy a new 1955 Chevy. They probably sell for about $2,500. I am going to order mine with air conditioning, power steering and power disc brakes, GPS, a rear back up camera, cell phone charging outlets, and a CD player.

My late Dad bought a nearly new 1955 Belair from a neighbor of my Grandmother. That car I remember riding in as a child. It was a two door in coral and gray two-tone. I too wish I had that gem today.

I love the two tone color scheme of coral and gray on the 1955 Chevys. Last year, I saw a nicely restored one at a car show in Daytona Beach, Florida.

My father bought a new Bel-Air wagon in 1955. I have a nice color picture of it when brand new. We kept it 9 years then traded it in on a 64 Pontiac wagon which was also a nice car and our first with power steering. My father looked at the Nomad, but wanted 4 doors.

It was may 1955@ my high school in SC . As I descended the front steps there it was a turquoise/white 55 Bel Air Chevy convertible, just beautiful! 2 students hopped over the top& into the car , cranked the motor & screeched the tires out & away from the parking space.....so cool for this freshmans eyes to observe on a day in May , so long ago!

When I was growing up my parents purchased the next model year, the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. Although the 1956 Chevrolet was the same model generation and basically the same car, Chevrolet did so many external styling changes that the 1956 Chevrolet looked quite different from the 1955 Chevrolet. A lot of external styling changes from one model year to the next is not done anymore with cars in the same model generation.

Safety was included, just not all the features of today. Safety doorlocks was included, stopping the nasty habit of people falling out in turns, safety laminated windshield, high/low beams, avoiding as many head-on collisions due to blinding oncoming traffick, 4 wheel modulated breaking, safety tires, proper suspension, signal lights, defroster and forced ventilation, shock absorbers etc. This all contributed immensely to the overall much higher level of safety than say a model T. But no, no OnStar nor airbags.
