1973 Plymouth Fury - FIRST START in over 40 years? - Carburetor Rebuild - Revival Part 3

In this video, we finally get the Fury running! It's been a long time since this car has fired up, so along with it, are many of the charecteristics of a car that have been sitting this long. It's going to require a full tune-up. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc... We also need to drop the gas tank to clean it and replace the sending unit. There are other things as well. I will cover them in a future video. If you want to see more Fury content, please like, share, and subscribe. Thank you so much for watching!

And THIS is why molar guys say Mopar or No car. They are such beautiful simple machines and so…. American.

Wow, a Thermoquad carburetor, I have 2 of them for a 440, one came off a '73 Dodge Polara Wagon, the other came off a '73 Imperial, I love these Mopar C-body's, I have a '72 Fury 3 with a 400 with a 4 barrel, AFB carburetor on it, 21/2 exhaust with flowmasters to the tail, car sounds very brutal!!! In the process of turnin' the car into an unmarked cop car, cop car wheels and caps!!! Keep up the great work, Mopar or no car!!! Your '73 Fury reminds of my '73 Dodge Polara Police Pursuit, DAMMIT, wish I still had it!!!👍👍

MMO in the eng. oil and the fuel system will likely help this old girl a lot.

What a score guys, glad you got the Fury! Wish I'd have known about that auction! Anyway, I noticed the '73 you got and the '74 you looked at before the auction both appeared to have Texas Dept. of Public Safety inventory stickers on the drivers door jam (I assume you saw those). Those two are "for real" police pkg cars unlike that black & white '59 Coronet that I think was probably a "clone" (my guess anyway). Enjoy your updates on the '73 Fury & good luck with it. I drove many of those early '70s police cars early in my career.

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I loved that white Fury too. Someone in the comments on our first Fury video mentioned that they bought it and will be doing a revival series on it.

The thermoquad on my ‘74 Imperial had the same issue; float level way too low. I fixed that but I ended up using a new edelbrock carb, it’s more reliable. My Imperial sat for years and years as well and I literally had to replace every oil seal and gasket, except the head gaskets. Also, new seals in the steering pump, transmission and rear axle. You name it and it leaked oil, unreal. Keep an eye on that, good luck.

Yes, we need to reseal the transmission and the front seal on the power steering pump. For a car that’s been sitting for around 40 years, I’m pretty impressed.

Yes I am a car guy and I have seen this on other mopar`s. What is the significance of the red (hemi orange) air cleaner assembly? Did it mark a performance (magnum) version of the engine? Or was it added by previous owner? Mopar trivia. Earlier comment said this was a police version of the Fury?

  • @theunskilledmechanic

Yes, it was a fleet car. 140mph certified speedometer. It’s a dual snorkel air cleaner, so I’m gonna say it’s an HP engine? Definitely not added.

Hope you can find an original style muffler (walker #2148) I have a few old mopar cop cars but can’t find the correct mufflers.Turbos too loud for my taste.today’s replacement deals based on a universal platform don’t have the classic sound.
