The Chrysler Newport convertible I remember watching on the TV show MISSION: Impossible. Jim Phelps would drive to the rendezvous point to pick up his tape player and manilla envelope with photos and a synopses of the assignment. Chrysler was the sponsor and corporate tie-in. Also seen in episodes of Mannix.

I picked up a 68 Chrysler 300 hardtop around Christmas time. Been fun working on it, but soon realized getting interior Parts for C Body Mopars is not an easy task! The front seats I had done by a local upholstery shop, and have to say he did a pretty decent job replicating the original pattern. Good luck luck with yours! Good to see the old C body’s getting some love!

Good luck with this big Mopar. How cool that this convertible has the “Sportsgrain” option ($126.55 extra in ‘69) which makes this car a real unicorn. Mercury offered yacht panel in ‘68 while Chrysler had it as an option in ‘68 & ‘69. In the time of the space race things got covered in fake wood grain.

Glad to see you're back. What a great addition to the collection. The fuselage Chryslers are iconic. I am amazed to see a convertible that isn't completely destroyed, that's a rare find these days. Can't wait to see the updates on this fine piece of history. Great video, thank you for sharing.

That car is such a vibe, that is the car that a man who would later have a woody wagon or a Wagoneer would have as a confirmed batchelor. The woody convertible was the car for a guy who would wear L.L. Bean, own Marlin rifles, Ithaca shotguns, had a Chris Craft or a Chrysler boat and an Airstream camper. A guy who would wear a hat like John Candy wore on Uncle Buck. You would use that Chrysler to tow your boat up to the Thousand Islands in the summer and tow your camper up to the Adrondacks for hunting season. You would strap your dead deer or a Christmas tree too the hood and bring it home. You drop the top, lay down a blanket and haul home wood/buildung supplies on the deck lid. It's basically 2wd 3/4t truck running gear (440/727/9.25")with a versatile convertible body. The car for a guy who might have a CJ7, Wagoneer, Ramcharger, Trailduster, Bronco, Scout but, he is wise enough to know that a good set of snow tires and a Suregrip is gonna take him anywhere that is wise to be attempting to take his nice car, he would know that it would be foolish to stray too far from an established road or two track. Very cool, the body looks nice and straight, rust looks minimal, just surface, all the trim is there, looks complete, just needs to be throughly cleaned, cut/buffed, waxed, roof, interior upholstry, all the rubbers, brakes, suspension steering, accessories, fuel system, cooling system. I suspect that it will come back to life pretty well and will have a nice patina'd original state. You're beciming the king of the cool C bodies. What a treat. I am originally from upstate NY, Oswego Co, I'm in Tennessee now but, this a is a great channel you got here, I'm glad I found it.

@@66skate I think that girl was just trying to show how much time was passing, showing that getting it out of the barn and onto the trailer was a lengthy process. She did a great job recording, what would you like her to do? Join in? Then we wouldn't have a video to watch and be "keyboard warriors" on LOL. The jack part could have definitely gone a lot better but also a lot worse. Thankfully nothing went "too" wrong. But, then again there are no handbooks on pulling a car out of a barn that has been sitting for 40 years. You and I probably couldn't have done it better ourselves. Kudos to these kids, it's nice to see kids their age love these old cars, he's saving this car from the junkyard! For me.. that's a win! Nice car dude, can't wait to see more videos.

@@WillowDigroy In the beginning, it sounded like she was complaining and when they asked her if it was OK when going on the trailer, she says ya while it clearly wasn't. My gripe is so many eyes on it and nobody said stop and let it fall off. It would be a shame to have it get damaged after surviving this long. I really like these cars. I have a 69 Imperial LeBaron 2 door. That Newport will be a beauty with some work.

Again, I get there's a bunch of people watching but I think they did a pretty good job all things considered. I don't think it sounds like she was complaining, more like letting us know how much time has passed throughout the video. Think about how they must've had at least an hour plus..of footage to sort through and turn into a 20-minute video.

And now we know when you have a car with brakes rusted solid flat tires. If you own other cars like this your ride with a set of tires on some steelies then call the rollback out he hoisted up you change out the two front tires then he pulls it out with his robot bed far enough then he'll lift up the back end and let you change each rear tire. Then fully loaded up onto the rollback go over to the trailer and angle up the the ramp of the rollback and roll it back onto your trailer with the front end pointed out. Then when you get where you're going use a floor jack on the trailer to lift it up take a wheel off free up one brake caliper by removing it. Put the wheel back on go to the other side Jack it up remove that caliper put the wheel back on. Then use the jacket attempt to free up the rear brakes by spraying lube and getting the drum ready to be hammered off later. Put the wheels back on hook a cable to a tree hook it to the car and then hook up the trailer to the truck and then pull the trailer out from under the car. And then the car is sitting under a tree ready for it 6 months of shade tree mechanic work with a brand new tarp over the roof. Once the rear brakes are freed up then you load it back on the trailer and then unload it inside a building where it can be worked on and the entire top can be removed. Then you order up a roll of that fake wood grain and replace that on the sides, on etsy.com, not eBay. An order up the glossy version of the wood grain and the largest roll they sell. And use a heat gun to remove the old and lacquer thinner to get the glue off and then put it back on like window tint with a squeegee and water. Then load it up after the brake job is done the oil is changed belts are changed interior is cleaned and the new carpet is ordered and send it to the upholstery shop to have the convertible top replaced. And then another 2,000 hours fixing all the odds and ends.

Don’t jack up those cars from the rear frame rails, if it was a full frame car there probably wouldn’t be a problem but they are unibody cars. Those convertibles like to bend so only jack under the control arms and the rear axle.

At near 67 years, I find seeing such relics of my youth to be near painful when i should be full of glee. But when I was your age and money being in short supply a car just 15 years young would be driven only so long until repairs were more than the bank would bare. At that time the heap was off loaded to some friend that had the means to keep it limping or in some cases galloping on for a while longer. One such time when I let go of a 1967 Plymouth Valiant for no more than a couple hundred due to suspension issues I took that $200 and purchased a fine Raleigh 10 speed bicycle. I became a fanatic of the two wheel pedal powered road bike and nary did I care that I was sans a motor vehicle. Friends then whom had running cars were around for jaunts beyond the range of my bicycle but that era, that epoch, was when in my mid to late 20's life was at times difficult but that bicycle never let me down. Fresh air albeit in the saddle of a two wheeler or sitting behind that amazing steering wheel with the open road and top 'gone' the difficulties of life just melt away. Best wishes.🎉 New Subber here, looking forward to future uploads on this classic land yacht❤

I wonder what the history of this car is. Did the owner buy it new? Or family. If not how much and when purchased. There was a day when that car was bought new and people loved it. With a house like that and couldn’t afford a new top. Must have been a kid.

The gentleman I purchased it from bought the car used in around 1980. He drove it up until 1984, when the top started to decay. I assume he was at a different point in his life back then. Financial situations do change over time... Apparently, the original owner was a doctor.

So does it have a 383 or a 440 in it? Being a 1969 it could of had the 440 TNT engine and if you have that it's the hipo engine for the Chrysler lineup of them years my grandfather loved the big C bodies he had a 1970 three hundred and that car was really nice until my uncle was driving it and wrote it off in a accident back in the late 1980's after that he had Newports and New Yorker's. My whole family are Mopar people many worked at Chryslers and all they drove were mopars same as me today but I'm a classic Mopar guy myself the newest I have is a 79 Aspen R/T and a 1978 Dodge Warlock
