    In about 1977 as a teen, I was sick of my 8 track player in my 1971 cuda, I had to stick a book of matches under the tape player, because the music warbled so much I ripped it out an threw it over the bridge while driving, I admit I was drinking and drugging, but 8 tracks were pretty cool when they worked right.lol

    Wow I forgot how small the a-pillars were back then. You get much more visibility. The a-pillars in by 2018 truck could hide a semi.

I've contended that the massive thickness of the newer cars' A-pillars is what contributes to head-on crashes between cars and motorcycles; as many of those crashes happens at intersections where I live. The thick A-pillar can obscure the thinness of the approaching motorcycle.

    But your truck can take a much harder impact and you will survive! The new vehicles are weird and full of electronics I get it, but they are built much, much safer and to assure the driver survives to prevent lawsuits not that they care lol

    As a young man, I burned through some great cars...'65 Chevelle Malibu, 1970 Caprice, 1971 Monte Carlo. Just drove, traded and wore out so many. Shoulda loved them better... (and maybe kept a few)

    The ultimate in sound quality an amfm 8 track with maybe 20 watts total power. However when I was 12 I though the amfm radio in my dad's Monte Carlo sounded darn good. Also the comfortron air was a nice option.

    8 track was a dead end technology. But for it's day, early 60's through the 70's, it was the best available.

    @@christopherconard2831 8 track was handy for the car, about 80 minutes playing time i think, then again a c90 could do more, just slower to find, but smaller overall too, two competing formats, 8 track was not a dealer fit option in the UK as ive ever seen. 20w yep, more than many home systems of course, so we had nothing to compare against, a high end car system was proabaly better than most houses, plus all the speakers, you were surrounded

    When it came to radio reception, at least on AM, the Delco radios were superb! FM radios was a different aspect back then, as multi-pathing created a lot of distortions. From what I've read, the modification of radio transmitters in the 1980s fixed the reception problems with automotive FM radios.

    Cars of this era were great when they were new. It didn’t seem to take long for them to rust and start leaking fluids! It was a rare car that was able to last 100,000 miles and neighbors would brag if they were able to achieve that! These cars relied much more on very strict attention to maintenance, including ignition points, timing and carburetor adjustments, spark plugs, exhaust system/muffler corrosion repairs, and shock absorbers! Oil changes were best done every 3000 miles or sooner, contrary to the recommended 7,500 mile intervals in the owner’s manuals! I knew many people back then who made it a regular routine to trade their cars in every two years to avoid age-related problems with these cars.

    Don’t laugh too hard, Mikey. CD players are no longer available in most of the new Chevrolets. Bluetooth will be replaced eventually. Time marches on.

    I just love a 70 MONTE CARLO AND I USED TO OUTRUN EVERY COP IN THE COUNTY BACK IN THE 70S AND WAS NEVER CAUGHT OUT ON THE ROAD BACK IN THE DAY!!!!

    For those out there that may be puzzled about the term "chassis lubricated" @13:13 in this video; the lubricating talked about is with injecting grease into the joints found on the front suspension and steering links that's connected the the car's chassis. I've done that work on 1960s and '70s era GM vehicles with the use of a _grease gun._ The grease joints could be as few as 5 or as many as 8, depending on the car model.

    Can you tell me if it matter whether the front end is supposed to be jacked up and floating the suspension when you grease, or just sitting down on the tires as normal.

    @@74nova36 The front suspension had to be "floated" or elevated, with the tires off the ground, for grease to be properly injected into the fittings. At service stations, they usually had an air/hydraulic car lift that would raise the entire vehicle, such as what are found at tire shops nowadays, which took the weight off of the tires/wheels. Doing the work at home, at least back in the 1950s into the 60s, a bumper jack was used to raise the front-end of the car; then, if the guy was smart when it came to safety, blocks would be placed under the chassis, and the jack lowered; but the tires/wheels would be elevated off the pavement. That regiment of work was done at least six times a year back in my youth; and when living at home, I did the same for my Mom's car, too; so there was a period in my life when I did that 12 times a year.

    @@bloqk16 I did it when I first purchased this nova a year ago, it pushed out dried lumps of old grease/dirt that were as hard as rock. Sometimes I had to chisel it out before it would allow new grease in. I did it when I jacked the car up with a rolling jack from the front crossmember so the tires were just barely off the ground. Any other tips with this old car would be appreciated. I have videos of me starting it on my channel btw. Thanks!

    PoorManRC OMG I want one especially with a big block 402 four-speed . I think the 1970 Monte Carlo was one of the best looking cars of all time. If you drove a Monte Carlo in 1970 you were considered to be rich. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Chevrolet made some great looking cars in the late 60's thru the early 70's. My first car was a blue 70 Impala coupe with a 400 V8. The thing had a few problems but it was a beauty. I cannot get excited about new cars or trucks. They are overpriced and way too complicated.

    I owned a 1970 Chrysler New Yorker in in 79. The thing was only 9 years old but already worn out. It had rust, it was running on 7 cylinders due to bad rings. I remember it had all kinds of bells and whistles and non worked. The A/c was no longer working. The power windows only partially operated. I think it had an 8 track player in it but I am certain my dad installed that. Those cars were a boat. Horrible gas milage and ran like garbage.

    I think back then everyone was "expected' to trade every 3-4 years, that was the norm. The engines and trans were durable but the bodies and other accessories didn't seem to hold up as well, especially if you lived where winter salt just disintegrated any and every piece of metal on the car!

    @RC Hobbyist Extreme . . . what you told about was typical of Chrysler products back then. I can vividly recall plenty of Dodges and Plymouths of particular model years when they first came out due to their distinctive styling that was eye-appealing. But it seemed that in less than 10 years, all those Dodges and Plymouths disappeared; yet, the Fords and GM vehicles of the same age were still plentiful on-the-roads.

    Grandfather had a double blue 1970 Monte Carlo, got it as soon as they hit dealer lots and was constantly asked questions about it at red lights and parking lots. It got stolen in 1973 and he had a 73 Monte after it.

    Chevrolet had some of the coolest looking interiors. From the dashboards, to the steering wheel, to the controls, to the speedometer--Chevrolets had unique styling and class in the 60s and 70s. If I were going to restore an old Chevy, I would at least keep the interior as factory original as possible, or at least--an aftermarket replica of the original interior

    After seeing this the more I think about it the more I think that 1972 must have been a "Goodyear" to be alive. I must have been born during the wrong era. If only we could go back in time and buy those vehicles brand new.

    I want the option of the gal driving i remember as a kid we never had ac ,my dump truck i bought didnt come with ac but my first pickup i ordered it with ac in 1976 that pickup was loaded with every option it cost me a whopping 4,000. Dollars brand new i think a f250 camper special ranger xlt cost a little bit more nowdays lol

    This film showed a 1972 Monte Carlo with the 1971/1972 Impala wheelcovers...I have never seen that before. It's sales brochure never showed that so it was a last minute cancellation.

    They frequently said "NOT available on Nova and Vega Models".... I'm CERTAIN no Rust Warranty was ever put on a VEGA!

    @@MrHmg55 GM Rust prevention definitely improved by about 1976. I can find reasonably clean Novas TODAY, built after 76!! It was just a couple of years really. 1970-mid 76. And mainly Vega and Nova.... But ESPECIALLY Vega. 😳😖

    Life got more sedentary and convenient from then to now. Little things, such as getting off the chair or sofa to manually change the TV channel or adjust the TV volume had to be done back then. Nowadays, the person can remain seated with the use of the remote control or smartphone for the TV. The variety of snack foods and beverages were not as plentiful back then as they are today. Starbucks didn't exist back then, depriving people of the calorie-fortified lattes that can pile on the body weight.

    Going the other way, I don't think you can even get a "stripped down" car these days. The last closest thing I had was an '09 Aveo. The only thing it had that I didn't want was OnStar. It was unique in that, unlike every other the dealer had, it didn't even have the dummy AC prep package.     We had a '72 Nova and the lap and shoulder belts were separate. I remember we always just did the lap belts, never the shoulder belts. The belts weren't retractable. The shoulder belts were stowed folded on clips above the doors. They were very cumbersome to use, which is why after a couple times we never used them. There was also the whole "coolness" factor, wearing seatbelts then wasn't the cool thing to do or bee seen doing.

    think again! i remember some cars the glove box lid had a couple 1/8 circular indents. all you had to do was leave the glove box door open and never change speed or lanes.

    I recall buying a careful one owner 1 9 7 2 Monte Carlo in 1983, finished in light green just like in the video. It seemed odd to be driving it at this time as it was out of sync with the times. I drove it for a few years, then one day, I was finished with it and called the wreckers to take it away. Got a whopping $100. for it. The body was still solid and the green cloth interior was like new! It didn't have any value at that point. It wasn't too much longer after that, the value of cars from this era began to rise and rise. Too late............ The only things left are memories, guilt and a photo.........

    The '72 Monte Carlo probably still got a lot more attention than, say an '83 Celebrity or Citation. My friends '72 Malibu sure did back then. The Monte Carlo still gets the attention while the Celebrity is long forgotten.

    I turned 16 in 79 and went into the Air Force in 83. I remember prior to going in the Air Force many 2 door cars of this era were available . However after coming out of the Air Force in 87 I noticed that people were now actually hot rodding 4 doors as most of the good 2 doors were gone.

    Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Power Windows! Don't need all those fancy do dads, to many knobs and buttons. Christ sonny, I'm not buying a flipping air plane! I only have $3,500,00 and had to borrow half of that from my wife Myrtle. You young whippersnappers wants all this fancy crap in car...where are you going to draw the line!     LOL!!!!!!! that's exactly what I told the Lincoln dealer 2 months ago when I bought a new Nautilus "Who needs all these damn knobs, buttons, gizmos and levers? I just want a car to put in drive, get to where I going, slap it in Park and shut the damn door" The guy goes "sir, those days are long gone, here's your new Nautilus with the heated steering wheel".... only took me 2 weeks to figure out how to go from Sirius back to the radio! LOL!!!!!!!!!

    The model I'd like to have is the Bel Air of these years they were the only standard size Chevrolet still available. With a 6 cylinder and 3 speed stick. Oops an elderly lady in my hometown some 15 years ago sold a mint 1972 Impala two door hardtop regular roof that was a 6 cylinder 3 speed stick and nothing else it didn't even have a radio. She sad her husband went into the dealership and on the floor they had two identical silver 1972 Chevrolet Impala two door hardtop one semi loaded had radio and A/C other items, and the stripped one. Her husband bought the stripped one because the six and 3 speed stick would get better gas mileage. She sold it for hold on your jaws $2500.00. in 2006-2007. I saw her ad called but already been sold to a man from Winchester Virginia. When I asked her for his name and address told me she didn't think it proper to give his name and address. Then I see this car in Hemmings Classic Car few months later. In an article about original oddball cars with low mileage.

    New cars are 100 times more reliable, it’s not even close. I owned cars from that era and was constantly under the hood. I think nostalgia makes people forgot reality sometimes. Mechanics aside, I haven’t had a car with rust or needed an exhaust in over 20 years. No way that was happening with one of these cars.

    @@tombiondi9969 ........I'm happy for you, but you just wait and see when you start to have problems with the motor or the transmission. I myself drive a car that's 46 years old. 76 Nova with a 3 on a tree. I do all the repairs my self and the car runs like a champ. My wife on the other hand drives a 2018 Ford. Around 6 months ago the headlight went and it cost her 137 bucks to get it replaced. You had to take apart almost all the right side of the car to replace it. I wouldn't touch it. And the mechanic suggested that they be replaced in pairs because it's just a matter of time before the other side went and that means another 137 bucks. I told him no. Oh well, good luck with your car and happy motoring.

    @@tombiondi9969 In the salt belt where I live you don't see the decade old badly rusted and hole ridden cars you saw back in the day. Remember when muffler shops were everywhere? Rusted mufflers and exhaust systems littered the streets back then. Carbs were fussy, always needing adjustment especially the choke. Rainy or wet weather the distributor and wires get wet and the car idles rough and stalls. Points and condenser always needed attention and spark plug changes were frequent. Fuel injection did solve all of that.

    @@tombiondi9969 I mean to be fair, I wasn’t going to do a water pump, thermostat, trans rear seal, valve cover gasket, and fuel pump on my Tundra. New cars really suck to work on, just changing the headlight required me to take my whole grill off the truck

    paul broderick I agree with you Paul. I bought a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro super sport RS-SS package. I installed Cooks long tube headers and Borla exhaust system. Six speed manual transmission. I take that out on the weekends and I feel like Carol Shelby in the movie Ford versus Ferrari. Yes that car puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. As for the rest of cars. You are right . They are no fun anymore. 👍👍. Paul if you have not seen that movie you really need to see Ford versus Ferrari. Look at the trailer here on KZread. It is on pay-per-view now. Let me know what you think when you see it. I rented it on pay-per-view and I watched it four times in two days.
