    1. Confirm it's out of gear. 2. MMO in cylinders. 3. Set up crank and load with cinder blocks for constant pressure. 4. Leave overnight. 5. Free advice is worth every penny!

    You need to get it out of the dirt so you can take the oil pan off. Then you can loosen the bearings (babbit bearings) ever so much to help with freeing the engine. The head needs to come off also. Take the side cover off of the engine to see which valves are stuck. I wouldn't touch anything until you can drag it out of the dirt and spray wash the entire car to see what you have to work with. These engines are pretty much bomb proof, don't give up yet.

    Can you move it into the garage to make it easier to work on?

    I was hoping to get the motor unstuck and know I had something viable to work with. May try moving later in the spring.

    My model a engine was just as stuck. In fact my pulley was broken as well. I ended up taking the connecting rod caps off and driving each cylinder to top dead center with a hammer and a drift. It is now running! I have a few videos on it. It’s a model a powered air compressor

    Thank you, I'll check out your channel and videos, much appreciated. It appears I may haveto do the same as you suggested, as this is not breaking loose...just breaking; ha.

    A pipe wrench and a long pipe over the handle of the pipe wrench to use as a lever. Working it both directions. So you need to keep flipping the pipe wrench over. You can't damage the crank pulley anymore anyway. But pulling the head and freeing up the valves would be a step in the right direction. You have to be careful when tapping them because they will Shear off. Pour some ATF on the Pistons. If you get it free you will obviously need to change the oil anyway. Good luck with your endeavor. P.S. I'm going under the assumption that the block does not have a gaping hole in it.

    Thank you, I agree. And yes, no visable damage to the block, so hoping this may get unstuck.

    Don't be disheartened. That's just part of it. Things break, aggravation sets in. But remember it a freaking model A lucky!!! My dad worked on engines for years. He always said a good engine will stick if it sites. It shows it didn't drink oil!! If it had been wore out you would had already broke it lose. What I do when I work on my projects is. Walk away,breath. And reevaluate the situation. I live in Kentucky. And are weather is about the same. So I know what your going through. But promise its worth it!

    Thank you. We have had a very cold spell here as well as snow recently, so it has curtailed the project for now, however, once better weather sets in, we will work on "recovery efforts" and transport it to the shop and see what we can do. The main goal, ofcourse, is to see if we can get it running. Then, antificpation to see if we can make a moving / operating car. Thank you for your interest.

    Don't beat yourself up on a dime-a-dozen pully. Drag it out of the dirt and to a decent work area. It's probably going to be a nearly complete disassembly to free up all the bits. Look at it this way, if it's broke, you can't break it.

    Thank you. We eventually did get the motor to turn over, as shown in a follow-up video and now, in Part 10, are progressing well with an inspection of the top sde of the engine.

    @@blueshadow9536 Thank you. We are up to 10 videos on this project now and currnelty have the head removed and working on geeting two of the valves free. You can see from the timeline of te videos how long its has been sitting, as I've kept adding more penetraining oil, etc. with the hopes it would do its job. I'm very excitted ot see this progress.

    Looks like you can put a large wrench on the end of the crankshaft and work it. If you don't have one that size try a ford wrench with a cheater pipe.

    I find it hard to believe you base a project on whether or not the motor will run again, do you have any interest in building the car or is it only in the motor

  • @duginvirginia5737

    @duginvirginia5737

    2 жыл бұрын

    I've no interest in rebuilding this car because it is too far gone. My only interest at the present time is to see if it we can get the motor to run. Just simply as a personal challenge. After that is satisfied, I may make something out of this.
