Sometimes there is no way out, so you do the unthinkable. If you cheat, you've already proven you aren't committed. Take it from a man that has vowed to always be honest in relationships. It is extremely rare to find someone that will provide the same morals, but it is possible. Keep the chin up, and remember it is an opportunity for you to improve. Number 5 is probably the most important thing I believe....because something clearly went wrong for them to leave you...decipher the signs that you missed, improve and fix those things so that you don't make those mistakes again when they come back or so that you don't take those mistakes into the next relationship. A breakup is very very very hard, but the only thing you can do is be patient and work on yourself in the meantime...again, you need to be a better person regardless of the outcome. Also giving them space with zero contact, it'll also be an abrupt cut off from you, your attention, and your love...the same way it was abrupt for you!! That most likely will give them the opportunity to realise that it was better off with you..however if they go, they go, and it was never meant to be. I am currently going through the same thing...15 years of memories, children, aligned goals, future plans etc, which came to an abrupt end. It felt like a death had occurred as she left for work one morning as usual, but then just never came back. We are working things out....but the only real advice I can give from my personal experience is...give time and space, and most importantly work on yourself and speak to people who you trust and are close to you...because letting those emotions and thoughts just sit inside you will eat you alive. I hope all that are dealing with a breakup get through the tough times and come out the other side a better person❤

I'm going thru the same thing 17 years 1 kid I raised and the other 3 kids and biologically mine but basically everything u described except for her leaving and never coming back happened but we still live together for the kids sake as coparents we just dnt sleep together or do anything together. she just started to show a lil more emotions and opening up to me more and at the same time I'm excepting whatever she gives me but not making it noticeable that thats what I've been waiting for but I'm also working on myself in the process and makin things happen that I didn't let happen cuz of co- dependency but what you think would happen with the woman your with so independent or likes to have more of the control of how or wants things done that you compromise cuz you love her that you jist give her the control and now I found I had lost my self worth and my drive as a man that I'm takin control of my life and getting it back during this break I'm not ready to let go of 17 years but in the end if it happens it happens and atleast I will be set with everything I need and will be able to move on ok by myself.

Love doesn't just go away, if you were actually in live with the person than they will have a piece of you forever. Especially if it's been a long time. You can't just walk away all easy peezy like people say to do. Don't take her back and get someone else she never loved you. Well I'd beg to differ since we've spent half our lives together and spent the best and worst parts of our lives together and experienced everything for the first time together. Idk maybe I'm just old school and still believe in true love. I know she still loves me but I fucked up bad and now I'm paying for it. I'm bettering myself and plan on getting her back too.

If somebody choses to be a part of your past, let them simply stay a part of your past. Use your time and energy to improve your life in any way possible and just move on. People make decisions and they should face the consequences. Good or bad. Wish them all the happiness in the world and sail away smoothly. There is somebody out there somewhere who will be a part of your future.

thankyou, i really did need that talk after almost going into another one of my modes, but if you really take out all of the emotions out of it (anyone else trying to win they’re ex back) you have to be a new you. a new interest for your ex, and redeem and ascend upon your past mistakes and discipline yourself not to make those mistakes again. eventually your ex may see you as an interest again, be cautious and be chill as friends, if they don’t want you don’t force it but also don’t give up hope.

@@mrtheodaprophet Thank you for asking. It has had it's ups and downs but I am staying focused on what I need to do. I learned how to code and am trying to improve and get work. Also, going to the gym, I think, saved me from sinking into a deep depression. Over all, I am doing okay. Not great but not horrible.

I feel #5 should be #1. After being dumped, I am learning to be true to myself and not worry about what others think or bend myself into someone I am not just to please a woman. #1 (do not be bitter) is a tough one for me. She broke up the day before our anniversary, made like she stopped loving me overnight after 8 years of friendship first and then dating, and then would not tell me why she broke up with me. Ultimately, being bitter was tough but now I am living a better 'me.' Hang in there everyone, you deserve better.

The first 3 months is the crucial and painful period or time. If no communications or contact, you would have naturally healed and moved on. Time heals and after more than 3 months everyone would ve learned to be okay differently and put the past behind.

As a general rule (not applicable in all breakups) the best chance for getting an ex back is to do no contact for a mininum of 6 months or until the dumper initiates contact (whichever comes last). If and when your ex calls or texts take 1 day to decide if and what to reply. Keep conversations light and funny and positive and short. No longer than 10 minutes. Always end conversations first.

Well it's not really about playing a waiting game. If I used no contact as a waiting game then it is unlikely I would have the strength to stick to it for 6 months. The idea is to use that time to focus on your own life, stay busy with hobbies, get emotional support from family and friends, maybe do volunteer work, maybe take an online class, maybe ask for overtime hours at work, maybe start an exercise program, take a road trip and finally try to be open to new dating opportunities. I know none of this is easy. When one starts no contact I think the hardest period is the first 1-2 months. The emotions are still raw. Yes re-evaluate if the reasons your ex left you are something that you think warrants correction.

Perfectly understandable to feel that way. You're in mourning and it will take time. Don't try to rush the process. If you don't mind sharing why did she break up with you? What did she say was the reason if she gave you any? How long were you in the relationship?

How long should no contact be after the break up? Also, should their messages be ignored for that length of time, or only responded to with no initiating text first? Also, what message should be sent to initiate the no contact rule?

First, it is difficult to fall in love again with your ex or whoever, when you fall out of love. Especially, when you're so hurt. I have had some terrible experience, in my marriage that, it seems difficult to notice love again I just feel it doesn't exist.😢
