I felt the same as OP. Dating is a part of life and although 9-year-olds won't date in years it still doesn't hurt to hear something like that. The purpose of school is not just teach you the subject matters but also teach kids lessons in life so they can survive in life. Without better knowing what she said I really don't see anything as terrible about the incident. They may be 9 years old but they are not stupid.

I personally agree with you. For someone who has been studying education for some time now, specifically elementary, I'm dumbfounded at those two about the teachers. Almost outraged actually. I mean I live in Oklahoma but still don't think someone should get fired simply for showing the kids a "magic trick" and discussing a little about your personal life. Especially if the children are just simply curious!

I do agree that firing her was a bit severe, however, I do see why that would be an issue. Talking about dating isn't the problem, if it were used in an example for a lesson about emotional health or somrthing along those lines. On the contrary, detracting from learning time and bringing her personal life to work instead of teaching the children like she was supposed to is a definite problem.

This wasn't recorded. But I once had a college teacher in British Columbia, Canada. Lets just say he didn't even do his job. xD In the middle of classes he'd be like. "Well time for a coffee at Timmy's." Then ditch in the middle of teaching. He also made up stupid rules. Like no good smelling food in class. Yet he was fine to bring in burgers, fries and other meals. Meanwhile me and everyone else were stuck with salads and fruit. I'm fine with that but seriously. He also portended to be sick all day everyday. So everyone was stuck without a teacher. Literally all classmates including myself ditched classes permanently. He was fired after people he was working for learned what he did. Another one was a teacher in my high school classes in British Columbia as well. He was my woodwork teacher. Again like my college teacher he'd ditch classes for coffee. Thing is the teacher needs to turn off the electricity controlling the saws and other power tools. Guess what? He didn't do that. He also left his used plates and garbage all over the place... It was literally like walking into a junk yard. Instead of helping the class he'd be on his computer looking up stuff very unrelated. A bunch of times students also would bring in hacky sacks guess what? They decided it was safe to toss them around during class when people had the saws going... One class the teacher heard a student say. "How powerful is a nail gun?" The teacher then grabbed a nail gun and shot it in class a bunch of times. It shattered glass across the room... I personally went to the front office and had them check up on what was happening through security cameras. That teacher was permanently fired from teaching ever again. Beyond that all other teachers were very good. One she'd let everyone listen to music during cooking class. So long as no swearing or anything 18+ said was involved.

I graduated in 1982, so things were looser. First period, someone would say "SPUDNUT RUN!" A very popular donut shop. The teacher would turn his head for those of us with cars could leave. But, not before placing his order and money. It was a a tradition and we loved it! High school was such a great time! 😍

Hi Matt! As someone who DOES have Tourette Sydrome, I hope you don't mind me explaining something. The act of uncontrolled verbal vulgarity is actually known as Coprolalia, and is only present in about 10% of tourette syndrome patients. it is, however, the most commonly depicted symptom when TS is portrayed in the media, which of course I assume is where you got your misinformation from. Coprolalia is also a rare symptom of other neurological problems, too, so it's not just limited to TS. I know it's hard to remember, but if you could associate TS a little less with Coprolalia that would be really nice. I'm not offended that you chose to represent TS in that way, because I'm aware that there are a lot of people who don't know what TS is actually like. Yeah. TS has kind of been made into a giant joke by the media in general. I know Matt means nothing bad by it, but while there are people who have it and can make light of it, there are still others with the condition who see jokes about it and go "hey man that's not cool." I'm personally a little tired of it being considered a giant joke. my entire left side is in pain every day because I have physical tics that are so excessive that they actually do a lot of damage. people with Coprolalia are often really embarrassed by being unable to control what they say. TS is a really frustrating and often times painful thing to have, so you'll have to excuse me if I don't find the fact that it is a huge joke all that funny. he probably won't read the comments anyway, so I can't imagine my information actually did any good. :/ I tried, though.

One day she entered the room to hear several students using profanity. She told them that she doubted the 11 year olds could even spell the words, much less knew what they meant (and this being the 1970s, she was likely right in most cases). Except that isn't the reason he was fired. Matt obviously didn't research the story properly or he would know the sub was fired for multiple complaints of not following lesson plans, inappropriate language, leaving a student in charge of class while he left for long periods of time, and letting children wander and do what they wanted. He made up the magic trick story to play the victim.

The guy that wrestled a shark actually was on official medical leave for stress (he was a teacher, so an extremely stressful job). After being fired he presented a claim and won the case, alongside a HUGE sum of money. So all is well what ends well.

"If he was well enough to wrestle a shark, he would be okay to stay at work." Good luck trying to justify the firing to his union rep with THAT in writing lol.

Someone got fired in my work for defending himself from this abusive boss at my work. HR sucked ass they didn't shit so for revenge he went up to the boss and literary KO'D him in front of the HR office and said "I quit" and also he went outside to look for his car and flattened all the tires. They called Cops and asked him why he did it? and he responded "So are you arresting me for defending myself?" so then he went to court with the Boss. And the employee won almost 1million for the case that he had won. I guess violence is the answer but i mean the boss did verbal abused him over the years. I guess thats how you treat an Abusive Boss.

So while the teachers are confusing as to why they got fired, the big head scratcher is number 9 with the guy saving the shark. He's on vacation, you don't have to be feeling ill to take a vacation, and even if you are I'll starting vacation, you can get better.
