The bean tunnel is going to be so cool!! The grassy lawn is coming along nicely as well! 💚😊 I also know it’s too late, but I hope the roof of the barn doesn’t sag over time because there’s no double top plate that the trusses are sitting on. Otherwise, you did brilliant with the bird mouths and the construction of the trusses, and the kids were so adorable when helping with the concrete posts. Kayla, again, you’re a legend because concrete work is NOT EASY! 😅❤️

You should ask the Newbys for some of their bamboo for your bean arches as those sticks don’t look strong enough. I love fresh beans. Another good vegetable to plant is snow peas. I love to put them in a salad raw, they’re so delicious. They are also great in stir fry as well. 😊

Hello Debbie 👋 how are you doing today?

Love the bean arch! You might need to put sturdier cross supports and maybe something along the top somehow to accommodate the weight. I am in 6a and my climbing beans go crazy and all accumulate over the top of my cattle panel arches. Having sturdy support will also help when picking time comes about (whether fresh or dried) as some of the beans need a good yank. Maybe you can get hold of some dried bamboo? Best of luck all the same. Kids love the arch when it goes wild.

I would line up the trusses with the poles. Then rely on standing purlins to provide the spanning strength between trusses. Block your purlins atop the trusses and once mid span - assuming your not using a tile roof 😊 I like your deep roof overhangs. Good place to stack wood or anything you want to keep out of the weather. Extend your purlins over the front door or add one more open bay with roof as well. Additional covered area will be very useful. 😊 Your veg patch seems to have beautiful rich soil. How fortunate

Before you nail all the trusses in place, get them all up top and scooted to one end. Then lift them one by one and slide into place and then secure. That way you have the room to rotate the peaks upward. Mr. Chickadee style.

the twigs for the bean arch aren't sturdy enough to carry the weight of the plants. you'll need a firm either metal arch or bamboo sticks for the plants to be able to climb. best change the construction now before it has grown all tangled and difficult to fix without damages to the plant when it falls down
@THESCOTTERS
Жыл бұрын
Ahh ok I did wounded if they would be strong enough! Thank you for the tips ☺️

I'm really enjoying your channel so far! I wonder, could you tell us why you chose to use tires to create the footers of your barn? Wouldn't it have been better to dig out footers in the earth, to keep the posts firm and straight, and cemented them in there? What were the benefits of using the tires for you, if you wouldn't mind explaining?
@THESCOTTERS
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much that’s so great to hear! And thank you for your comment! We chose this method as we are trying to be a zero impact to our land as possible and didn’t want to put any cement in the ground, it’s a new method of building for us so it’s been an interesting and exciting project ☺️

Here's a ittle fideo that will help you "spring an arch" with saplings. These folks only made two arches - but you can string together as many as you like. It's a wonderful idea. Wish I was there to help ❤ kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6ebuKWsZc6rptY.html You would be well served to locate some plan brown cardboard that you can lay down on the grasses where you want to plant. The layer of cardbord will keep the vegetation at by until you are ready to cultivate. Then you can cut it into pieces to cover your pathways between beds. A few rocks or soil sprinkled about will hold the cardboard in place. When it's past usefulness, let it compost into the soil or chuck it into the compost pile.
@THESCOTTERS
Жыл бұрын
Ohh what a great idea I will definitely check out the video thank you! Steve that’s such a great idea about the cardboard I will definitely do that! The veggies are growing well but so are the weeds 😆 so that would really help! Thank you again ☺️
@stevejohnstonbaugh9171
Жыл бұрын
@@THESCOTTERS You bet. It's a great way to upcycle plain old kraft paper cardboard. Keeping up with weeding is my personal nightmare 😄 I'm a lazy old gardener. Structures made with saplings are quite a thing. What can be created is truly amazing. And the look is SO organic. Natural jute twine, spring saplings that are just starting to bud and a pruning saw and hand pruners are all the tools you need 😊

How wonderful to see how much the children enjoyed working together to fill the tires. Wilfred is going to catch up with his dad soon on skills and strength! I love Betsy’s bean arch idea! I can’t wait to see it fully grown in. This is truly becoming a home built by the whole family and creating everlasting memories. ❤ Happy Easter.

Mr. Chickadee style.

the twigs for the bean arch aren't sturdy enough to carry the weight of the plants. you'll need a firm either metal arch or bamboo sticks for the plants to be able to climb. best change the construction now before it has grown all tangled and difficult to fix without damages to the plant when it falls down
@THESCOTTERS

@THESCOTTERS
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much that’s so great to hear! And thank you for your comment! We chose this method as we are trying to be a zero impact to our land as possible and didn’t want to put any cement in the ground, it’s a new method of building for us so it’s been an interesting and exciting project ☺️

Oh that’s a good idea, I haven’t seen any but will have a look! ☺️
@THESCOTTERS
Жыл бұрын
Ohh what a great idea I will definitely check out the video thank you! Steve that’s such a great idea about the cardboard I will definitely do that! The veggies are growing well but so are the weeds 😆 so that would really help! Thank you again ☺️
