The loo looks cute! For a lock/door handle, you could put a knotted rope loop through the door; when it's pulled in (I'm thinking knot on the outside), the loop could be hooked around a twig or something to hold the door closed; when the knot's tight, someone's inside. The cobblestone road looks amazing! It will hold up so much better than a concrete slab would - it's more work, but more durable, easier to repair, and more "grippy".

Lovely video. Your best yet. The new road is amazing - and don't miss the filmed bit where the guy is hacking at the ground bedding sand with his hammer in one hand, while turning a cobble stone in his other hand to choose the flattest side of the cube to face upwards. Such a skill. It's also great that you didn't choose Tarmac or concrete. The new toilet is perfect, and quite beautiful - but I'd be lowering the waste bucket on the longer gantry and with a 1:2 or 1:4 pulley/hoist system, rather than a 1:1 as shown. That will reduce the chance of accidents, and slow the lowering speed so that one person can do it. You could also use the same hoist to lift compost - or anything else - back uphill again. I'd fit a cleat up top, on the gantry tree. I think we're referencing Heath Robinson here. Or is it Baden-Powell? Composting human poo is no problem as long as you don't attract unwanted animals to the compost bin. The key to all composting is to get the mix of stuff right, with leaves, twigs, paper, and weeds, mixing green with brown, and to turn over the pile occasionally. Just another thought: The barn is looking great and the toilet section unintentionally acts as a diagonal brace on that side wall. I'd want to clad a couple of sections on the opposite side of the barn, and maybe the back wall at the rear, and that's because you have the roof weight acting on relatively small supporting posts, which at present aren't braced front to back with any diagonals except the short ones at the gutter level. I'm just thinking that, over time, you'll store timber and stuff in the barn rafters and that will add to the roof weight, and then a winter storm would stress the barn sideways or lengthways, and there's not much diagonal bracing. Obviously your tree posts sit in tyres with concrete, but are not set in the ground with any foundations, so they take the compressional load of the roof weight, but not any sideways stress on the barn walls from wind etc. Just an unasked-for comment for you to think about. Best wishes from the south coast of England, and from an allotment so dry, with the lack of rain here.

Maybe put the window up with hinges at the top with some stick or way to prop it out, but that way if it’s raining, you can still be protected from the rain! 🌧️ ❤ The road looks brilliant!!! 😱❤❤❤

I was so impressed with the stonework in Portugal. Things like stone window sills being standard, and the extensive cobbled pathways still being constructed. Here in Australia, the labour cost would be completely prohibitive. Glad to see not everywhere else has such unfair Trade costs.

I love the painting and the reading material. Also adore the driveway.

You can use ash to cover your #2 to keep the smell down. Family members did that in their outhouses in the 1950’s in South Korea. Works quite well in case you get low on saw dust. Different strokes for different folks. Carry on! Crack on!

Oh you are having calçada driveway done I wish I had only for cheapness I just had sandstone/cement mix and regret it as the dogs are digging in it and the mess that is brought into the car and the villa is dreadful and the dust on the furniture, once it rains i5 will compact and solidify the sandstone and the calçada will look lovely . I loved your waterfalls and that pool. Your children are sounding pretty good with their Portuguese.

I remember visiting a smaller town in Mexico when I was a youngster. They would dig very deep holes and set their outhouse on top. Once it was full they’d dig up another and do it all over again. It was a little weird since there wasn’t anything to flush but if the hole isn’t deep, there’s definitely a smell. 😂

The only thing I see missing from the outside toilet is a latch on the inside, or something that lets everyone know there is someone in the toilet and doesnt open the door while you are busy, so that could be a problem at some time waiting to happen.

The dry toilet is wonderful, but what happens when you need to empty the bucket and there's only one of you? Personally I would have made it just a bit easier and put one or two 4" pictures pipes attached to flow directly above the compost and let gravity take it down. You can always use a flush piece that slides in the picture and you pull it open and down it goes. (Also keeps bugs from flying up the pipe). Just my preference of course. I figure the less work , leaves more play time. Lol

Olá meus queridos amigos fico radiante quando aparece esta familia tao simpática desde os pais às crianças que sao amorosas. Gostei muito da estrada de paralelos ficou muito boa. Tambem gostei do wc antigamente era assim tinha uma casinha em cima e outra em baixo a de baixo tinha muita palha daí faziam estrume que é compostagem português do Brasil nós dizemos estrume. A paisagem é maravilhosa está tudo tao verde e foi bom chover. Gostei muito de ver as meninas a fazer piza ainda por cima em forno de lenha ficam deliciosas. Muito obrígado o vidio excelente adoro. Rather than a single strand, a two or three-stranded pulley would be slower but much more efficient and controlled

Thank you so much! Ahh no sadly not ours it’s the land below (which has been abandoned) and it’s the little drying barn which they used for drying corn etc I dream of buying it one day and turning it in to a reading room or little den 💭 ☺️
