Great review, Shawn. And very relevant too! I agree the Postmil Christian Nationalism of Wilson etc. is the more serious issue.
This was a helpful review. My own take of what's missing in the debate is the relevance of the natural law. The NL allows us to be Christian in government without the government directing or even imposing Christianity.
That's a good point.
@@RevReads Thanks. It's just on my mind because of my wife's studies in constitutional law. She works at a firm that deals with the intersection of faith and law daily, given that they are dedicated to first amendment and religious freedom issues. She's been trained in a natural law approach, which I've encouraged due to my own work in healthcare. But take the natural law away and you're left with the idea that humans just can't be good without God. Atheism, or really any form of non-Christian religious belief, entails immorality and injustice. Our Calvinist friends especially like that line of thought given their understanding of total depravity. But then you can't possibly have any sort of justice in government without it being grounded in a religious argument, which naturally gives way to the political Christian nationalism you describe and sows the seeds for the religious Christian nationalism we're seeing more and more of.
Unrelated, apparently I switched to another gmail account and replied to my own comment. So now the sneaky people out there can track the connection between Gulfside and this account, lol! 😀
4:15 no, it's not equally used. Black churches have a long history of inviting Democrat politicians to stump, while the white churches shy away from it for fear of losing their tax-exempt status.
I am trying to be conciliator to the other view point.
Well explained
thank you
Excellent interaction with the arguments and defense of the FG gospel, Shawn! Thanks much. 🙂
I think in the end, his flaw is that he places too much weight on a couple of uses of faith (I think it was in Maccabees?) and that colors every instance of faith from there out. It is simply a poor understanding of word meaning functions.
Just my opinion Good Translations NASB2020 NIV NIV84 NRSVue NRSV89 NET KJV NASB95 Decent Translation NLT CSB Meh Translations ESV Bad Translations NKJV
Good review. My book is on the way
Just out curiosity, how much did you pay?
@@RevReads I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 Mine was £80
Would like your review of Horst’s “Morality, not mortality”.
Who is Horst?
@@RevReads William Horst is adjunct instructor at Fuller Theological Seminary and Azusa Pacific University.
Did you read this?
@@RevReads no, I watched an interview with him on KZread and I think the argument is fascinating. He says that “death” mentioned in Romans 5 is moral death and not physical death at all.
Did he say what he meant by "moral death"?
Fiction
😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Book Recommendation: “Long Before Luther” by Nathan Busenitz
What's it about?
@@RevReads Contemporary evangelicals often struggle to answer that question. As a result, many Roman Catholics are quick to allege that the Reformation understanding of the gospel simply did not exist before the 1500s. They assert that key Reformation doctrines, like sola fide, were nonexistent in the first fifteen centuries of church history. Rather, they were invented by Martin Luther, John Calvin, and others. That is a serious charge, and one that evangelicals must be ready to answer. If an evangelical understanding of the gospel is only 500 years old, we are in major trouble. However, if it can be demonstrated that Reformers were not inventing something new, but instead were recovering something old, then key tenets of the Protestant faith are greatly affirmed. Hence, the need for this book.
Im glad i got a few copies of the HCSB!
That's awesome, cherish those!
@@RevReads yes ! I do.
I definitely haven't read as much Darby as Gribben has, but I've read a decent amount. I think I'd label him the grandfather of dispensationalism, in the same way that Luther might be the grandfather of reformed/covenant theology
even with Darby's very different view of the Dispensations?
@RevReads yeah, I'd say so. Luther is pretty far removed from CT and Calvinism as far as his theology goes, but I think it's fair to say that it's his theology and views that paved the way for that (even though Calvin and Knox were contemporaries). Much like how Moody and Scofield were influenced by Darby
It's one of the most useful books I have read in years. With the Yellow Shepard Hermas seems to be speaking against an early form of the prosperity gospel that was popular in Rome.
I will stick with the 1995 Version along with my NKJV and recently CSB. I agree with the statement on Yahweh and hesed.
That's a nice trio of Bibles, those might be my 3 favorite English translations.
Good book for backround ?
Much more in depth than background info, but that is there too.
I get the idea behind majority wins, but the majority is the majority because it was copied more than manuscripts that were uncovered later. So if there is a manuscript error in the majority then that error has been copied many times over, reinforcing that error. That said, I love the NKJV. I love the ESV and the CSB and the NIV and even the KJV. I agree most all translations are great. Read the TR and the CT NT bibles and look for places that stick out. If you find one, read it in many translations and find out why it’s different. You’ll learn a lot that way.
The Divine Name King James Bible (DNKJB) is a version of the King James Bible that restores the divine name Jehovah in 6,972 places123. It is based on the 1769 edition of the Authorized King James Bible and claims to glorify God and honor the work of Jesus Christ3. The divine name is derived from the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, YHWH, which is of uncertain pronunciation2
THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION IS NOT A PEVERSION ..YOUR IGNORANT TO EVEN YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING AND OBVIOUSLY HAVENT STUDIED THE BIBLE FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END.. YOU SAY YOUR A PASTOR YET ALL THE BIBLES YOU QUOTED SAY THAT MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL LOL THATS SO DUMB.. NO MONEY IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN.. DO YOUR RESEARCH .. AND THE BIBLES YOU QUOTED SAY THAT GOD REPENTED IN EXODUS 32:14 THATS RIDICULOUS.. !!!!! STUDY YOUR BIBLE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT AND YOUR CHURCH WOULD BE THE LAST I WOULD EVER GO TO AFTER LISTENING TO YOU ENDORSE BIBLES THAT ARE FULL OF LIES ...
SOCIALIST POLICIES have lifted people out of poverty, left to capitalism alone poverty would now be so chronic that revolutions would be the result.
Lmao.
I am a huge reader
You're my kind of person!
Here is how it is Christianity is already at degradation of the real spirituality Bad once your a Christian you can be in Rain to become a socialistic communist therefore it is not Marx against Christianity but rather against humanity
The message is not a Bible it's a paraphrase, Peterson just put it in his own words. The problem is, it's an occultic perversion.
I learn so much from your reviews and biblical insights! Thank you for sharing how to approach scripture in the most biblical way!
I have views for Humanity and Holy Spirit on the channel. I plan to read the next volume when it releases. The volume on salvation is written by a Calvinist and I'm skipping it for now.
I see this is a six volume series (one is forthcoming); have you read the other four?
What’s interesting I’ve started reading the Bible at the start of this year and I only had a KJV version that my godmother gave me when I was younger and part of the LDS church (long since departed and currently go to a baptist church) When I started going back to church for the first few times my biggest complaint was that I couldn’t really understand or soak in the word of the lord. Then one Thursday (first time going to a men’s discipleship meeting) my pastor walked up to me and gave me a HCSB and it’s been such a blessing to be able to read and actually understand the words of God
Nerowolf, I have read the kjb preface like food , the thick palpable clouds of darkness is catholic rule that the Queen was opposed to , there is no bondage at all in the king James bible in fact it set America free from catholic rule that we have fallen in bondage to because America has left the King James Bible. Incase you did not know , the man of sin mentioned in the preface is the catholic pope .Ye sir do not understand what you are reading , the popish persons (catholic) did all they could to stop the kjb from being translated and got those fake books put in . And accused the kjb translators of not being worthy instruments, so not true what ye say and the catholics accused king James of being a sadomite , so not true , they best look at themselves in all aspect of there accusations. All modern versions are from alexandrian Egypt corrupted text by the catholic church
Excellent reminder!
Great video! This is going to be a good read. I have two questions: #1 - what are the books on Galatians you have on your top shelf? and #2 - Have you done a review of Eric Metaxas’ book, “Letter to the American Church”? Thanks for your content!
1. I have the commentaries on Galatians by Martin Luther, FF Bruce, Leon Morris, Philip Ryken, CH Lenski, Hendriksen, and Calvin. 2. Here is my review of Metaxas' Letter to the American Church. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qo53pa6Qm7SThdY.html

Marget Sanger the top promoter of abortion during woodrow wilson as potus, she was racist as was wilson too she made sure abortion clinics were put in the poorest of minority neighborhoods.
Anti-semite? Yup Rascist? Absolutely Satanist? Apparently For good measure let's throw in the fact that he was a horrible father.
Loved this review, about to read
Amen
Jesus made some very demanding claims on those who would follow him, maybe Jesus did not understand the gospel.
I think you are going to have to throw out all of the Puritans also, which seems to be a trend in Reformed circles these days. I hate what seminary does to a guy.
The Puritans are a mixed bag and a lot of what they wrote should be thrown out.
I love your channel Rev. Well, apart from the fact that I end up buying even more books than usual! It's brilliant that you cover these topics - especially Dispensationalism - an area sadly neglected and maligned here in England. May God bless you and yours, and thank you again.
Thank you for the kind words. I feel you on the neglect comment. That's why I started the channel, it seemed like there was a hole where we needed good content to fill.
@@RevReads In truth, I have nobody here in my city who tolerates these teachings. The churches are dead here and focus on modern social teaching and politics... Either that or hardcore Calvinist denominations I just can't go along with! I'm churchless, so your distant communications are food to me, my friend. I hunger for Christian company. God bless you, Shawn.
I’ve struggled a lot with feeling on the fence between Calvinistic allure and basically any other way of interpreting the Bible. Thank you so much for reviewing this.
This is my top 3 buy list now. Thank you for your great reviews. Your channel is very helpful. I really have wondered about this topic a lot and you have me sold. I am very thankful for you and your work.
This is going on my buy list, thanks Rev!!
I like that it doesn't use the word gentile even once but instead has nations most of the time. Apparently the reviewers have missed that. The YHWH thing is good too.
You guys really need Jesus if you think CRT is satanist
CRT is the very definition of systematic racism.
OK I'll bite. How would having Christ change the idea that CRT is satanist?
CRT judges people based entirely on their ethnicity as opposed to their actions, that's the definition not only of racism but more importantly, unrighteous judgement.
CRT is very clearly a Mark of the Beast. And your gaslighting game sucks. Enjoy your 30 pieces of silver.
CRT is a Mark of the Beast.
Make a lot of sense, his own father said he was control by demons
To be fair, Karl's dad was using an archaic form derived from the Greek _"daemon,"_ which meant a spirit more generally, in this case as an animating/driving spirit. If anything, the letter where he used that term alluded to both heavenly and infernal "daemons," with the expressed concern that Karl appeared to be animated by the latter. Ultimately, whether he meant it figuratively or literally, both seemed applicable to Karl.
@@Xbalanque84 I understand what you are saying and yes, he might meant it figuratively but it does not matter at the end, what matters are the consecuences of Marxisist doctrines (socialism, comunism, Bolchevism) around the world and all over the history of human kind, they are "demonic" and I can't really find a better word to describe them, take that word figuratively or literally as you please.
@@Xbalanque84You may replace daemon with natural instinct/drive and you are already on solid ground both in religion and psychology . And in functional Physics .

The NKJV also gets it done for me. I also use the KJV from time to time but since I don't speak Elizabethan english I mostly use more modern english translations. I also hold a Byzantine text priority position for the New Testament and for this I use the NKJV. And although it's based on the T.R. the T.R. is about 99% similar to the Byzantine Text. However, for the Old Testament I use both the NKJV and ESV. I believe the Masoretic text has some errors that the Masoretes made intentionally, mostly trying to deny that Jesus was the Messiah which we know they denied. The geneaologies are different among other things. For this I like to contrast the Masoretic Hebrew with the Greek from the LXX and taking into account the discoverings at Qumran in the Dead Sea. Alsl compare Deuteronomy 32:8 between NKJV and the ESV. I prefer the ESV reading. If you wonder why i prefer it consult the work of the late Dr. Heiser and his thesis on the Divine Council. Being spanish I mostly read the Bible in Spanish and occasionally in Italia and there too I prefer Byzantine oriented texts. Reina-Valera SBT and other various Reina-Valera's in Spanish and thr Giovanni Diodati translation in Italian. P.S. I'm still studying biblical greek.

Amen brother.
Wow that really lines up with what Jesus said we would be known as well. Nice insight there!
I like the MEV. I got one as a creative journaling bible & didn't realize it was that translation. The issue now is they're getting hard to find so I'm guessing they're no longer printing them.
