It depends on what kind of noise is bothering you. If it's airborne noise (loud music, shouting, etc.), you can apply SONOpan and drywall to your ceiling. If it's more of an impact kind of noise ( footsteps, dropped objects, or mechanical vibrations), you should consider SONOpan, resilient channel, and drywall. Hello @user-fd4pm6mr6f and thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, SONOpan on your ceiling could help muffle the sounds coming from the neighbors' floor above, but will not eliminate the case. To do that, you should look into remedies, such as further screwing down the main floor to reduce the movement and rubbing, which often causes the creaking. Hope this helps.

It's simple. You put a layer of r20 insulation. You put sonopan over that. You then lay some channeling. You then put 5/8th drywall up. Done. Rather than whine about it, think about it. Now obviously this is a terrible video for actual testing. Because it's just some sonopan panels put together. It's not going to be completely sound proof that would be foolish. But done correctly, in the manner I stated, it pretty much makes the upstairs apartment appear to be in another dimension, because I hear nothing now. I also put sonopanx on then a laminate floor upstairs to deaden footsteps. So, as someone who actually uses the stuff, I can say with absolute certainty, it works as it should, when used correctly.
