    It depends on what kind of noise is bothering you. If it's airborne noise (loud music, shouting, etc.), you can apply SONOpan and drywall to your ceiling. If it's more of an impact kind of noise ( footsteps, dropped objects, or mechanical vibrations), you should consider SONOpan, resilient channel, and drywall. For more info on how to install SONOpan on a concrete wall/ceiling visit sonopan.com. For more in-depth info on your particular case, email us at [email protected]

    At 4:53, you're right, SONOpan is between 2 layers of drywalls. This is a frame taken from an installation video on our website and it's showing a different assembly from the one that has been used for the experiment in this video. At 1:02, SONOpan is applied right on the joists, then the resilient channel and then drywall, which is the assembly tested in this video.

    Hi there, it should be fine if it's just under a putting green. It's not durable enough for hitting off of it, but putting should be fine. SONOpanX can compress if heavy objects are placed on it. 1/4 ply could be placed overtop for protection while maintaining performance for impact sound. Please, give us a call or send us an email at info @sonopan.com to discuss further.

  • @sonopan_msl
    @sonopan_msl7 ай бұрын

    Hello @user-fd4pm6mr6f and thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, SONOpan on your ceiling could help muffle the sounds coming from the neighbors' floor above, but will not eliminate the case. To do that, you should look into remedies, such as further screwing down the main floor to reduce the movement and rubbing, which often causes the creaking. Hope this helps.

  • @sonopan_msl

    SONOpan could be installed on a door (it would still need not to be left exposed), but we usually recommend a double solid-core door assembly with weatherstripping for soundproofing, instead. SONOpan is designed for walls and ceilings.

  • @sonopan_msl

    SONOpan creates a solid barrier to stop and absorb noise, whereas MLV adds mass. These are 2 different elements of soundproofing and do different things. SONOpanX is better at absorbing impact sounds like footsteps. For more info, visit sonopan.com.

  • @phil1985
    @phil19855 ай бұрын

    MLV is best for aerial sound , Sonopan is best for impact noise, combined together you probably have a very good solution. In Europe they have similar product: but sandwiche between MLV, supposedly it is a a excellent solution for flooring.

    I wish people would quit saying sound proofing. I also hear it all the time in audio room treatment. 30Hz can travel through 6' of concrete. How are you going to stop that? The better thing to say is sound attenuation.

  • @sonopan_msl

    Very true. But since the majority of people call it soundproofing, this is what we call it as well.

    Very scientific study.... lol when will you actually post testing data ? This works on mid range, does nothing for the low end. Recording studios and theaters will continue the tried and true methods with room within rooms and mass.

  • @DarthMajora
    @DarthMajora8 ай бұрын

    It's simple. You put a layer of r20 insulation. You put sonopan over that. You then lay some channeling. You then put 5/8th drywall up. Done. Rather than whine about it, think about it. Now obviously this is a terrible video for actual testing. Because it's just some sonopan panels put together. It's not going to be completely sound proof that would be foolish. But done correctly, in the manner I stated, it pretty much makes the upstairs apartment appear to be in another dimension, because I hear nothing now. I also put sonopanx on then a laminate floor upstairs to deaden footsteps. So, as someone who actually uses the stuff, I can say with absolute certainty, it works as it should, when used correctly.

  • @chriscarr1791
    @chriscarr17918 ай бұрын

    @@DarthMajora I have also used it, in homes, and as I said it cuts mid range. Nothing for low end. The only "foolish" thing is them slanging it out there for "soundproofing". Sure cutting down on the noise between living spaces OK because talking voices land in midrange freq, which sonopan works for. Building recording studios your steps do not work and thats the exact kind of info that gets put out that gets people in trouble when they have a project needing alot more isolation than blocking out their wife in the bathroom. Professional recording studios are always built with the full room within a room design for proper decoupling, resilient channel or staggered stud walls dont get you there for that level of isolation. Even the mass alone compared to 1 sheet of type X sheetrock, is 1/3 the mass of it. I feel bad when I see people attempt to build a studio based on this kind of thing and after all that it doesnt even come close to the isolation needed for a productive studio. Its sad to see people interpret requests for test data as whining and saying it needs to be thought about. The whole point of needing test data is for the thinking part; any professional studio build needs to do mass and isolation calculations for each room before you even touch a hammer, you cant calculate that without the data...

  • @sonopan_msl

  • @chriscarr1791

    @sonopan_msl standard wall assembly suggestions is not lab data 😆 Different materials have been tested and we'll documented for their sound control properties Sonopan does not publish that... Which is why it has not become an industry standard for studio builds, maybe to block out bathroom sounds okay lol but pretending it addresses serious isolation needs is funny
