Great video. Did the homeowner decide not to use resilient channels? Heavy vibrations from big trucks and trains may travel through the studs causing the drywall to vibrate; acting like a speaker. The addition channels decouple this effect I am lead to believe. No?

They did not in this case though they could have added to the soundproofing.

Would you recommend to install 1) resilient channels + sonopan + massload vinyl + drywall 2) resilient channels + sonopan + drywall 3) sonopan + drywall I live next to a bar with loud industrial fans and blow heavy bass during the weekends

I would love to see a graph of SONOpan's frequency absorption. Does it exist?

doubtfull, most of these soundproofing products are like snake oil, lots of big claims, and nothing to back it up'

it does not, they will not provide it which is why it is not accepting in the recording studio build world. Its all just marketing channels that promo it.

Not as well as a sheet of 5/8 fire x drywall. Its 1/3 the weight. In soundproofing, Mass is key.

@sonopan_msl so in other words lol comparing 4x8 sheet to 4x8 sheet it loses to 5/8 type x drywall lol Any term can be patened like "noise stop" but doesn't change how sound works and how mass is used But agreed adding it to normal sound proofing behind 2 layers of type x on a room within a room build, sure won't hurt but replacing 1 of those layers of drywall you will lose mass meaning u will lose isolation

SONOpan is designed to be installed behind the drywall for soundproofing, if you wish to use it for acoustics then it can be installed on top of the wall and covered with fabric. SONOpan can be doubled up in this instance.

unless they use tripple or 2x double panes for quad panes, they are probablay the weakest link. so you are right. kind of pointless spending all this time on sound proofing walls when the windows defeat the effort 3
