Hi, I'm Michelle. I am new artist, entrepreneur, creative and dreamer. At the age of 51 I have decided to return to the world of art and reignite my love of art and creativity. My long term plan is to become a full time working artist. I am going to explore many mediums and avenues of making and selling art. I have started this channel to document my journey, good and bad. My goal is to inspire and support anyone who wants to make their dreams of getting back into art and creativity a reality. I hope you will join me!
I want you to know you are always on time, your dreams are important and there are people out there waiting for you to share your gifts, skills, and knowledge with the world. You can do this, and I'm here to help.

I'm in a similar boat, though not fashion related art. Do you mind sharing what printer you purchased? I get bogged down in the multitudes of choices for things such as that, would love to know your experience. Thank you and best of luck in your endeavors!
I’m just amazed listening to your story is a lot like mine. You and I have a lot in common! I have a BFA in interior design and fine arts. I worked in that field for awhile, but veered off into a totally different career path. Then had a baby. Now I’m 53 and I want to be an artist everyday AND make money at it!!
I have just came to the same conclusion. I am trying to decide on my niche. Thank you for leading the way!
It was like you were telling my story just a bit different focus. I was obsessed with horses and animals and drew them constantly growing up and took every art class every year. I joined the navy after I went to college and dropped out because I didn’t know what I wanted to do…but did know I wanted out of Oklahoma. Ended up being a corpsman or nurse for three years…got out went to the art institute of Dallas and became a broadcast designer and animator. Did that for ten years had my son by myself and as a single mom, had to quit because of the hours when he got old enough for school. Would have never seen him which would have ruined him emotionally. I took art welding, I’ve done project management, web design and now at 55 the VA is paying for voc rehab and I’m doing photography…but I started painting in acrylics and oil after watching the videos by Milan Art Institute and am painting and loving it…I always tell people I’m 55 and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up and I’m really okay with that…
55 and can relate to a lot of this video. Thank you for being brave and showing others what options are out there.
The acrylic inks you got at Michael's... which brand are they? I really love those black circles. I think you called it trichromatic black?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉Congratulations!!
Way to go!! 🎉🎉 wishing you all the best. Thank you for sharing 😊
you are really skilled with Procreate!
It was really nice listening to your story, very interesting and how brave to take a year off! I'm in my 40s and also pursuing my art dream, have been working in my day job part time for last 3 years, but now I'm being made redundant. I always supported myself financially so it scares me to lose my main income. Hopefully we all make it to the full time asap! ❤
Sometimes the universe gives you a push. 😉❤️
So happy for you, I can FEEL your excitement talking about fashion design and incorporating it with illustration. I'm looking forward to following your journey!
Thankyou for sharing your sketch book journey Michelle. A place where you can be free to explore ideas and inspirations. It's great to experiment to find what you enjoy and the media that speaks to you. I too have sketchbooks of trying art techiques, effects (not finished pieces of art) but building my mark making, visual language and my own art style. I like the top left black cat with little white eyes. A simple but beautiful character you've created there 😊
Wow...I could have written this myself, you are so relatable!! Burn out single mum having worked in Soecial Needs Education for years, sold my house & bought a van to live in, travel, recover & develop develop my art practice into something I can create an income from ❤ thanks so much for sharing your journey, it gives me hope!! And good luck with all you do 🎉😊
Oh, wow! Van life has tempted me as well but not as easy to do full time in Canada. Maybe one day! Good luck to you! ❤️😊
O WOW!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! So happy for you. I just found you today. You are my new found Mentor!!!!! I so need to hear all your inspirational words today and for giving me hope. I’m 59, my life is a shambles at the moment and focusing on making my art work for me is a priority (still working a full time job, as a carer). BUT I need to take care of me and my future, what’s left of it. I need to be able to take care of myself. So I’m researching and gaining as much info to make this goal work for me!!!! Thank you sooooo much for being you and sharing your thoughts and knowledge with us. You’re a star!
Thank you for your kind message! It is good to know I am able to help others. ❤️ I’m glad you are here and wishing you the best. 😊
I’m in the same boat! I’m 54 and built a successful consulting firm over the last ten years but I’m terribly unhappy. I returned to school a few years ago to obtain a degree in illustration. Now, I’m desperate to pivot to a creative career. You are an inspiration!
The abstract one in tones of blue, lavender, and mauve, with accents of yellow or lime is my favorite!
Thank you so much Michelle for sharing this list!!!! I will definitely come back with a few questions. I appreciate your insight!!!!
Love your video🩵💜🩵 I've heard alot of great things about designing t shirts with printful, and putting it on Etsy. You design it once and you get repeat business and printful takes care of everything for you just an idea🩵💜🩵
O my, you have so inspired me. I’m in my late 50’s and love art. (Painting, visual art). I started concentrating on this more in the last year, and still working full time too. What I don’t know and would like to know is how to market my work online!!!! This is the real hard part that I’m struggling with. So if you can do a video on how to. In a practical context please ❤❤❤
Clarity and positive attitude will surely bring great outcomes. Congratulations
Congratulations on meeting one of your goals!!
congratulations!!! So excited for you and know that you're inspiring others.
I wish you much luck. I say, you need a creative pivot point for the other related interests. Do not get too big too fast, or too scattered. You will be discouraged by the amount of work, having to hire personnel, etc. The one cost of doing business is a GOOD accountant. You must have one. They can do much of the work you have to do for the state and the feds.
Hello dear Michelle, Your videos are so great and encouraging. Big thumbs up from me :-) My name is Andrea and I come from Bavaria and live here in the middle of the mountains. I love nature and am happy to be able to live here. I have now also reached my 50s and am realizing how much life is changing, but in a positive way (and I will always love my Body :-) I also started painting and being creative again last year. I've gone pretty much the same way as you, but I don't yet have the confidence to make videos. But I will give it a try. I would love to be part of your membership, you can count me in too :-). Keep up the good work :-) You're doing a really great job and I love your videos for inspiration and encouragement. Big hug Andrea Schikora Eisenärzt
Hi Andrea, nice to meet you. So glad you are here! ❤️😊
I'm 68 and caring for a mate. I'm very isolated and draw solace from my art. It is a passion. I have sold some pieces, but need to bring in more income. I can't work outside the home, so I want to learn all the income streams. My best wishes to you and all the commenters here. ❤
How are you planning on navigating AI?
Like the rest of us, I’m still trying to figure that out. I only use it for the occasional writing project currently. Lots to learn.
Michelle! How exciting. I'm a late blooming artist and there are so many parallels in our lives. I am full time art now after raising my daughter as a parent alone. Now I'm widowed and free to travel and be a full time artist. So great to hear your journey! Best Wishes JOYcelyn
So glad for you that you are able to do art and travel! I will get there one day! ❤️
Thank you for this! I especially was touched by the thought of making videos for generations to come 🙏💙
Enjoyed listening to your journey. Love the authentic format. Wish you an amazing art journey with lots of success.
What type of classes will you take for the portraits? Thank you for telling us to start messy and the advice of practicing messy!
I am marketing you
You are advertising you are nowhere I think.. sorry my first impression was wrong, I love you
You are beautiful me always trying and no job
Great video, I'm so glad this came up in my feed. I picked back up on art and I am still trying to find my niche in my 50's so I found your video very helpful. I took a couple of WordPress classes from Udemy and was able to build a few sites. Classes go on sale a lot so I never paid more than $25 per class and learning to do it yourself gives you complete control on design and maintenance. I would love to print my own art and ship it out eventually, what kind of printer are you using?
Currently I used the Epson ET-15000 because it does wide format. Good luck to you! ❤️
Love this! Congratulations on launching so many amazing things for you! ❤
Congratulations Michelle on being monetized! It was awesome to see how your face lit up as you made your announcement. ☺ I am in my late 50's and have been working on building my creative business for the last couple of years. Having absolutely no experience with the business end of things, it has been a definite roller coaster ride and to be quite honest, this past week has found me in a state of overwhelm and floundering to the point of considering just giving up pursuing my business. Then for whatever reason, I was on KZread looking for something, and your video about 'Pursuing an art career in my 50's' popped up. Of course I was intrigued and had to watch. Thank you for sharing your story and your dreams. You've helped me to take a step back, take a deep breath, and remind myself I've got this. It is about the journey, what we learn along the way, and how we continue to grow during this time in our lives. I am cheering you on and wishing you all the best!🩷
I love that Colleen! I’m cheering you on as well! ❤️
Wow. Very cute❤
Thanks Michelle, I think there are so many people who are in the same position. Working a job to pay the bills in the hope they can go back to their art later…. later… later. And suddenly the years have gone by and everyone seems younger and competitive but you and many of the commentators here have agreed …. it’s never too late to follow your dreams….. but it’s not easy, when you trying to keep a roof over your head and financial responsibilities. I read a saying a few days ago ‘if you don’t risk failure you aren’t living’ (something like that🤣) I hope it works out for you and best of luck with it all. Not sure about myself, I will keep going with my 9-5 job 🙄 and enjoy my true love of art when I can. Good luck ☘️
There is nothing wrong with a 9-5 that gives you stability. As long as you can balance it out with finding things that make you happy then you are doing great! Thanks for being here! ❤️
@@michellejozina yes it’s true. I am finding the stress of work easier to handle since I have started back to my painting and drawing etc 🙏🏼 as for the subject of women trying to make it as artists - I am a real estate agent in my day job and in Ireland it’s a predominantly male but hey it could be worse and I am thankful for my job 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I THINK THIS IS A GEN X THING TOO. WE WERE THE FORGOTTEN GENERATION SO I THINK WEVE ALL STRUGGLED IN SILENCE TOO LONG. ITS TIME TO SHINE ...GEN X RISING
Michelle, I'm 55, and was a late Bloomer with my art too. I have published 5 children's books but I'm hitting a wall with it but it's nice to know I'm not alone at my age on the creative path. I.worked corporate for years and Hated it. It sucked the soul out of my life so I took a leap of faith and pursued my art dream. So we are definitely on similar paths! I wish you luck on your journey
That’s amazing! Good for you! That’s very encouraging to all of us I’m sure! ❤️
First of all: good kuck! You are very brave❤
Hello. Yep i am in the same boat. Should have pursued it 35 yrs ago. Have always wanted to get my designs on products. Its time foe me to do this at 59. Actively looking at getting into art licensing just as 1 avenue. Also getting ready to file for a divorce. It will be good to get that done. But i am so excited to be pursuing an art career. So much, too much of spinning my wheels with dead end jobs over the years. I could have saved myself and my kids so much grief and could have been home doing what i love if i had followed my heart and used the gift and talent i have been given. So, yea lets do support each other on our journeys! Thank you for sharing yours with us.
Excited for you! Just remember we are always on time. Good luck! ❤️
I left my teaching job at 50 to take care of my mom. While at home I started making little videos as a creative outlet. Mom passed a few months ago. Grief is intense. I want to find a way to not have to go back to teaching. Your video inspires me to create life that makes ME happy.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. 😰 sending you big hugs ❤️🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing, I'm 58, a self taught artist, my sister shared your video and I'm encouraged to never give up on my dream.
Such an inspiration! I'm in my 50's and finally following my heart with art as well. Love your message abt you nvr know when it van happen, just start with inspired action! So needed to hear this, TY❤🎉
Thanks Michelle, this was helpful!
I think you said what a lot of us are thinking and dreaming of. I just turned 56 and I have decided to finally pursue that creative path that I gave up in my 20s when my creativity got crushed by the reality of having to pay rent, and my self esteem was shattered by bad relationships, and toxic workplaces, etc. I think the last few years of my life have made me realize that we only get this one life and if I don’t build myself up to do the things I always wanted to do, nobody else will.
So true! Reality sucks and that’s why I decided to be delusional! 😝 no one is coming to save us but our own damn selves. 🤩❤️
@@michellejozina Amen!!!!!!
I think we find our style in being inspired by many artists and different things we love. At the end the mixing of all this inspiration and our personality becomes our style. Creating what we would like to find/buy ourselves is the key.
I just discovered your channel and am so happy I did. I, too, was a creative child who wanted to be an artist. But, now, at 32 I almost feel like I'm behind and it's too late for me to change paths... Thank you for being such an inspiration and bravely sharing your story! I'll definitely be following along!❤
It’s never too late! You are so young still. You can change paths as many times as you want. There are no rules to life. Only the ones you decide to follow. 😝❤️
Michelle, first I want to say Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 🥳 😀 on your KZread success. I'm not experiencing people in my life say a lot of negative things. It's stepping out into unfamiliar territory that is speaking the loudest. But watching your previous video is giving the courage to step out and find out. Thank you again Michelle 🎉 From Kingsville, Ohio ❤ 😊
Thank you so much!!❤️
