Hi, I'm Michelle. I am new artist, entrepreneur, creative and dreamer. At the age of 51 I have decided to return to the world of art and reignite my love of art and creativity. My long term plan is to become a full time working artist. I am going to explore many mediums and avenues of making and selling art. I have started this channel to document my journey, good and bad. My goal is to inspire and support anyone who wants to make their dreams of getting back into art and creativity a reality. I hope you will join me!

I want you to know you are always on time, your dreams are important and there are people out there waiting for you to share your gifts, skills, and knowledge with the world. You can do this, and I'm here to help.

I'm in a similar boat, though not fashion related art. Do you mind sharing what printer you purchased? I get bogged down in the multitudes of choices for things such as that, would love to know your experience. Thank you and best of luck in your endeavors!

I’m just amazed listening to your story is a lot like mine. You and I have a lot in common! I have a BFA in interior design and fine arts. I worked in that field for awhile, but veered off into a totally different career path. Then had a baby. Now I’m 53 and I want to be an artist everyday AND make money at it!!

It was like you were telling my story just a bit different focus. I was obsessed with horses and animals and drew them constantly growing up and took every art class every year. I joined the navy after I went to college and dropped out because I didn’t know what I wanted to do…but did know I wanted out of Oklahoma. Ended up being a corpsman or nurse for three years…got out went to the art institute of Dallas and became a broadcast designer and animator. Did that for ten years had my son by myself and as a single mom, had to quit because of the hours when he got old enough for school. Would have never seen him which would have ruined him emotionally. I took art welding, I’ve done project management, web design and now at 55 the VA is paying for voc rehab and I’m doing photography…but I started painting in acrylics and oil after watching the videos by Milan Art Institute and am painting and loving it…I always tell people I’m 55 and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up and I’m really okay with that…

It was really nice listening to your story, very interesting and how brave to take a year off! I'm in my 40s and also pursuing my art dream, have been working in my day job part time for last 3 years, but now I'm being made redundant. I always supported myself financially so it scares me to lose my main income. Hopefully we all make it to the full time asap! ❤

Thankyou for sharing your sketch book journey Michelle. A place where you can be free to explore ideas and inspirations. It's great to experiment to find what you enjoy and the media that speaks to you. I too have sketchbooks of trying art techiques, effects (not finished pieces of art) but building my mark making, visual language and my own art style. I like the top left black cat with little white eyes. A simple but beautiful character you've created there 😊

I’m 59, my life is a shambles at the moment and focusing on making my art work for me is a priority (still working a full time job, as a carer). BUT I need to take care of me and my future, what’s left of it. I need to be able to take care of myself. So I’m researching and gaining as much info to make this goal work for me!!!! Thank you sooooo much for being you and sharing your thoughts and knowledge with us. You’re a star!

I wish you much luck. I say, you need a creative pivot point for the other related interests. Do not get too big too fast, or too scattered. You will be discouraged by the amount of work, having to hire personnel, etc. The one cost of doing business is a GOOD accountant. You must have one. They can do much of the work you have to do for the state and the feds.

I've gone pretty much the same way as you, but I don't yet have the confidence to make videos. But I will give it a try. I would love to be part of your membership, you can count me in too :-). I took a couple of WordPress classes from Udemy and was able to build a few sites. Classes go on sale a lot so I never paid more than $25 per class and learning to do it yourself gives you complete control on design and maintenance. I would love to print my own art and ship it out eventually, what kind of printer are you using?

Congratulations Michelle on being monetized! It was awesome to see how your face lit up as you made your announcement. ☺ I am in my late 50's and have been working on building my creative business for the last couple of years. Having absolutely no experience with the business end of things, it has been a definite roller coaster ride and to be quite honest, this past week has found me in a state of overwhelm and floundering to the point of considering just giving up pursuing my business. Then for whatever reason, I was on KZread looking for something, and your video about 'Pursuing an art career in my 50's' popped up. Of course I was intrigued and had to watch. Thank you for sharing your story and your dreams. You've helped me to take a step back, take a deep breath, and remind myself I've got this. It is about the journey, what we learn along the way, and how we continue to grow during this time in our lives. I am cheering you on and wishing you all the best!🩷

Thanks Michelle, I think there are so many people who are in the same position. Working a job to pay the bills in the hope they can go back to their art later…. later… later. And suddenly the years have gone by and everyone seems younger and competitive but you and many of the commentators here have agreed …. it’s never too late to follow your dreams….. but it’s not easy, when you trying to keep a roof over your head and financial responsibilities. I read a saying a few days ago ‘if you don’t risk failure you aren’t living’ (something like that🤣) I hope it works out for you and best of luck with it all. Not sure about myself, I will keep going with my 9-5 job 🙄 and enjoy my true love of art when I can. Good luck ☘️

Hello. Yep i am in the same boat. Should have pursued it 35 yrs ago. Have always wanted to get my designs on products. Its time foe me to do this at 59. Actively looking at getting into art licensing just as 1 avenue. Also getting ready to file for a divorce. It will be good to get that done. But i am so excited to be pursuing an art career. So much, too much of spinning my wheels with dead end jobs over the years. I could have saved myself and my kids so much grief and could have been home doing what i love if i had followed my heart and used the gift and talent i have been given. So, yea lets do support each other on our journeys! Thank you for sharing yours with us.

I just turned 56 and I have decided to finally pursue that creative path that I gave up in my 20s when my creativity got crushed by the reality of having to pay rent, and my self esteem was shattered by bad relationships, and toxic workplaces, etc. I think the last few years of my life have made me realize that we only get this one life and if I don’t build myself up to do the things I always wanted to do, nobody else will.
