How I stay creative if I don't feel like painting. How to stay inspired and creative without a mess.

Hey creatives!
Today I am making a confession. Sometimes I don't feel like painting and getting out of the supplies and then cleaning up the mess. I'm not sure if I'm lazy or procrastinating, lol! Don't get me wrong, I love art and creating with paint and other materials but when you have a small space to do it, it often becomes a big chore. So in this video I am being very honest and vulnerable with that confession and then showing you some of the other ways I am still able to be creative and stay inspired. When the feeling hits I will definitely be getting out my paints and canvas again. I am learning to let things be easy and using my intuition to guide me into doing the things that feel right in the moment and bring me joy, whatever that may be.
If you are new here, I'm Michelle and I am rediscovering art in my 50's and hope to one day be a self employed full time artist. I love vintage, interior decorating, DIY, plants, animals and a good cup of coffee in a handmade pottery mug. I also like to share my journey in the hopes of inspiring others to do the same and realize that anything is possible if you have a dream.

Thanks for sharing. I like to visit art galleries and museums. Go through my art books. Clean my art studio. Go through my older art journals. Be creative and cook something new to me. Hang out with other artists (I belong to a drawing group and we get together once a week and sketch). Practice drawing with pen. I haven't explored Procreate, though I have it on my iPad, but I will one of these days. I have so much art supplies I feel that I really should use those up before I go digital. I have seen artists use Procreate to create compositions that they can use for their paintings and that seems like a cool way to use it too. I'm now fortunate to have a dedicated art room just for me and anything I want to do. I love it. I wish I had a sink in here but the bathroom is right next door so not too far to wash stuff. Back many, many years ago when all I had was a small kitchen table to do art on, I used tote caddies to carry my art supplies in to and from the table. I raised a family so that table needed to be cleared for meal time. Those tote caddies were awesome and saved my sanity. I could quickly pull out art supplies and put them back easily. Tossing on a plastic picnic table cover to protect my kitchen table and a couple tote caddies and I was ready to do art.

Thank you so much for sharing all of your amazing suggestions! I love all of those things! I have also been feeling guilty about not using all of the art supplies have but I have found making art on my iPad has the least amount of resistance for me to be making art in some form. I have found I really love snuggling on my sofa and drawing/creating. Lol! I have been think of getting a little trolley on wheels to put all of my supplies on. Great idea! 🥰

This was the video I needed to see. I came upon it when searching for videos on being productive with a chronic illness. It took a few tries, but finally the youtube algorithm figured out that what I really wanted to know was what to do with creative feelings when I didn't have the energy to do art. Thanks for the inspiration, I subscribed.

It makes me so happy that my video found you and was helpful! Let it be easy I always say. Just do what feels good in the moment and not what you think you should be doing. ❤️

I don’t paint per se, but I use paints and stencils in my art journals. However, I don’t have a dedicated art space and have to use the kitchen table. So, getting out all the “stuff” makes me a little lazy knowing that I have a limited work time and have to clean everything up even if I’m not done. Also, I’m 74 and live with chronic pain so I tend to create on my couch. I love to make collages and I’m almost always up to fussy cutting and gluing. I love harvesting magazines and books for images and getting inspired by that. I also crochet, color, cook, and do lots of jigsaw puzzles. Have to keep these old hands busy!😂

I love that you do so many creative things but don’t actually paint. That is exactly what I’m talking about. I love all the little things we can do all while being comfy on our couch. You definitely have to keep your mind and hands busy to enjoy life. I’m going to try some punch needle work this spring and I’m very excited about it! Thanks for watching! 🥰

Omgggggg I am also a puzzler. Puzzling and painting- my two favorite activities lol!!!!! Very nice video.... I found your channel yesterday and also followed you on IG. I hear you, sometimes getting set up to paint can be a bit of a barrier..... I like to keep everything within reach of my art chair because if I can't sit down and reach for it I am probably going to be too lazy to use it LOL! I just got the US Art supply drawers and they fit sooooo much stuff I can't believe it. SO many materials right there within reach, it's wonderful. I also keep three ball jars with plastic lids right on my table so I don't have to fuss with getting water when I want to paint. The lids are because my cats will knock them over if I don't cover them lol.

And Procreate is the best! I’ve been sitting here on my comfy sofa this morning playing around with repeat patterns on my iPad. I find it so relaxing and fun. 🥰
