The court had way more patience than I would have. Charles definitely did the things he was accused of and there's no benefit to playing games with a royal who's not even going to try and properly negotiate.

I spent 2 weeks cycling the entire length of the Rhine this spring. It really puts the significance of the crossing into picture for me. There are long stretches of 100+ km at a time without any bridges, even today. Ferries still serve as the primary mode of crossing for many germans, even now.

Huh. So Spartans would be given helots and land by the government? Aristocratic universal basic income? Sparta is such a weird mix of what would be considered conservative or liberal policies today.

You do a every good job at balancing a delicate act. Of balancing both education and narration, without succumbing to making it distractingly "comedic", simplifying the topic and delivering a compelling account on top of all that. I just want to say keep doing what you're doing.

It's upsetting to see so many historians trying to rewrite history to minimize the sea peoples. My uncle was killed by the sea peoples, but now everyone's trying to carry water for them.

Doesn't the black death have a large impact on the medieval labor? less laborers, more liberal work conditions. We do not die like that anymore, so we provide more competition to each other since, no?

So it sounds like some external factor affects every single human, making them all vulnerable and turn on each other out of necessity. The Sea People doesnt even seem like a main culprit at all.

you can never laugh about the systematic subjugation of women. You can never laugh about the systematic subjugation of anyone. Nobody, no person and no group, should ever be subjugated for the benefit of some other person or group. Everyone deserves their dignity.

This topic is just what I've been wanting to see more on for a couple of years. Nobody had been covering it. Tambora is so much more important than Vesuvius and not overly attended to by North American mafia. I had just read a YA bio on Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and have very much wanted to find more content on everyday life under this shadow. Excited to see that you include the next few resultant years. Looking forward to watching.
