The amx has the standard engine 450 Carter cast iron intake mild cam 4600 peak. The scj larger carb hi po cam alum high rise ,if you changed the AMX to equal specs like the group 19 hi po cam alum intake and 780 carb it whould be even greater times ,the same tune the AMX whould destroy the mustang, with 38 less cubes.

15.6 is very good for this 4050# car with driver! The guy is not speed shifting due to not wanting to break any parts and also those Ford shifters were not the best for speed shifting anyways!!

You can really see the 455 doing the work with extra cubes. What a great race. A 455 HO in 72 is the low compression roundport where the RAII is the high compression roundport. It's a hell of a Pontiac bench race captured in real life!

The 455 was GM’s strongest engine of the time, outside of the L88/ZL1 which could only run on race gas. That little Cleveland is a feat of engineering and produces an insane sound.

What a sweet sound! One of my favorite cars! I'd like to hear the cam from behind the car. The (stock?) 70 Judge automatic got traction. A set of drag radials on the Z24 would work wonders.

1970 AMX 390 had the new dog leg heads, log exhaust manifold with 2 1/4 outlets simular to the Rebel Machine, large port intake, Motorcraft 4300 carb with 3.15 to 1 rear gears, or optional 3.54 to 1. AMX weight,3,170 lbs. Factory rated at 325 gross horse, really around 345 gross horse. 1972 Javelin AMX, 401 with free flo exhaust and 2 1/4" outlet with 2'' outlet after the muffler, power robbing air injection for manual transmission, small port intake, Motorcraft 4300 smog calibrated carb, dish pistons with 8.5 to 1 compression, 3.54 to 1 rear gear or optional 3.91 to 1.Horsepower now rated at 255 net horse, really closer to 245 net. Javelin AMX weight 3,470 lbs. The 1972 Cowl Induction hood was found to be far superiour to the standard forward facing hood scoop, by giving a 5% to 7% horse power boost above 70 mph.

My stock 17' Camaro Super Sport 6 speed manual will out run this but this would give me a good run for my money. Stick a modern 6 speed manual trans in this and add some slicks and who knows what will happen.
