Hand-i-Craft

Hand-i-Craft

After a serious car accident in May, 2018 I suffered nerve damage and lost the use of my dominant right hand and arm. I took to woodworking as a kind of physical and mental therapy. I'll be uploading some videos on how I make stuff just using the one arm. My partner and I set up Hand-i-Craft to demonstrate you can still be creative despite physical limitations and look forward to sharing our work and hopefully seeing some of yours :)

    Hi Leo. My name is Shauntae and I’m in the USA on the East Coast. I have been dealing with chronic pain for 12 years. I had a spinal fusion surgery at the L5 S1 last May and it failed. I am now in much worst pain than before the surgery. I now am being told I should consider a trial for the Spinal Cord Stimulator. I am really considering it bc what was back and hip pain is now back hip and Terrible feet pain. Thank you so much for your video and most importantly your honestly. And lastly I’m so happy for you that your pain and sleep and life have improved so drastically.

    Thanks Leo, your videos on your quest for a spinal stimulator and about having a spinal stimulator have been very informative. The trial worked very well for me. The permanent was put in 3 weeks ago. I’m still sore from the incisions, but the stimulator has probably cut the pain 50 to 60 percent already. I have the latest version of a Medtronic spinal cord stimulator. It has a contentious closed loop technology and it automatically senses my movements. We are still in the adjustment phase, but so far I’m pleased. Having chronic takes a real toll. The last few nights I have been able to sleep through the night. This is a major improvement. Leo do you need anything for breakthrough pain?

    Cheers for the message and great to hear you are benefiting from reduced pain post surgery. Yes the incision marks and surgery are quite invasive and will take time to heal, but hopefully well worth it all in the long run 👍👍

    I'm interested in this as I, too, have cladding coated in the osmo uv protection oil which is looking poor and will require sanding back and recoated with an alternative. Interested on the sikkens, but notice you have used the Teak colour for this. Any reason you have went for lighter shades with some and darker shades with others? I Would think the long term results will differ quite a lot depending on what shade you use. The darker the shade of product equals more pigmentation and in turn more uv resistance generally.

  • @Hand-i-Craft
    @Hand-i-Craft4 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment. It wasn’t a deliberate intention to go for vastly darker colours, I think teak was probably closest to the natural keruing colouring. The Rubio arrived and immediately I realised it would be much darker than I thought, but still decided to test it anyway 👍

    Hi Leo , I just wanted to say a massive heart felt thank you for the 3 videos you have put out on re the Nevro SCS . I only found and watched all 3 yesterday as I have been searching for a UK patient experience for ages and there's nothing out there that goes into as much depth as you have done. You have helped me understand so much more about the process of the SCS and the emotions I have been struggling with associated with living with chronic pain. I too am a patient at Walton Neuro hospital and have been on the SCS pathway for 3.5 years and today finally had the Nevro SCS Trial fitted, I mentioned to Hannah the specialist nurse that it was watching your videos that provided me with the reassurance that I needed. Like you say the medical and all hospital staff are outstanding and supportive but being able to identify with another patient has been invaluable to me. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for what you've done you are an inspiration. Take care and wishing you continued good luck with your SCS journey.

    Hello Denise, I don’t know where to start except firstly to thank you for such a thoughtful, kind and considerate message. Yes I think you have to live the experience of chronic pain to understand the full impact it has on you as a person, but also your family and loved ones. This one message alone is enough for me to know the videos were worth putting together. I’m glad you found some of the content useful, I hope your trial SCS is a success and keeps you on that path to a more permanent reduction in your pain. My sincere best wishes to you and your family, Leo ❤️🙏👍

    Found this v interesting three years ago I installed cedar cladding - probably about 30 sq metres and immediately finished with OSMO - the next year it was still looking great in the summer but a little faded so I coated again with OSMO UV protection oil, and over the winter the cedar now has black staining consistently over most of the cladding. It looks terrible and today I started to sand it back - and I’m having to cut back probably 4 coats of dried OSMO to get rid of the black marks - what an effort completing this is going to be!! It appears the black marking has penetrated all coats !! So I can empathise with the OP - I put last years coat on in good weather with no inclement weather in the days after. I can only conclude that OSMO as a product has either changed formula, or it’s an inconsistent product that can’t be trusted. I’m not looking forward to having to sand all of this back and will NOT be taking the OSMO risk again 😢

    Can only compare it to using plain oils - linseed, tung, etc. On hardwood OSMO is way better, takes much longer before you need to recoat due to fungus, but it's not Varnish, plain oils only last a couple of months before starting to discolour. On Softwood I wouldn't expect any oil finish to last long in our climate as it moves way too much with moisture and temp . Plain oils only last months.
