    Good to see a program on Geeta Dutt with some rarely heard songs from films like Mujrim (1958) and Love Marriage (1959). It is sad that she did not sing many songs for Shankar Jaikishan or any of the duos for that matter. But she did sing great songs for composers like Roshan in movies like Coffee House (1957). Quite entertaining program indeed.

    It is truly fascinating to consider how renowned poets such as Majrooh Sultanpuri, Jan Nisar Akhtar, and Kaifi Azmi were persuaded leftist OP Nayyar to contribute their lyrical talents to his compositions. In the film "Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi," Nayyar skillfully incorporated five different lyrics, showcasing his versatility as a composer.

    OP Nayyar made the career of Shakti Samant by giving hit music for his Howrah Bridge, Jalinote, Kashmiri ki Kali and Sawan ki Ghata.What were the reasons of his switching to OP and never gave any chance to OP.

  • @peeyushsharma346
    @peeyushsharma34623 күн бұрын

    He acknowledged it and said Kashmir KI Kali was his most favorite ever. For Evening in Paris, it was believed such movies with foreign locales was best dealt with by SJ, and Shammi insisted too. And after Sawan Ki Ghata, OP started to lose his market standing very fast. He became a MD of Dara Singh type films and as such Shakti did not take a chance. Then, Aradhana was a Bengal subject and story, SDB was ideally suited. Rest is history. OP was lost by now

    1. Unfortunately Puchcho na kaise was not nominated. That year Mahendra Kapoor won for Chalo Ekbar Fir Se. (I am sure B R Chopra had a 'dirty' role in Mahendra winning the award ahead of Rafi. Though the composition and the lyric is terrific, Mahendra's uncomfortability is evident in the song's antara). Anyway, Puccho na kaise is copied from the Nazrul Geeti. This is not about similarity....this is not about Ahir Bhairav ..... Puchho na Kaise was a direct lift from the Nazrul Geeti Arun Kanti Ke Go Jogi Bhikhari. Nazrul was SDB's guru for quite some time. Everybody copied, SDB was no exception. His two filmfare awards - the first one was for a copied song (Jaye to jaye kahan), whereas the second album (Abhiman) had a copied song. Both copied from Rabindra Sangeet without mentioning/acknowledging Tagore. 2. As regards Aradhana, surprisingly SDB switched from Rafi after Guide making Kishore his first male singer. This was happening as RD Burman's influence grew in SDB's recording room. In an interview Shakti Samant said that the songs of Aradhana were recorded in Kishore's voice because Rafi was not around (out of town/country). He wouldn't have said that if Kishore was the first choice from the very beginning. Kishore even snatched songs that SDB composed keeping especially Rafi in mind (Dil aaj shayer). Kishore was kind of a family to SDB. 3. In the Manna-Asha duet SDB used the wrong shade of Manna's voice....that's why we see Asha dominating here. That's why it has become a bad duet. 4. Manna might have some grudge against SDB for not using him enough. However, very rarely he spoke ill of SDB. Surprisingly, in his TV interviews in the 1980s, he praised Naushad a lot among the composers ... often mentioning his name at first while talking about composers. This is surprising because he did not sang much for him. And he talked about Shankar when it comes to composers who used him the most. Manna dey wrote a glowing tribute to Naushad in Bengali Magazine Anandalok when Naushad died. 5. HQ Chowdhury sometimes gets carried away, and sounds like Raju Bharatan. 6. Sorry for the long comment. I understand that we have different opinion, but my respect for you is immense. Take good care of you.

  • @peeyushsharma346
    @peeyushsharma34627 күн бұрын

    i disagree on many points. SDB accepted no interference from anyone, including his son. Where was the RD influence when SD was composing Paying Guest and Nau Do Gyarah and choosing his singers Your comparison of HQ da with Raju B shows your lack of understanding and appreciation for facts Manna, till mid 70s, when I had met him most of the time, praised SD to the sky. Then he shifted to Shankar and by new millennium he said Lakshmikat was the best.. Last I met him was in Toronto Canada in 2005 or so, when I asked him he rudely retorted; Kaino tumi jaano na that they (LP) are the best. SD groomed Kishore from late 40s, and really loved him. But, he would not compromise on his choice of a singer. Neeraj is on record that Dil aaj shayar hai, was composed as it is and Kishore was the first choice. In Aradhana, yes Kishore songs were recorded first in 1968 and Rafi was on a world tour, but it was the demand of the composition that SD pulled in Kishore to sing them Thanks, your comments make me think and are always welcome

    Manna Dey’s voice quality declined quite fast. It was a ghisi hui voice by early 1960s. His voice in songs such as chale jaa rahe hain, tu pyar ka sagar hai, aaja sanam, sur na saje etc. in the early and mid 50s was excellent - full and sharp edged…. as impactful as Rafi’s, Kishore”s.

    Mannadey and SD are an excellent combination as seen from this chat and many aspects were brought forth as regarding their relationship. I wish to add one point here . Manzil (1960) was a movie which as per the available information had 4 songs from Mannadey (one song on Mehmood was discussed here) and one duet with Asha Bhosle (Aa kash chalte milke ) and one solo (Humdam se gaye ) both on the hero making him the main singer but Rafi and Hemant Kumar also sang for the hero in this film ! There was one more song by him (Ab kise pata kai ho kya ) which is supposed to be removed from the movie ! Only I wished that there was some discussion on these three songs also as they were also equally good , if not better.

    What a nice program Peeyush ji. I am really so so glad to come across your channel. I feel you are a true music lover because unlike many other presenters , you bring all types of songs to us some of which are very rare and lesser heard. And the beautiful stories are like icing on the cake. The way you present is the way I feel old melodies should be discussed and celebrated. I am much younger than you Sir. But I feel we have a very similar taste in music. I have two requests to you Sir. One if you can increase the frequency of your program. Or if you can increase the duration. I feel it should never end. Second request is that since you are one of the very rare persons who has a very deep knowledge of Bengali movie songs or Bengali music in general , it would be really nice if you can do some programs on the singers and musicians from Bengal too like Sandhya Mukherjee, Nachiketa Ghosh, Manabendra Mukherjee etc. I feel outside Bengal even genuine music lovers don't know much about them while they have so many good songs to offer. I feel you are the best person who can bring out the beauty of Bengal music to the Indian public. I would like to connect to you via whatsapp or gmail because there is so much to learn from you. Kindly let me know how to reach out to you. And thank you so much for so much effort that you put for all of us. Since Hemant Kumar's birthday is celebrated in June only, if you can bring a program on the duets of Hemant Kumar, it would be very nice. Namaskar.

    1. Geeta had the sweetest voice among all the hindi female playback singers. 2. Geeta sang probably two songs for Naushad - Tu mera chand and Mujhe huzoor tumse pyar hain. I wish you had shed some light on this. Mujhe Huzoor was quite famous in Portugal because it was the title/opening music for a popular Portuguese TV show. I wish Naushad had used Geeta more. Especially the songs of Dulari, barring Ae Dil Tujhe Qasam Hai, would have sounded marvelous in Geeta's voice. 3. The Cine music composers' association in those days was led by Anil and Naushad (if I am not wrong). It still baffles me how these two openly campaigned for Lata.

    सर, नमस्ते 🙏 यह कार्यक्रम भी "कमाल" का रहा. बड़ी बारिकाई से आप गाने के बोल appreciate करते हैं और हम लुफ्त उठाते हैं. वाकई में ये बोल "कमाल" के लगते हैं. नए नए आयाम आप उड़ेल कर रख देते हैं. कर्यक्रम में एकाग्रता बनी रहती है. कर्यक्रम बहुत पसंद आया.👌👌🎉

    Peeyush Sharma saheb ji.... Just watched this. Many thanks for a very informative programme on Kishore Kumar and Sachin Dev Burman. Ref that observation by your goodself that Rafi saab had declined to sing for Dilip Kumar anymore and Dada Burman brought Kishore to sing all songs for Sagina 1974. "Only Anand ji knows the answer why Rafi saab declined " was your observation. Have a question pls. Dilip Kumar did Bairaag 1976 post Sagina 1974. Rafi saab did sang some songs in Bairaag 1976 but whether these were recorded much earlier, not known. Also Kranti released 1981 ( post Rafi saab death July 31, 1980 ) had few lines sung by Rafi saab....Chanaa jor garam babu... Your views on last para above appreciated saab ji. Stay Well. God Bless Thanks 31 May 2024

    Thank you very much for your comments. Bairag was in the making for some 4 or 5 years,. And Kranti had lines recorded and used on anyone that Manoj later thought of. But for sure, Rafi Saab declined to sing for Dilip

    Many thanks janab Peeyush Sharma saheb ji for your prompt response Some friends are wondering ( as Rafi saab was known to be a kind soul ) and was never known to say no to anyone asking for help. Some even called him a Farishta amongst us mere mortals here. This declining to Dilip saab ( eek aur Big name) seen as a slur on Rafi`s name/character without clarifying root cause. Any inkling on why this happened or is it possible to get Anand ji to open up sir ji through your contacts in India ? Warm Regards @@peeyushsharma346

    1. My favorite song from "Dil Deke Dekho" is "Megha Re Bole." 2. I would like to request an analysis on whether Rafi was a method singer. In my opinion, Rafi is probably the greatest method singer in the world. While the impact of Dilip Kumar in Bollywood and Marlon Brando in Hollywood is well documented, Rafi's contribution in this aspect is unfortunately neglected. Rafi doesn't enjoy the same status in singing that Dilip Kumar and Marlon Brando rightfully enjoy in acting.

    Rafi deserves more, his reach was far beyond Brando or Dilip. He was most accomplished singer we have ever had in Hindi films ever.
