A lawnmower blade is a knife. I've seen guys who were professional knife sharpeners and they never sharpen on only one side. Just saying

Thank God for men like you that know this all this stuff and make videos to help people like me. I’m a carpenter and anything mechanical pisses me off if I try to figure out it out on my own. I was figuring it would be something much more complex and it wasn’t 👍

Yes, but it doesn't tell you that the plug is good even if it sparks. Sometimes the plug will fire when tested that way, but under pressure it won't. It's is somewhat rare though. At least this proves that the power is there to provide the spark and that's what the video is for. Right?

How much would it matter after the warranty period? I've had my 1988~ Honda H3011 for about 20 years and I am not the first owner. So here in 2024 I needed 4 screws for the steering column cover. It cost me over $6/screw for an OEM part including ship & tax very expensive but a deck screw would have looked obviously out of place. I don't know a thing about John Deeres but pretty much most parts are still available for Honda lawn mowers reaching all the way back from the 80's. And whether I bought my mower from a big box store a dealership or off of craigslist after the warranty parts availability is key.

Good stuff but there is no reason to pull the spark plug to do this. Simply don't depress the safety bar on the handle. Now the compression of the piston at TDC is even more apparent and they engine will NOT start.

Thanks Steve. I killed the chains on two of my three saws after the Derecho here in Houston the past few days. This helped me to order replacements. Can you tell us a bit about the difference in tooth count -- what it does for and against you -- assuming the other parameters on the chain (pitch and drive width) are the same?

I think John Deere is pure junk, I have a new mower, $3267.00, it has 15 hours on it, I have had it for a year. I am afraid to run it, because I am afraid it will fall apart. Plastic parts, feels like you are driving a disposable mower.

Great tip! I had already been tipping it in that direction, but my reason was to put the gas cap on the upper side. I hadn't even thought of engine oil, hydro-lock or anything. I suppose I must have had times when the combustion chamber filled with oil, but since I didn't start it right away, it had time to drain back down. But now having seen this, I will always do it this way. Thanks!

Because these little engines are so reliable, they are their own worst enemy . You pull the cord , they start and run happily forever, and the basic maintenance gets neglected .
