lol two stories 1) my jet ski broke down once and I took the seat off to look into the engine bay. looking down got me sea sick in moments, to yeah thanks for the tip about where to put my soon to purchase compass. 2) I went hunting once and had a compass to direct me the woods. I got lost for hours and had no clue what was going on. A few weeks later it came to me, my gloves has magnetic buttons on it, so yeah keeping stuff that can affect the compass is crucial

I noticed when you do the bow rudder, your chest may be more contracted by your left arm (as you were demonstrating) as it crosses up and over. With the cross bow rudder you remain in the box stance with an open chest. Do yo think this allow for more unconstricted torso roatation? I've been canoe paddling for 40 some years (solo) and early on got a freestyle boat and learned the moves directly from the boat builder. We practiced in a group of 4-6 almost once weekly for 2 years. I incorporated all those same moves in my wilderness paddling. Now I'm trying to extend my repertoire into kayaking, and am finding all the same principle apply.

NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!! I have seen a few people mount the oil cooler there, in this position, ITS A VERY BAD IDEA, people, do NOT copy this. First google head hight and any pump!!! what you have done is, you have raised the head hight of the oil, way too high, you should keep the oil cooler on the same level as the mid-point off the engine (give or take a few inches) The oil pump now need to lift the oil way up much higher than ever before, too the very top of that oil cooler, and hopefully at least I hope you have worked out how to bleed the now newly created air pocket. its not a good idea,

I learned digging your paddle into white oxygenated water doesn't get you far, plant the paddle into the green/blue/brown water for positive energy.

I just made a move to CT 2 years ago, as hard as it was for me to pick up my NJ life and relocate Ive found some great places here in this state. Also recently rekindled my love of photography and considering another book myself. Kayaking has been the one thing that has held it all together for me. Cheers!

Every time I see video of someone saying use your core, it still looks like >70% of the motion (just to make up a number) is still coming from the arms, and the core seems to barely move at all. This video, too. There’s a ton of arm motion and like 10 degrees of torso twist on the “use your core” shot. I feel like I’m misunderstanding something, because “most of the motion comes from your core, seems to me to mean most of the pull backwards on the paddle should come from twisting. But even if I’m wrong (which I very probably am), no one ever explains it any further than “use your core”. That’s a vague statement, and I can’t be the only confused paddler.

I purchased one of these for the top of my FJ cruiser. It is so tall it is almost impossible for me to get the kayak up there by myself. I am doing a trial run without the kayaks just to test the roof, but I am getting a lot of whistling And wind sound. Was this your experience as well?

This doesn't look like it will work with most fixed ridgeline hammocks like Haven, Hennessey, or possibly Amok. (There are more like Warbonnet and Dutchware as examples. ) I have tried several stands with the several hammock models I have purchased since 2020. I sleep in a hammock every night in my room and a good stand for these types of hammocks has proven to be a challenge to find. (I have a Kammock Swiftlet, Tensa 4 and now a Yobogear Hive.) Any insights on using this stand with the hammlcks mentioned above?

I’m 64 and started kayaking in early 70’s. I discovered the Greenland paddle 3 years ago. My advice ! Just buy the best Greenland paddle you can afford. You will paddle further with much less fatigue and will have far more control and better use of your Yak. I use Gearlab carbon fiber and FREAKING love it. With my P&H Volan 160 in the light weight 42 lb carbon Kevlar this paddle makes everything effortless and highly efficient !

I've been surfing a sit-on with thigh braces for the last 19 years on the West Coast of the South Island on New Zealand. I love powering into a wave thats just about to break, using my hips to transfer my weight backwards, and can sometimes get quite high in the air. The first time I did it, I was surfing a backwash out, and went over several waves getting higher air each time. The last one must have thrown me 2 metres or more in the air. I didn't land it, and didn't have a leash, as I hadn't even paddled out to the big breakers before. I learnt quickly that day. I've paddled through the cave under the famous Punakaiki blowhole too, That was pretty cool, as I've also been a keen caver for many decades.

Why does everybody say this? "Oh, you won't be able to see it, you won't be able to see it..." Yeah, you can; guys, JUST CROSS YOUR EYES SLIGHTLY. Your brain will do the rest to guide your eyes in to overlap the view; it's what happens whenever you open your eyes. You just need to trick your brain into crossing the images about half the distance to the screen, and then you'll see it. Trust me.

One issue I've found is, paddlers are reluctant to turn them their VHF radios on. They say they want to save the battery for emergencies. The problem with that is nobody is monitoring the frequency. For example, if a paddler gets separated from the group and has an emergency they won't be able to contact other paddlers if the other paddlers have their radios off.

Nice vid. I would avoid turtle diving in bigger conditions. It can work but it's better to work on timing, moving in the impact zone, and accerating. I always vote power and speed into bigger waves with timing. Also another tip is slight angle, reach deep down into the green water as you reach over along with leaning hard forwards. Often times folks sit in a neutral position weighting the stern which sends them into a back surf as the water hits the foam of the pfd. This is why surf kayaks usually wear wetsuits only so they can break through the surf like a surf boarder.

I have several kayaks of different types. For doing chores and poking into coves and inlets around our cabin I really enjoy the 9' long, 40 pound recreational kayak that I got from a big box store for $200. I often paddle it using an ultralight carbon paddle that cost double what the kayak did. One thing I learned about my good paddles is not to let kayaking partners try using them until we are close to the end of our paddle. The reason is because they aren't going to want to give it back and I'll end up feeling like I'm paddling with a garden shovel.

Nice video, I just recently made 2 Greenland paddles (which I'll need to learn how to use) and I purchased the Quick Fist rubber mounts hoping they will work. I was planning on doing exactly what you did in your video, but then I saw your video and was like "Wow, someone did exactly what I was thinking of doing" so this is perfect. I've got room on my Hullavator system to do the same and mounted these rubber quick-fist to them. If the paddles won't work due to being past the loom then I'll be switching to straps just as you have done. I am debating on maybe building a rack for my paddles with 4" sewer pipe and storing them inside. Less of a chance they can be stolen and protects them from bugs being splattered on them. Just don't know if I want an 8ft 4" pipe always attached to my truck roof racks. I usually remove the Hullavator when I'm not Kayaking. Good job and thanks for the visual of what mine will be like.
