As someone who grew up watching from tennant to capaldi, this just doesn’t feel like doctor who anymore. Something about the way it’s shot and directed with the vibrant colour grading and something about the acting and dialogue just isn’t the same. It just feels so odd and it feels like it’s a completely different show. Plus the whole magical aspects are done so bad and just feel off and not like doctor who. When I first saw the Christmas special and saw the goblin musical scene I knew I was going to hate this season because it’s just no longer doctor who and no longer the show that I grew up with. I get that they’re trying to encourage a new audience but I feel like they’re just alienating their current audience and that definitely is shown within the viewing figures.

I hated the musical numbers to be honest. I could just about put up with the one in the Christmas special as they sold the track for charity and the Doctor and Ruby only sing because the goblins do to distract them but the one in the Devil's Chord has no plot justification. The Space Babies were cringy. Jinx Monsoon was too over the top for me and like I say, the song and dance routine is not for me. I liked Boom, though, if I had to pick fault, I agree the kid is annoying if the Doctor was so careless that he just step onto the mine its a wonder he has lived so long. Tom Baker stepped on a mine once but it was a small part of one episode. Then the next episode he steps on something dangerous again. Look where you're going man! The episode has some good moments but it amounts to nothing as the events never actually happen and Ruby doesn't remember her experiences. Then we have the spoilt rich kids who you almost want to be eaten as they are so annoying. Lindy is so awful its hard to be on her side and then she actually sells out Ricky! Then they're all racist and wont let the Doctor save them. Then Rogue. I don't mind the gay flirting or even the kiss but the Doctor seems way more into Rogue then he should given they’ve known each other for only about 20 mins. He leaves Ruby alone and she nearly get killed. Plus the bird aliens whole motivation is crap they basically just want to cosplay Bridgerton?! Ruby saves herself from the alien and then Rogue saves her. I'm glad you bring up Ncuti crying all the time. I wasnt sure if my reaction was mainly because I'm male so gla to know that a woman feels the same. This episode brings up another thing the Doctor hasn't really saved anyone this season. Then The Legend of Ruby Sunday. I actually liked it. To a point anyway. Anticipation of some answers was high. The fact that it seems U.N.I.T is now full of mums and kids instead of being mainly trained professional soldiers is a bit od a gripe. I doubt Kate's dad would approve. Then Sutekh is back! A proper cliffhanger for once. So the stakes are high but then he gets defeated by a rope around his kneck! As for Ruby's mum shes just an ordinary person. So much for that! So all in all, I'm giving this series 4 out of 10.

after hearing Russell T Davis was coming back, I was so excited and I expected this new season to be on par with his previous era, but I feel like I've been duped as it feels way closer to chibnalls era, the era which turned me off the show. the writing is SO sloppy, so much so that I'd bet real money that half of these were first draft scripts. the scripts quality along side the fewer episode count really killed this season for me, I'd honestly rank it 5/10 as its not bad per say, just incredibly disappointing. I'm not expected much from season 2 either since they've already been filmed so criticism would not have been taken into account which is a real shame.

I might have to disagree with your opinion about being confronted about his race, gender or sexuality, but you haven't seen the 60th specials yet where he most definitely is. Having said that, Doctor who has had no problem having digs at men for the last 5 or 6 series. Historically he may not have those issues, but in modern day, he will and it's grim to see as it's not from a storytelling perspective, it seems to shamefully be from a writer's perspective. 😬 Enjoyed your review though. He did cry way too much 😂 After seeing the cringe Harriet Arbinger plot, I was wondering when Alan Pocalypse would make an appearance 😂 I think Russell has either lost his touch or perhaps we are all a bit prepared for his style of writing this time. Dialogue was so poo and the ending was sooooo bad. Just remember when you have kids to pop on a cloak and go point at a Give Way sign 😂 Nice upbeat video ❤

Imagine if it was even implied that the doctor went around jumping from planet to planet looking for Rogue before Sutekh made an appearance. Then they wouldn't have to say that Sutekh had been there since Tom Baker. The fact that the doctor had been jumping around space and time so much for his search would make the death trail magnitudal enough and they could've said that Sutekh boarded the tardis during wild blue yonder or smth which would explain why Susan has only been noticed throughout this season. I think if the demise of everything was directly tied to the doctor's determination to save someone he allowed himself to have a connection with, it would have a massive impact on him and the audience witnessing his anger. This would also explain why Sutekh decided to show himself now as opposed to it being completely random after 40 or so years of television

You could trivially justify a musical episode of Doctor who. The tardis has telepathic translation. They land in a city that has its own universal translator covering it. Feedback loop ensues, and they have to untangle the mess before it fries everybody's brain. There's an episode. No magic, gods, or fairy circles required.

Like you, I was over the moon when RTD was announced as returning and I liked NCuti Gatwa’s in Sex Education so I absolutely believed this would be the Golden Age of Doctor Who part 2 (the 1st Golden Age being RTD’s first round when we also had Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures and the amazing Season 4 Who finale with all 3 series crossover! There was no doubt in my mind it would be spectacular! Sadly I was very mistaken. And the biggest culprit is the thing I had absolutely zero concern about: RTD’s writing! Whereas RTD has always seemed a genius with his writing, easily mixing sound, logical Sci Fi with powerful emotions and real characters; aspects that sadly are missing from most sci fi and especially the past few series of Who. But this series is an utter mess. Logic is non-existent, rules are arbitrary and tend to be the “because I said so, but for this scene only” style rules. What is a show stopper in one scene can literally be solved by a sudden realization and a line of techno babble in the next. Doctor Who is no longer “Sci Fi” as there is no Science whatsoever, no logic, no adherence to the real world and the “fiction” aspect has become pure Fantasy but not anything coherent or meaningful; it truly smacks of poorly written fantasy fiction. As someone else said, it is like a bad AI version of RTD wrote all of this series and RTD was distracted or recuperating or in a coma somewhere. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING makes sense. It looks good enough, most of the time, (I do NOT think Sutekh looks impressive, the Helmeted motionless being was infinitely more effective than a CGI space jackal that can move…but doesn’t for some reason, just staying wrapped around the TARDIS before being chucked back into the Vortex to defeat him…despite him hanging around the TARDIS in the vortex being the way he achieved his evolution into a god to start with. It’s all utter bollocks. I dont know what happened to RTD between his first stint on WHo and this one - but it’s like comparing a true talent to someone who suffered significant head trauma and resulting severe neurological deficits. Please RTD give the writing duties to others before the series dies. I fully expect Disney to drop their funding or rather not renew it for S3. The production looks mostly great, the acting is mostly solid, it absolutely comes down to the writing or lack thereof.

I have lots of different feelings about the season. I mostly agree with your lineup (don't like 73 Yards as much, but that's a minor quibble), and I'm very guarded for the next season. I don't entirely hate that Ruby's mother was a nobody, but the writing didn't justify why she was so mysterious. Rose Tyler was a nobody until she broke the TARDIS. Donna Noble was a nobody until she caused a metacrisis. Clara Oswald was a nobody until she jumped into the Doctor's time stream. Linda should have at least been the plaything of one of the gods to justify why various investigators couldn't learn anything about her unless you broke the rules of time and space. As for enduring the Chibnill era, I'd be kind of interested to see you review it, but having endured the first series of his, I wouldn't inflict that on anyone unless they really wanted to.

Its always something random like the magic bungie cord is just so good at fixing it can drag around the god of death that spent thousands if not millions of years gaining strength and then destroying all life on earth. Or how the mom reveal was so built up and then it was just because it was important to ruby? Like the premise of 73 yards is so fascinating and yet, even though i love a mystery, there is no clues as to what the real answer is. So many interesting premises thrown away due to lazy writing.

On the Dot and Bubble "race" episode, wouldn't it have been ten times more effective in the battle against racism to simply write a black doctor throughout the series as capable, strong, reeking with integrity, gravitas and wisdom, instead of a dancing, promiscuous, emotionally unstable, ineffective twonk? I think the musical number was an after effect. that's the takeaway I got. like with the toymaker you "win a prize", with the god of music "random musical", etc. there's always a by-product after effect that goes with that gods theme. with empire of death and the death of suetkh, I got the implication that the whole universe is back and reborn. Suetkh fixed the Flux. its there. Maybe theres a new galifrey.

@@sianirl yeah. theres been some things like that, I noticed. However with Sex Ed over and Ncuti hopefully having more time for Doctor Who, i think we'll have alot more doctor focus episodes next season.

I enjoyed your take. I also like that we get your opinions as they happen and your guesses as to what might happen later in this video. Well Done. I didn't enjoy 73 yards at all. Such a great premise delivered so disappointingly. I did hear someone say it's like a David Lynch film. If you enjoy his stuff (I don't) you are more likely to accept the unexplained weirdness in here.

I obviously still had a lot of criticism of the 73 yards episode, but I think when I was reflecting back on all of them I realised it was the one I was most invested in while watching it, I really wanted to see what happened and how Ruby dealt with everything. Admittedly it may be my favourite of a bad bunch 😂

Such a surface level analysis; misunderstanding the core concepts of the film. Also, it's not a twist, it's a reveal, hence the name of the film. So many people seem to have a hard time understanding the film when it's really pretty simple.

You're only a fan of 21st century-Who/Casanova-Who/plagiarism-who, aka cringe-who, hence why you are indifferent about the original show & Jodie's tenure - not cringe enough for you. Saying that something is or isn't "in-character" for the Doctor is laughable. The Dr is an eccentric, magniloquent asexual Timelord, all the Nu-hu incarnations are the opposite of that. It's funny how blind Brits are to American cultural imperialism. The musical numbers are so obviously a Disney addition, but Brits will never come to that conclusion, bc if they had the capacity to notice that, it'd compromise their passive absorption of American culture. Like how, weird example but, no Brit noticed that they mentioned "pee" several times in this season (for some reason) which is the American word for "wee", if anyone even remembers. Brits subconsciously want to be lobotomised by American media. Btw, the "racism" in Dot & Bubble was fantasy-racism. That's not at all how racism manifests itself. Chibnall introduced a lot of historical female characters who kids would probably not be familiar with, which is more effective, progressive activism than just race-swapping white historical figures, like RTD has been doing. You don't know why they only have 8 episodes a season? Have you been living in a hole? You never noticed that modern American shows typically only have 8 episodes a season? It's the same reason this season is called "season 1". New audiences aren't going to commit to an old, long show nowadays. They want to watch 8-hour movies & perhaps an 8-hour sequel, hence why no Disney+ original show goes on longer than 2 seasons, & the average Netflix show only goes on for two seasons. I've never subscribed to American streaming services, & even I know that. And no, the shorter season length has got nothing to do with budget/production values, obviously lol

Don't worry, the Brits are fully aware of the amerification of it all. Just didn't want to attribute all criticisms to an entire nation! The execs and producers all had their decisions to make and doctor who has a huge American audience now so they are obviously catering to both. Also Brits say pee 😂 a very specific point to pick out haha

The Doctor is just a child. Or a bipolar guy. Go to therapy, please. And don't show us your weird Bridgerton adventures.
