When you think about it, the one who survives at the end was a genuinely good guy. It was his brother who tied the rope which killed Hugh Jackmans wife. He was kind and innocent throughout the entire film aside from the final kill.

So, at the same time The Prestige came out, there was another mystical movie with Edward Norton called The Illusionist, why not give that a watch instead?

Depends on what you want in a movie. The concept of duplicating one's self opens a Pandora's box of existentialist questions. The Hugh Jackman surviving at the end was the one who, just out of shear luck (50/50 chance), appeared in the audience. Every time before doing the trick, he had no idea whether he would be the one to die. It also demonstrated just how twisted of a character he was; I mean, consider the moral implications. It's not scientifically possible. Who cares? If you want a logical plot, sure whatever: it's a bad twist. If you want something thought-provoking with artistic merit, it was the perfect twist. Don't watch Nolan if you don't value the latter.

Thank you! I couldn't remember the name of this film. I watched it as a kid and didn't understand what was going on, and since then I occasionally remember traumatising scenes 😅

Was the Robert that fell in the tank aware that he was going to die before doing the trick? I’m very glad i’ve not watched it, but I have lots of questions

I think in his mind it was like he never knew if he would be in the tank or in the crowd, it is confusing

Fallon is such an interesting name. It was the characters last name though, Bernard Fallon. I had to look it up as there is a KZreadr named Farron, and I thought Fallon could be Farron mispronounced. Good movie. David Bowie looks amazing in this movie. I did not recognize him at all.

Such a surface level analysis; misunderstanding the core concepts of the film. Also, it's not a twist, it's a reveal, hence the name of the film. So many people seem to have a hard time understanding the film when it's really pretty simple.
