CAA Lifestyle

CAA Lifestyle

My name is Chabely. I'm a board Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant with a masters of science in anesthesia providing a glimpse into the CAA lifestyle.

A little about me:
I am a NYC native who always had an interest in medicine and pharmacology. I was heavily considering medical school and specializing in anesthesia until I learned more about advance practice providers in anesthesia. I graduated with my masters of medical science in anesthesia in 2021 and have worked two jobs since then as a board certified anesthesiologist assistant. I hope to raise more awareness about this awesome profession through this content. Outside of anesthesia, I am passionate about financial literacy and independence. I also love traveling and have a love/hate relationship with the gym.

    What is the top of these carriers? Is it CAA or CRNA?

  • @CAALifestyle

    They’re two different pathways to working as an anesthesia provider without going to medical school! CAAs and CRNAs work alongside each other but CRNAs also can work independently in some settings.

    @@CAALifestyle so it means crna is better..I watched some shorts of your channel. Since I am unfamiliar with the terms of your country or abroad I might say, it's a little bit hard to comprehend. That's why I was asking about this. Can a nurse become a CAA as well ?

  • @CAALifestyle

    @@kdrama_enthusiast-h7z it would have been a much longer route for myself and other premeds to go through the nursing pathway to become a CRNA, so for a lot of people CAA is a better fit. It depends on the individual’s circumstances. Both are anesthesia providers and both are paid extremely well. And yes nurses have become CAAs!

    Hey sis! I just wanna know about something about nursing. Actually due to my unexpected lower results of my A/l s, I guess i would be chosen for nursing for my higher studies. After a little investigation, i found this field really interesting. But i wanted to follow molecular biology earlier and be a person whk discovers drugs( idk what is it called). I want to know whether there is a probability of engaging in such a field after completing my nursing degree?

    Wow, that’s amazing🙏🏾! Good job to you guys! Happy for the patient!! So, it is possible to work as an AA and take emergency cases ? Does this require extra training or is this something that is taught in the program? Thank you!

    As a student my classmates and I rotated through hospitals and were exposed to many surgery types. CAAs are trained to do emergency cases. I worked call on week nights and weekends as a student which helped prepare me for when I was doing it at work! Also in one of the hospitals I rotated at (as a student) I picked up extra call opportunities because I thought I was going to work there and wanted to get as much exposure as I could to what call would be like in that hospital.

    True story from when I worked from 7 AM - ~1 AM because I was the anesthetist on call that day. While on call I was responsible for providing anesthesia for emergent surgeries after 7 PM. However we were short staffed that day, and so I stayed in the hospital to cover the anesthesia needs past my shift until the last surgery was done and the patient was in the recovery room. The last surgery this day was to treat a patient who had developed a blood clot in their lower back. The patient had recently had spinal surgery and was lifting heavy objects at home. The patient ended up developing a blood clot in their lower back that was causing them to lose feeling in their legs. They needed surgery (and anesthesia care) ASAP to remove the blood clot that was compressing on their spinal nerves. Despite it being very late, the anesthesia and surgical team rallied and provided the patient with the care they needed that day.

    Hi that was a very interesting video. I am allergic to succinylcholine, I found this out after they saw my eyes were not opening after the anesthesia was wearing off. I was a little concern when I could hear my surgeon telling me they were going to give me a needle and my eyes should open up so they can take the tubes out of my throat which I was gaging on them. Do a lot of patients that you see have this also? Thank you David

  • @CAALifestyle
    @CAALifestyle12 күн бұрын

    Succinylcholine (a paralytic) usually wears off quickly unless someone has a pseudocholinesterase deficiency! In those cases patients metabolize the medication slower, which can explain an inability to open one’s eyes. I hope you feel better after your experience and I hope this information helps.

    The anesthesia care team (ACT) is used across the United States as a way to increase a patient’s access to safe anesthetic care. Medical school and residency trained physicians typically direct or supervise CAAs and CRNAs across 4 operating rooms. In critical or life-threatening circumstances, a patient has access to two anesthesia providers to deliver life saving anesthestic care.

    Congratulations… but she looks older than 40. I’m glad she is doing what makes her happy, but we all need to ask what is worth it for us, I don’t know if working 60 hours or more is what is making her look older and overweight. It’s really worth it to sacrifice our health for it? But again, she is living the lifestyle she likes, I just mean that is not for everyone. And maybe instead of college funds her kids would rather more quality time? I don’t know, each family is different right.

Respiratory therapists go over mechanical ventilation in far more depth than what is required for anesthesia. So by being proficient in aspects of anesthesia before you even go to that program. it makes the program less stressful and more enjoyable.

    I disagree with the implication that introverts don’t have social skills. Introversion vs extraversion is not a matter of social skills. In fact, your comments about needing to go home and recharge after interacting with people all day is the classic definition of an introvert. Extraverts are energized by interacting with people and don’t need their quiet time like introverts.

  • @CAALifestyle
    @CAALifestyle26 күн бұрын

    Introverts absolutely have social skills. I’ve come across prospective applicants and shadowers that very quiet and seem to prefer less social interaction, so I want people to be aware that this is a very social job before committing to a career in this profession.
