Awesome video as usual!! I would add that getting involved in management within an Anesthesia Group is also a possibility, especially in some smaller groups.

Thank you, Omar! Very true. Hope all is well!
"A lot of tissue in the neck" is the polite way of saying a fatty neck.
Can you talk about special considerations for patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

There's an anesthesia app with Vargo that covers coexisting diseases, I would check that out.
I'm curious about what's the usual as to who makes decisions about the patient. Is the "unique circumstance" you spoke of because you never really have to check in with an anesthesiologist, or because you actually got a chance to make the decision? Are CAAs supposed to decide whether or not the patient receives a blood transfusion?
@CAALifestyle

A transfusion involves a collaborative decision-making process. In other aspects of a patient's care, such as treating blood pressures or relieving pain, I am granted the responsibility to make decisions.
Great. So you can ask for help if you need it right? Specially during the first times when you are fresh out of college? Also, it seem like there is a lot of procedures, do you guys have like a cheat sheet to be able to remember all the steps?

Help is available from my attendings to my anesthetist colleagues. I recommend shadowing if you are interested!
How often do you feel you have to manage risky and fear-inducing situations? Do CAAs confront challenging situations that could be career ending with some regularity, or better stated, are situations like these regularly a concern? Do you have much of an option to work where this is not the case, or is it inevitable? Thanks!

Anesthesia is known to be chill for a majority of the time, but it's also filled with spikes in adrenaline and intensity for example: managing a difficult airway like I mention in this video. There are varying levels of acuity depending on where someone works.
Hi Chabely, I have a question: do you have downtime during your shifts or is it variable?

What does the work-life balance (if any) look like in school? I have 3 children and aging parents ho need me. It sounds like there really is no time for anything outisde of school - is that accurate?

I don't know if you've covered this topic already but how do you handle workplace hostility from other healthcare professionals especially MDs on the job?

Great question. I will cover this in the future but where I work a majority of my coworkers are nice.

I have heard that most of the hostility is by CRNAs, not anesthesiologists.
Can I ask a question as a patient? I'm a nurse and had never heard of a CAA until I had a lumbar decompression surgery by a complex spine surgeon in a teaching hospital 3 years ago. I had 3 hours of anesthesia. I understand you work under the direction of the anesthesiologist, Is the anesthesiologist in the OR during intubation? I only met her at the last surgery a few minutes prior to my surgery. I noticed in my records it said attempts at intubation ? 2. I thought that was odd as you would know how many attempts at intubation were tried. I'm only concerned as I'm having a very big C spine fusion and corpectomy in 10 days. I have moderate white matter disease and I'm scared, I don't know if I'm a difficult intubation. I don't know how to approach it when anesthesia comes in prior to surgery. I met no one during my pre-op appointment. I have other medical problems and was classified as an ASA 3 at the last surgery. I'm having surgery at a different location and different physician. Are there any questions I should ask when I meet the anesthesiologist?

This is not medical advice. I would communicate concerns with the anesthesia care team! After they assess you in person, they may have better answers. Good luck with your surgery :)
How does one get into CAA academics? What qualifications beside the MSc is required? Thanks

As far as I know someone has to apply to a job posting for teaching. I’ve heard programs prefer 3 years of experience prior to teaching!
It's very helpful video. I am from Nepal and want to do anesthesiologist assistant in USA. Can I do this course?

The issue with the article you proposed is that it is highly biased. It is written by an anesthesiologist who seems quite partial towards other anesthesia providers. I’d love to see an article that is published from an unbiased source that depicts the safety of anesthesia providers.
