The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) is an inter-disciplinary research centre at the heart of the European University Institute (EUI).

It was established in 1992 to complement the four disciplinary departments that make up the European University Institute (EUI) with the vocation of being involved in both basic and policy research, collaborating with other centres of excellence in Europe, providing opportunities for young scholars and promoting dialogue with the world of practice.

Over time these goals have progressively focused into a number of core areas such as the institutions, governance and democracy of the European Union, migration studies, economic and monetary policy, competition and market regulation, energy policy and so on.

2016 and I'm the first to comment. So how's Ireland doing now? Whatever happened to the Billions of punts (Irish pounds) worth of gold handed over to the EU when Ireland joined? Britain likewise, but it gave more. Why is "Billions" required for the "Peace Process" and where, or to whom did it go? And if Ireland is so sensitive to its EU neighbours, why did it let the Clintons take over and corrupt the Irish political arena?

Funny how Stefaan is so optimistic that he says there will be policy competition in the coming years between the UK and the EU. In 2024 they have not been able to implement even UKCA or UK REACH. Brussels Effect making life difficult, it appears.

Anand. You are so wrong and feel that you are part of the ‘it’s complex machine’ if you distil the actual deliverables and decisions made from the Theatrics and drama then it is an incredibly simple process. It takes 25,000 civil servants to change a lightbulb in this country let alone do Brexit. You know this right? So you are also adding to the drama I’m afraid

Values divide: most socially conservative more than 8 times more likely to have voted leave than most socially liberal.

Article 50 is the EU’s own process of leaving. We had to adhere to it. It is eu law. Despite these people in the video and other high profile remain elite constantly pushing the argument that Brexit has failed no one else is listening. It is working, we are changing and improving. The NHS already gets more than the figure on the bus, google NHS annual budgets and work out the weekly figure.

Brexit is a process, not an event. There are so many eu laws and regulations to overcome. It was ingrained into every aspect of daily life. I have never met anyone who regrets voting leave. The people in this video are in a bubble, all like minded. I am very pleased we are now the only genuine fully democratic sovereign country in the whole of Western Europe. Even Norway and Switzerland are eu rule takers. From the covid vaccination programme, to AUKUS, to free trade deals / pacific trade group, to our response to the Russian threat to invade Ukraine. The UK forced the eu by example to support Ukraine. Germany would not even let uk military aid fly over its airspace it was that bad.

He says that becoming a minority in our own countries is our destiny and the greatest challenge of this century. The greatest duty and challenge for us europeans is to survive and to build new societes. Such scientists are decadent and weak creatures. They can only talk, talk, talk and take our money for their destructive and useless work. Actually they accept our extinction, our extermination.

There’s a serious misapprehension by the government of the United Kingdom and other European countries and also the USA and other western countries that Russia will capitulate. This is very wrong and very dangerous! We agreed not to encroach upon upon Russian areas or near Russian areas. We all lied and should withdraw IMMEDIATELY that would end the conflict and save thousands of innocent lives! Let’s not sleepwalk into even greater danger and ultimately DISASTER!

No we did not promise anything like that. It's a lie Putin uses, but which has been even refuted by Russians who were in the room. However, Russia did sign an agreement securing Ukraine's independence and security in exchange for getting the nukes back.

This is a whacky debate, especially the way the 'experts' treat public opinion in the EU. It's like they're a junior HR department languidly discussing how best to handle unwanted gig workers. The British guy's take on Russia's invasion of Ukraine at 1:11:30 is beyond baffling. He's either ill-informed or disingenuous.

To have a real direct democracy, citizens should vote on issues - not people. There are an infinite number of issues to vote on. To make a dent in those issues, we must have an honest and fast voting system. Voting should be done electronically by phone, web, and phone app using open source servers. We MUST have a method to determine if the voters are citizens of the jurisdiction they are voting in and that they only vote in a single district. Those citizens should be able to vote quickly and be able to instantly see that their vote was recorded properly and to instantly total all votes as they happen. Propositions should be proposed by anyone by posting a bill. The N most popular propositions (based on online polls) should come up for a vote - i.e. complete and instant transparency. The voting system should give both pro and con arguments a limited public space that people could read, watch, or listen to prior to voting. To institute a law should require a 2/3 majority to enact or a 1/3 minority to repeal - that way there will be solid agreement that the law is really necessary. How do we get there? 1. Design the online/phone voting system that is easy and quick to use, publish the source code, and implement it. 2. Create a not-for-profit organization to promote it by allowing existing representatives to use it to see what their constituents really want. 3. Use the not-for-profit org to promote representatives that use the system and vote according to their constituents wishes - regardless of party. Eventually, if it works well, representatives will have to join the system to be credible. 4. At some point, the representative will not be necessary and we can use direct democracy instead.

We are being censored in every way Disclose to as many people as possible for freedom I am from the poorest northeast region of Brazil where left-wing politicians dominate the people, giving crumbs in exchange for votes and the people remain in poverty The new government has balanced our economy and those placed by the PT governments are in charge of the Superior Electoral Court. So sad ; so very sad I have been a student of European Political Philosophy over the.past 50 years and it is very sad to be witness to this degeneration of the European Intellectual Tradition.Evidently no one on the panel is familiar with the various schools of Political Philosophy of the 19 century nor with the high level intellectual debate.
