  Thank you SO much!! This series is PERFECT for me. I can sing and read in Yiddish, but find it very difficult to understand spoken Yiddish and to converse. I've been looking for an online course for ages.🙏😃

  I understand most of it. I consider myself a beginner but maybe I am an intermediate. I don’t understand how to access to vocabulary. Maybe someone can explain. It’s nice that it is also written out although I usually just listen. I took classes during Covid via Zoom but I no longer wish to dedicate a specific time to this. W can listen to Proste Yiddish whenever I wish.

  @@ProsteYiddish how do I get to the transcript? Yesterday I listened to a podcast that had quite a bit of vocab that I didn’t know- unusual. I suppose it was vocab pertinent to the particular topic. You asked if anyone would like to be a guest. I could tell you about my experience speaking with Russian Jews in Yiddish in the synagogue in Moscow. It was definitely Proste Yiddish. My mother used the word “Proste” often. Probably that what drew me to your podcast, that and were have the same name in Yiddish. My mother spelled my name Esta because she never heard anyone pronounce it any other way.

  Sholem-Aleykhem! I am a graduate student of U.S. history in Japan and studying Yiddish for myself. Just today I was studying about Rose Schneiderman in a university lecture, so I was surprised and happy that the topic came up.🤭(Oops, no spoiler?) I always listen to it to learn Yiddish. There are subtitles, which are very helpful. Looking forward to your podcast from now on!

  I speak "klal shprakh", which is a standardised Yiddish taught in the Yiddish schools for about 90 years and taught in most universities and courses today. It's also the language most common in my Yiddish community in Melbourne, Australlia. We try to feature guests who speak other dialects as often as we can!

  THANK YOU so much Esther for making these videos. By being able to see the Yiddish words as you spoke - I was able to understand MUCH MORE than I could when only listening to the podcast. This truly helps TREMENDOUSLY to be able to see the words AS you speak - with KZread making it EASY to stop the video, and replay the last 10 seconds any time I needed to. - א גרויסן דאנק !!!! - 😊

  Zeyer interesant! What are the titles of the editions you recommended in this episode that are abridged/simplified especially for learners?   Hi, you're right it's not for absolute novices. But people are beginners for quite a while! Of course if you can't understand much Yiddish then any Yiddish podcast is going to be overwhelming. It's for high-beginners/intermediate. Maybe I'll make that clearer in the description, thanks for the reminder

  Hi, thanks for your feedback! The podcast is for Yiddish learners who are looking for more resources to improve their listening. Following along with the transcript can really help with listening comprehension, vocabulary acquisition and spelling. We have considered adding English but as far as research on language learning, it's still unclear if reading subtitles is an effective way to boost acquisition. Though of course you are free to run the transcript through google translate and many listeners do. As for learning to read the Yiddish Alef-Beys, if you need some resources for doing that, let me know - I can point you to some great sources! Maybe I'll even do some videos on that someday. Once you've learned the alphabet following along with the audio will help you to develop reading fluency.
