    All of the cheaper mics have a metalic sound in the 3K range. Easy to tell the difference on his voice. For micing guitar amps you can hear the diaphragm resonating in the top end. You hear the mic, rather than the instrument. This is because they build in resonance on the diaphragm to increase the high freq response. The problem is that you are hearing the high freq sound of the mic, rather the instrument.

    Hardware will always give you organic compression output given the quality of components used on the hardware sans cross-over distortion to get audio onto the computer etc, whereas plugins emulate hardware based on algorithmic values. So hardware, regardless whether it is a clone, home-made, or brand name will always give you quality sound compared to a plugin

    hi sir just out of curiosity i am having motu 896mk3 hybrid using with mac studio and i want to know shall i go for bettermaker limiter 2 or shall i change my audio interface to apollo x8p for professional mixing and mastering

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtkКүн бұрын

    The x8p is a step up in terms of both the analog signal path and conversion vs the 896mk3. I would suggest you will notice the x8p upgrade more so than adding the bml2 to your 896mk3 in terms of overall sonic quality. With everything going in and out of your interface, a solid foundation will help you get the most out of any outboard you add later.

    With a lot of reviews of these headphones focusing on the software, I thought I would take a look at the VSX headphones as they are, no software to shape the sound. My goal here is to provide an idea of what these headphones are like if you need to use them on a system that doesn't support the software. The software is without a doubt a powerful tool, but when I think long term, I always come back to how the hardware performs on its own. I hope this helps out! Cheers, Todd.

I tested them with a number of free plugins as well as several from UA, SSL, Izotope, SD, and others. Cheers!

    Having worked with both, there are positives and negatives with each in terms on onboard effects, but in terms of pure tube drive, the DBX offers a wider range of "usable" saturation control imo. Nobody on KZread has ever explained patchbays to where a 12 year old can understand in 5 minutes. They just think they have. “Through” is always simple. “Normal/half normal?” Thats where everyone drifts. (It’s not the guys that get it immediately that count.) Can the signal from input 1/2 go out through every other output simultaneously ? Can 8 outputs of a drum machine go to 8 inputs of a bay and be summed to output 1/2? Is that what patchbays do? If so I’m buying one. In the comments in patchbay videos, guaranteed you’ll hear somebody say “oh I finally get it…!” Which means most people don’t. What is it about these things that are so complicated to understand? It’s just rudimentary I/O.

    Isnt it better to use a lav mic with an xlr connector? Any recommendations for the same? This is for a teaching environment and i record my offline classes and upload them online.

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtk3 күн бұрын

    The connector is less important than the microphone capsule and cable. High end lav mics are often available with a variety of connectors to suit different use cases (Sennheiser for example) or with interchangeable connectors such as those found on DPA lavs. If you are looking for a lav that will provide broadcast quality sound, the Sennheiser MKE 2 at about $400usd and the DPA 4060 at about $500usd are great choices (and are what pros widely use in live productions). Both are available with a choice of connectors. To be sure, these are both pricey, but if you are recording classes that will be hosted on an LMS for considerable time, the investment may be worth it. Hope this helps out!

    I likely don't need an external preamp, but I love the EQ sound of a Neve 1073. However the WA-73 EQ isn't a true 1073; it has one input transformer instead of two, only two inductors instead of three. And these inductors don't look like the ones used in a real 1073.

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtk4 күн бұрын

    If you’re looking for an “authentic” hardware recreation of the original 1073, the BAE follows the original architecture as well as I’ve seen and some would argue, better than current Neve offerings. In the end though, when it comes to nuances between the sound of one to another with analog gear, if you can, nothing beats auditioning the one you could actually purchase. Reminds me of working on consoles years ago where some channels just sounded better on certain instruments or vocals and those were the ones we used…

  • @user-gh9iw1of2y

    @@askdrtk Thank you for your reply. No, I'm not looking for an "authentic" hardware recreation. The only true authentic recreations are from AMS Neve, specifically their classic vintage modules. No matter how good BAE is, it will always be a clone. If I wanted to buy a good clone, I would choose the AML 1073ez, as it is very faithful to the original architecture-wise and costs significantly less than BAE.

I was looking for a decent one to use with my Genos keyboard, both for just listening while playing as well as monitoring when recording keyboard and microphone on the keyboard. For me the Sennheisers in this price region where for me lacking in the mid.high range and I feel these OneOdio Monitor 60's suit my hearing needs well. The direct headphone to binaural microphone tests where an ear-opener :-) And yes, this afternoon I think I watched over ten reviews so you were doing a darn good job for me. After my Sennheiser HD569's started peeling, I'm looking at either buying some new ones, or exploring new horizons. 1. Would you recommend these over the 40x's for rock/heavy metal/desert, for example ? ( I've seen somewhere that the 40's are better than the 50's in general ). 2. Would you stick with the 569's or look elsewhere ? Thank you and keep up the great work !!!

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtk6 күн бұрын

    The 569's are a solid choice for rock, metal, etc - good sound profile and dynamic response, so you won't go wrong replacing them. The 40x's have a profile that is flatter vs the 50x, but the 50x has superior bass extension. I like the midrange of the 40x for rock in particular, but I sometimes find their bass response underwhelming for metal with more demands on the low end. That said, the 50x handle strong transients better than the 40x in my experience, so if you listen at louder volumes, the 50x would be my choice of the two. Hope this helps out!

  • @MetaFootballTV
    @MetaFootballTV6 күн бұрын

    @@askdrtk Thanks so much for your detailed response to my question. Out of the 569's or the 50X...which would you recommend? Cheers.

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtk4 күн бұрын

    I perceive the 50x to have a more “powerful” sound vs the 569 if that makes sense lol… The closest analogy I can make is the difference between listening to a a great full range car sound system vs an equally great one with bigger subs and some high-end tweeters. Clarity could be the same, but the “feeling” is different. One other consideration I hadn’t mentioned is that the 50x have considerably less room inside the earcups vs the 569’s. This is not an issue for everyone, but can be important for long sessions. If it’s me and I enjoyed the sound of the 569’s, that’s where I would stay. If you find the low end a bit lacking on the 569, the 50x will give you that but at the expense of some mid-forward clarity that sounds so good on rock. I use HD600 as my primary mixing headphones, not because they’re the best available, but because I know them well and can make good critical listening decisions…(Boring I know, but I’m on my 4th set).

    What about EQing headphones to reduce or remove the muddy sounds and bleeding like on the HD 599?

  • @askdrtk
    @askdrtk3 күн бұрын

    Whether or not EQ will help with headphones depends on the drivers themselves. EQ while mixing helps clean up mud because it allows for space to be made for all instruments without overwhelming specific frequency ranges, but if a headphone's drivers are incapable of reproducing certain frequencies, or lack the ability to reproduce the required detail, EQ will not be able to compensate. If however there is a problematic frequency that is bleeding, EQ can help by cutting that range much in the same way feedback suppression works for PA's in live venues. Hope this helps out!

    The difference will not be night and day, but the Lewitt does offer improved clarity.
