First thanks for the in depth review. Your review echoed my experiences. I have 2 of these. Since then I moved to an ART Pro Channel. One unit was quite cheap since the owner had lost the wall wart and substituted a DC output wall wart. The phantom power and tube anode voltage power supply uses a voltage tripler, so it needs the 16 volts to be AC. He thought it didn't work, I took a chance and the solution was simple. The meter lamps gave me trouble so I substituted the smallest "grain of rice" I could find. I can't remember the number though. The reason the pots feel solid is they are nutted to the front panel as well as soldered to the PCB. You have to remove a lot of nuts and screws to get the PCB out. Presonus is not very good at helping to diagnose simple problems such as identifying the value of a broken ceramic capacitor. If you break it you are going to have to figure the solution yourself. The voltrage on the 12AX7 is low, about 45 volts, so the tube colors the sound differently than using the proper voltage. That is why I switched to the Pro Channel, it uses 180 volts (I think) unless you turn off the high voltage. Still, the Presonus is very versatile, I learned a lot using it.

I love that you took the time to thoroughly review a much older, budget-friendly piece of gear. I tracked my entire first album with a pair of these years ago and finished the album off in the box. It all sounded GREAT when finished! Would love for you to review the new ART Solo MPA and VLA units!

Great video.!. I purchased a like new looking studio channel and very quickly discovered it was noisey due to faulty cheap capacitors (low level Crackling), during the trouble shooting process I swapped out the tube-drive valve with a electro-harmonix 12ax7eh, and that gave the tube-drive a brighter saturation, and yes there are lots of more expensive valve too..!

Sometimes a re-cap is the best thing you can do (to used and new gear). I've had some good luck with EH tubes...I've swapped in 7025s for 12ax7 in a few preamps...been reliable and no audio issues.

Great video, that's one of my favorite channels! I'm having a problem when using my Studio Channel with my microphone Rode NT1A. I get a horrible and loud noise, which makes the Studio Channel unusable. I don't have this problem when using the microphone Shure SM7B, neither when I connect the Rode mic directly to the interface (using the same cables). Apparently there's a problem with the combination "Studio Channel + Rode NT1A". I even bought a power conditioner to try to solve the problem, but it was of no avail. I also changed the Studio Channel tube, but the noise is still there.

I agree on those wall wort power adapters. I realize it costs more (and requires space) to build a quiet internal power supply with proper shielding for interference, but I sure wish all gear had standard IEC power cords and proper grounds… Cheers!

Hi Todd! I would like to see you run audio tests on a pair of Sony headphones known as the MDR-1AM2. Sony claims that the MDR-1AM2's exclusive 40mm HD aluminum-coated liquid crystal polymer drivers deliver "clear, lively sound, especially on mid to high tones" and that they also reproduce a "smooth, precise response across the entire frequency range." I would love to see you review these headphones and see if they really are worth the marketing hype. Thanks again for the great and awesome audio content!

If you're asking about 2Bus use, I could never get them to operate as a stereo unit. I'm probably doing something wrongly. But I've upgraded to a 7721 Chameleon Labs for 2Bus use and an Xpressor for drum bus. If you can get them to work as a stereo unit, that would be super cool. But I couldn't.@@adrianphillips2999

You would generally need an audio interface with a line input. You could connect it to the input on your onboard audio, but a dedicated audio interface will provide higher audio quality as its input will be balanced.
