I know you do not do a lot of videos. I wish someone would do a video on how to use the frequency memory editor software on the KX series of radios. Nothing on youtube about this software at all.

I just did the upgrade. I opted for method 2 with the SBC but I disconnected the easy connectors like the RJ45, HDMI and two USB plugs. It made it easier to manage. But I was careful to not stress the other connectors. I had a small scare with the KDDC4 not sitting plumb but I figured it out. I also confirmed I did not have the lock washers on the LPA so I installed as directed. Thanks for thinking ahead to include the two extra screws. de NY4I

Just amazing user interface on the K4. Outstanding job done. Real professional engineers who understand their business developed this. Everything looks balanced and reads great. Font sizes, colors, button placement, all interface elements - everything is great. I have to admit, ICOM are a little annoying in this regard.

We do not offer an internal K4 WiFi option at this time as WiFi is a constantly evolving standard, with new protocols being added frequently. What we and our customers use to get the K4 onto WiFi is a small, low-cost WiFi to ethernet adapter. Yikes, seems better to buy it as a factory install option at the very beginning. You're already paying a lot of money to buy the K4/10 or K4/100....just pay the extra and get what your think you will ultimately want/need.

You're right - if you're upgrading your K4 to a K4D, you should wear an anti-static wrist strap. Both Elecraft employees in the video are wearing blue anti-static wrist straps.

At 3:25 I could not help but notice the clever double use of the food containers bottom portion to contain the screws but allow very easy access at the same time when they are reinstalled. Very smart use of resources.

Good information - if I can understand but the horrible audio is frustrating. The AGC is maddening at times reducing the audio to near zero while other times the gain is a bit strong. Also the acoustics of the room is a problem. Sure would be nice to have a new recording that we can understand.🤐 Great radio KX3. I have had mine for several years and about 5-yrs ago added the PX3. Please make a new video and before releasing it listen to ensure it is intelligible. Bob - W6OPO 🤐

Marvelous video, Dave! Thank you for regaling us with the history of the venerable K-2. I built and own K-2 #999 from a kit back in 1998. I kept mine as a QRP radio and is loaded with the second/160m module, SSB, tuner, etc. It's been on countless FDs where it has performed flawlessly. From my cold, dead hands, Dave! Looks like a great transceiver ! I don't believe it has a similar cw bar graph tuning indicator that the K3 has. It would be nice as it is a great, quick visual way of zero-beating a cw signal. I know it has auto-zero beat ( as most all transceivers do now ) and the mini-pan indicator but a var graph is really nice. Maybe this feature can be added in firmware update. 🙂

Man, if I only had 5k to blow on a new toy. It's a 7300 for me. I wonder why Elecraft doesn't try to compete with Icom by making a reduced feature set of that radio at the 7300 price point? It really seems like a no brainer to me. They could even use similar architecture to save on development costs but lock out features with firmware so that you don't buy a lower cost radio to get the higher-end features.

These size companies have a very hard time taking their business to the next level as they would have to restructure their entire business. When founders leave, the business limps along for awhile, possibly getting bought by another business or they just close their doors. FlexRadio is in the same boat. They don't know how to take their business to the next level. They don't have $1000-$2000 radios, and may never develop those sku's. Also, Elecraft has California blinders on. They are in an area where people easily throw $10k at a hobby. Ultimately it comes down to if the product cost too much, making a company go BK or does the product cost too little, losing money on each unit sold. Yes many businesses operate like that, living on investor money, until they go BK.

I didn't see a mic used in this demo, but on the Elecraft K4 Ham Expo Presentation 3/12/22, the silver mic that Eric is using is an Electrovoice 638 Microphone. It was sold by Heathkit. Unfortunately, they no longer sell the mic.

Bought and built my K2 in 1999...took a month to build and debug. Great CW radio, very disappointed SSB phone radio, transmit audio never compared to the Japanese hf rigs....... 73/K6SDW

Eric, long time Elecraft fan. I have heard that the A/D converter is the same as the Icom 7610. I believe the 7610 has 2 of those A/D converter. I am a believer in Elecraft, but I am wondering what the value add is to sped the extra $$ on the K4 over the Icom this time?

I really like the P3 as a station monitor. I wish Elecraft still built the P3 and the P3TXmon it would make a great station monitor for may hams. Second the K4 keeps getting better and better.
