Great walk and pretty easy going. I did this back in Feb in perfect weather, staying at Central Whirinaki (whio in the nearby river) but as I was ahead of schedule I skipped overnighting at Mangamate. Absolutely beautiful bush and trees. Certainly ended up with clean boots - around Mangamate much of the track was thru/across streams! Highly recommended but next time I'll do the full loop which I know is at another level.
Thanks for the video - it certainly inspired me to go the the Whirinaki Forest Park. Sorry you had disappointing weather - it isn't always like that! I did this loop back in February in perfect conditions. I had planned to continue on to Upper Te Hoe, Mangakahika huts etc on the Te Pua-a-Tāne Circuit but the forecast wasn't great (but frustratingly the bad weather didn't happen at all). After overnighting at the lovely Central Whirinaki hut I planned a second night at Mangamate hut but arrived surprisingly early so just walked out to River Road. That section was mostly in the river - not a problem at all on a warm summer day but I imagine pretty tricky after heavy rain or in the winter. Despite good weather and in February I was surprised not to see another soul, and certainly had the hut to myself. This is one of my favourite North Island places and next time I will definitely do the longer Te Pua-a-Tāne Circuit.
I swear I not even trolling, but my Dad is the guy that boards up the windows. He was telling me about how a bunch of people would sneak in and I decided to search it up this is so fucking funny.
in the 1920s, this place, pandora, was quite a popular place to visit by elites that owned vehicles. believe it or not
a normal kiwi backyard
You should do urbex again
If you want to do these sorts of vids. Show some respect and learn how to pronounce maori words properly. Its a bloody disgrace the way you butcher those beautiful places.
youre a legend. really enjoy your videos
Great video. Very informative. Thanks for doing these!
That van at the beginning. Doubt its a Combi at all. Look up a photo of a CA Bedford - which is what I reckon that van is. I used to have a CA Bedford. It had sliding doors for driver and passenger and hinged doors at the rear. It was no racer, but I wish I still had it today - would be very handy indeed.
where abouts is the first spot its algds if u dont wanna tell me but could you give me a clue like the town or land area its in then i will be able to find it i dont post urbex on this acc so u might be a bit sceptical i can trade u a spot u probs dont know about for that spot in the first clip
The Falcon ute looks like its worth pulling out.
Awesome vids man. What is the track condition like mate?
Cheers mate, the track to Longview was good last time i went pre-cyclone. Think there were slips over the road but all cleared and good to go now as far as I know
As a fellow tramper of many years its great that you have taken the time to share your experiences and promote the simple pleasures of a walk in the great outdoors of enzed. nice one!
Excellent video. Camera was held steady - no quick landscape swing-arounds 🤢 Great map graphics, history and information. I use a similar format for my own videos, so appreciate the work required to produce a product like this. Thank you! 👍
Thanks Jonty for setting such a good example of hut etiquette.
you guys should wear fluro gear you would just look official then if spotted
hello do u know any other spots
Not anymore unfortunately, all the good old spots are gone now
bummer abt the house with a pool inside u went in anothervideo is that still there@@LostKiwi
Most likely, but that's a really risky spot these days
Hey mate, do you reckon a motorhome would be ok getting to the car park? If not do you have any other recommendations for huts around this area that would be accessible for me. Thanks
Hey mate, yeah the mackintosh and lakes carparks would be easy for a motorhome to get to. But I wouldn't recommend the other kaweka carparks up makahu road and whittle road. Cheers
What fun When I was your age we only had buildings that were still in use to explore and the occasional one that was under construction
Hi do you think a motorhome could get up to the car park?
Realistically, no. There's definitely not enough room to park one and the road is steep
@@LostKiwiare there areas to park before and walk up? Cheers
Yeah further back down the road you'll find somewhere 👍
Nice video! Though pre-soak some oats for breakfast don't carry a can of beans, and if you have a long day ahead, get going! - jeez!
Has anyone ever squatted on this land
It was a nice hut and walk undulating following the river fairly easy going and narrow and steep in parts. We went on Easter weekend and the hut was full when we arrived. As the carpark was busy we packed our tent with us so camped out on the clearing. Another group carried onto to Rangiwahia hut bypassing Triangle hut. Great video! Good memories, lucky to get it all to yourself.
Has anyone squared on this land
Has this Land been cleared and taken ownership of in 2023
I just showed this to my 91 year old Mum. She was at the Cape from 1935 until 1945 because they didn't move families around during the war. She loved seeing your video and commented on all the views and old images. It was lovely for her.
Awesome! Glad she enjoyed it, it's such an incredible place with such an interesting history
I guess the cars were once parked there because they had the steerinwheel on the wrong side.😁
Estou assistindo esse vídeo aqui na cidade de Barreiros Pernambuco Brasil parabéns gostei do seu vídeo
It's real sad that all those cool vehicles are left to waste away, cause they really are way cooler than most relatively affordable cars of the last 20yrs
Not sure how I found this but New Zealand has huts that you just walk to and can camp overnight for free? There would be homeless everywhere in the USA.
Keep going! It may be low subs for now but this info is really really good.
The peach cove track was pretty hard I took me and my school 6 hours
Well done. There are lots of stories about the first hut being hunted by a deer culler and his dog.
Hey ya bro. You wouldn’t happen to have this trip in regular time would ya. Growing up, it was always my favourite road trips to travel
Can you do a review of lower hutt
Far out!!!
Amazing video ~ thank you for putting it together.A permanent reminder of the unspeakable damage and devastation...😪
any more hut videos coming in the future?
Yeah mate I'll get back into them soon
I feel extremely sorry for the hawkes bay area. Did you get affected?
The scale of the destruction is unbelievable and i don't think a lot of New Zealand realises how much some parts of the region have changed, hence why I made this video. Thankfully i wasn't affected in Napier, but taradale is extremely lucky the whole suburb wasn't washed away. If the water came a foot higher or if the stop bank hadn't been upgraded 6 months ago, all of Napier would have been flooded just as bad as the other parts
This is were my mum was born
I was born here , thought my mum and grandmother were nutters telling us as kids this place was haunted. Now In my 40s I find out this hospital had the highest rate of deaths in the last 5yrs before it shut down.
Hi, Just a question regarding the track, I was over there on the weekend and went down the track from the car park that crosses over the tutaekuri river with the the hand rail on my right hand side, after crossing over I followed the track for about 200 metres and came across the scree slope, it looks like damage from cyclone Gabriell as the the track just drops away or was it always like this?
Hey mate, definitely sounds like damage from the cyclone but that scree section has always been on the move
@@LostKiwi It looked really steep and I wasn’t keen to cross as I had a heavy pack and rifle , so I went back to the car park up the top which is a quite a decent climb and went home, I’ll have a go from the lakes car park in a few weeks, Thanks for the reply.
@@gdog1443 no worries, I might head there myself soon and check it out. Haven't been tramping since before the cyclone so it's about time. It's good that little bridge is still there
@@LostKiwi quite a lot of damage on the Napier Taihape road but it’s passable, Don’t worry about the resident only and road close signs, There was plenty of cars at the lakes car park on Saturday
@@gdog1443 is the drop a big one?
Music is fab! Anyone know the artist please?
Super helpful video
Awesome, was just studying the Building Code and came across a clause which mentioned these backcountry huts. Interesting watch!
Would love to no if it is all still there to ask permission to take myself and my son for tiki tour We love this kind of stuff
Looks amazing! Got to make my way there next time im up north
randomly came upon this vid in my recommended as i play a bunch of new zealand on geoguessr, i have never had anything like that first round or seen anything like that
Outstanding!
An old man by the name of Wild boit owned it. I brought parts there 15 years ago.
