    Hello there, First of all you may need to get the car scanned for any codes, is the check engine light on? I will try and help the best I can, the ECU is likely using the cam position sensor when you unplug the crank sensor along with longer crank time when you do this, I’m assuming it’s still stalling with crank unplugged? I believe these engines run off a MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) instead of an Air flow meter so maybe worth ensuring that this is clean it will be along the air intake manifold somewhere it could be this that’s giving the wrong information to the ECU but just a guess. When the engine idles is it idling normally? I’m no expert in these but at least there is some things for you to look at. Good luck. Let me know how you get on. Steve.

    Hi Steve, you are progressing well mate and there is nothing wrong with your fabrication work as the area you are working on is quite complex with lots of panels meeting together along with the odd shapes you need to make so don't doubt yourself Steve as it will end up stronger than it was when new, seam seal your joints to keep the wet and rust at bay👌 Looks like you have some new tools mate, that compressed air hole cutter is really handy to have for what you are doing as it saves a lot of drilling the holes for the plug welds and that metal stretcher is nice I didn't know you could get them that small so it's ideal for what you do👏👏thanks Steve👍

    Thank you John, and thanks for the kind words, it looks a bit messy at the moment but i hope to get it all neat as and where i start to put more panels back on, I do have some tiger seal that I hope is still ok, if not I’m going to buy filler that is reinforced with fibre glass as that is supposed to be water proof. Yeah the shrinker stretcher I’ve had for a couple of years now is wanted to show in my videos that you can use other methods like cutting slots into and bending the curve in but i also wanted to use the tools i have to create a neater job. As with he air joggler these are quite expensive even the hand tool isn’t much cheaper they both do the same thing just the air powered one is obviously much easier to use this is quite new, interesting fact, a lot of people like to drill there holes as they like them to be a bit bigger than what this tool can produce, because they like them to be strong, I see there point but I think if you put enough plug hols in (this method is called plug welding) then they should be as strong as original if not stronger. Both the Shrinker/stretcher and the joggler are great pieces of kit but not absolutely necessary for a beginner. One day I would like to buy a swager AKA a bead roller I bet I could do some serious damage with that 😂 Im glad you enjoyed it mate, hopefully this section would start to come together and start looking like a rear end again. Thanks for the comment and support as always John, hopefully see you in the next one, if this flipping rain stops!! Cheers Mate.

    @Cavalier_SteveАй бұрын

    Morning Del, I hope we can find the fault for you, hmm there are a couple of things we can check, before we change parts, first off we can do two checks in one, if you unplug the crank sensor (plug should be on the top left near the oil filler cap if your filler is on the drivers side of the engine, then check all 4 of your spark plugs they should be dry do this test when your engine is cold, and turn it over as if your going to start it, you don’t want it to run or try and start, let the engine turn over for about 10 seconds, take note of how the engine turns over it should sound even then re-check your plugs if they are dry then you shouldn’t have a fuel leak from the injector, you could also take the air feed off the manifold and turn the ignition on whilst looking at the injector during the fuel prime stage do this a few times you shouldn’t have any fuel spray out at all but if you do you know the injector is leaking. Try this first and let me know how you get on. There shouldn’t be much to check as most of it you’ve done already 🙂 good luck. Steve.

    Hi Steve, thanks for the vid, (I have the same car) I had this fault a year ago and didn’t know what it was, took the car to garage and after plugging the car in told me it was the offside rear sensor, but they said the magnets in the wheel hub break down and had to change the hub, it cost me hundreds…. I have the fault again, started yesterday so I’m wiser now, I’ve just ordered a cheap OBD reader to find out which wheel, I’m hoping just a sensor will do the trick?

  • @Cavalier_Steve
    @Cavalier_Steve2 ай бұрын

    Your welcome, I'm pleased and hope that this will help you with your sensor, to be fair they are cheap enough and easy enough to replace even if its not the sensor, but from what I have read is these are a common replacement item any way, what your garage told you does have some truth, the B5 (Mk5) Passats used to have the the wheel hubs replaced this was due to rust around the reluctor ring used to make the ring come away from the hub and caused the failure, in that case yes you replace the wheel bearing hub, but i don't think our cars suffer with this issues. the OBD Readers are definitely worth the investment as they will pay for them selves in one job such as this, the phone on i have seems quite good and it benefits from using an app which gets updated as technology advances, but they are cheap and you won't be able to get every code or issue detected but they are great for us beginners. Hope you get on ok. Steve.

    Good job so far Steve, you certainly put a lot of attention to detail in those repair panels, might learn a thing or too from that for my future workl lol. Welding thin steel to already thin steel that has likely got rust or weakness in it is never an easy task, especially upside down that makes it 10 times more difficult. I always try and fashion something to rest my arm on, or rest it against something so it's not shaking about when I'm welding, usually try and rest my head on something as well like a block of wood if you're lying on your side and trying to weld upside down.

I was wondering about what you were saying about leaving a gap between panels when welding, I've always overlapped panels as found it was all too easy for bigger holes to blow open when welding. Might be missing something in the technique though. Usually find you have to pulse weld thin steel as it does often blow holes unless it's really new steel.

    Hi Steve, I started watching this video yesterday but as usual I got called away and only just got back to it🙄anyway mate I think you did a superb job on repairing the rust, making the plates and welding them in, I know from experience that this is not an easy job and it's made even harder when you don't have the correct metalworking tools which cost a fortune🤦‍♂ I think your welding as damn good mate as it's difficult to weld such thin steel so your repairs as just as strong (or more so) than the original, when I done my old Cortina up (early 80's) all I had was a 90A ark (stick) welder and that is not much good for thin steel either, I now have a Esab Rebel mig, tig and ark welder which is a synergy type which adapts to your welding style changing the settings constantly, it doesn't get a lot of use these days which is a shame as it's a fully computerised welder just sitting there, I may sell it at some point🤔 Thanks Steve👍

I’m starting to like the challenge and f making the panels by hand feels nice and it’s back to basics with the benefits of anyone watching can follow along with basic tools as well. I’m enjoying it more now that the panels are coming out about right, I think doing the videos adds the extra pressure to turn out a good result. I’ve used cheap welders in the past along with a second hand one which was rubbish! It was a non turbo one (non fan cooled) you could do 2 welds and then the over temp light would come on. The Clark one I have, I’ve never seen the over temperature light on my current set, hopefully I would get flatter better welds the more I work. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos though and I love reading the comments. Hi Senzom, it sounds like you're experiencing the same issue I had with mine, the slave cylinder could be leaking internally, this doesn't leak fluid out as you may expect and you probably won't get any fluid loss, I think the seal breaks down and causes the fluid to leak past the seal insted of pushing it out as the clutch peddle realises on the pressure plate spring to push the slave back this internally pushes the fluid back up the line and into the master cylinder and this is what returns the clutch peddle (I hope that makes sence) I also had black fluid especially when I took out the old slave cylinder, this could be the rubber that has broken down or more likely is that the break fluid is old and as it's hygroscopic it has the ability to absorb moisture and this moisture turns the fluid dark and eventually black. You could try bleeding the slave cylinder but it's highly likely that your slave or master has failed, if you are able to bleed fluid out of the slave cylinder then chances are your master cylinder is good. I hope this all makes sense foe you, if you have any further questions then please come back to me. All the best. Steve.

    @senzom4484 no worries, if I have read your reply right it sounds like you removed the pipe from the slave cylinder, you won’t bleed the cylinder this way (not completely anyway) I would put a bit of clear pipe on the bleed nipple you would be able to see the air bubbles. Any air in the system would compress it wont transfer the fluid properly. Usually you don’t get air in the system for no reason I still suspect your slave cylinder.

    Mauritius. I have a nissan ak12 2007 . Servicing done every 5000 km , oil , fllters and other parts liable to be verified and changed. I have not experienced any minor or important problems. I get full satisfaction from my car, but I nevertheless acknowledge that in mauritius we do not have hundred-km highways which are very using; but when I notice the state of the engine of continental cars , under the hood

    Cont. I cannot but feel honestly and frankly , astonished by the state of things under the hood. Thick dust and..... which gives an impression that the hood has not been lifted for a long time. Prone to all sorts of problems. In mauritius 99.99 % of owners take great care of their vehicles. I am sure that a lot of people will approve me.

    Hi Malleckkadell, unfortunately not everyone here looks after there cars, for example the owner here, they just use the car and don’t really care for it due to not caring and/or money which is a shame really, we both know that servicing is the biggest money saver, sadly not everyone sees it that way. The cars do get dusty under the hood, maybe due to the higher speeds on our motorway’s (highways) it’s good to hear that your country keeps there cars in good condition. People here seem to see them as a throwaway, which I don’t agree with sadly the government here doesn’t help! They don’t want older cars on the roads 😠😢

    Cheers Steve, another little thing to look out for on mine. Mines on 130K now, recently replaced the clock ring squib behind steering wheel - ribbon cable ripped out. Also done the glow plugs and relay- do both at same time if you do yours, I learned the hard way, also make sure head has some heat in it so the plugs have a chance of coming out, thankfully mine were OK. Also had a cracked front spring last month, had both changed at garage. All age and wear and tear. I did the brake fluid on the Cav last weekend too, your video spurred me on, it all went fine, no seized nipples 😂 I also had to replace the distributor last year as mine suffered same fault as yours. I'm going to fix the original though with a new bearing coz I don't think the copy unit is a good as the original bosch. Keep up the vids mate, you give folk confidence to crack on and have a go !!!! 👍 - Paul

    Hi Paul, thank you for all the information, I think the squib on most cars can go, I remember reading these going on the Vectra B. I was disappointed with the mirror but it is a common fault so it must be an age thing good thing yours is still ok 👍 I know I have a glow plug going or gone, as I have seen a code come up a couple of times over the years when I reset the service light, I scan the car just to keep an eye on things and a glow plug comes up, I will replace the relay when I do the plugs as I would do all 4 plugs at the same time. Thanks for the tip on getting the engine hot don’t definitely worth doing that! I know the Diesel MK3 Cavaliers and Astras you change the relay, didn’t know that they are weak on the VW stuff as well. Thanks for the comment on the videos that’s why I do this stuff to give others the confidence, as you can see I’m no expert at all, just want others to have ago I’ve learned as I have gone along so if it encourages at least one person that makes my very happy 😃 Cheers Paul! Hope all is ok with you mate.

    Hi. Can you tell me if was losing some fluid from the expansion tanker? Thanks

  • @Cavalier_Steve
    @Cavalier_Steve3 ай бұрын

    Hi yes, the engine was over heating and causing the coolant to boil over into the overflow tank, this is because the radiator cap is also a pressure relief valve, this allows coolant to expand and escape into the tank, when the coolant cools this creates a slight vacuum and then sucks the coolant back from the overflow tank, when the system is running in normal operating temperature range this doesn’t happen. The coolant no longer goes into the overflow tank as the radiator wasn’t transferring heat efficiently like it was designed to. I hope this helps. Sorry for the lengthy response. All the best. Steve.

    Hi, is the car dangerous to drive when the sensor goes bad? many thanks

  • @Cavalier_Steve
    @Cavalier_Steve4 ай бұрын

    Officially yes, as if you would take the car like this it would fail the MOT, most likely under the dangerous category (due to it being the breaking system) what can happen is when you restart the car the fault would clear as at low speed or no speed the ABS module thinks everything is operating as normal like what happened with me, under normal light breaking, because one of the sensors thinks the wheel is locking up you can get unwanted ABS operation which can lead to much longer breaking distances whilst this is going on. As an example one day during that week I drove for 30 miles and everything worked as expected, however I was very careful to leave a very large gap between me and the car I front so I had distance to stop should the system play up again, on other days the fault either came in straight away or did so under the first operation of the breaks. Once the fault is in you loose your auto hill hold auto parking break application (I think to release as well🤔) but breaking power was normal but if you was to get into a skid then you would have NO ABS assistants at all, something to be aware of if you drive the car. For completeness whilst the fault lights are on you shouldn’t get anymore issues during that trip. Legally though you should have the car recovered and fixed asap if proven that you drove the car like this and you was in an accident you would be held liable. I hope this helps. All the best. Steve.

  • @Cavalier_Steve
    @Cavalier_Steve5 ай бұрын

    Hi Gareth, yes it's possible, I think that the speed comes from one of the front wheel sensors, I'm surprised with the technology on these cars it doesn't use one of the other sensors... if you can get the car scanned and that would tell you which sensor that's given up or if there is another issue thats causing the problem, in all honesty they are not to expensive around £25 each so maybe worthwhile doing both sides, they have done the same amount of work after all. The sensors are handed so you can't swap them from one side to the other for testing. Good luck hope you get your car sorted. Steve.
