Cold start of my 1986 Vauxhall Cavalier.

In this video I thought for a bit of fun to do a cold start of my 1986 Vauxhall Cavalier with the S16SH engine with the Varajet 2 Carburettor thanks for watching. Enjoy!

Purring like a kitten, we had them here in Australia called the Holden Camira JB.; plagued with problems (blowing blue smoke was one) until Holden got it right in the end with the last model 2.0 JE Camira. Mine had done 500,000 km's when I sold it; was a great car.

Thanks, I know Australia had these as the body for the estate was built there, I didn’t know what you guys called them though so that’s good to know. Yes they are good engines and 500K’s is very good 👍 cheers Kris. Steve.

No it’s a great little engine, I’ve had no service history or anything with this car, but it’s one of those that you know it’s been well cared for over the years.

Back in the mid-80s, I had a 4-door saloon 1.6 base model finished in the same China blue. It was an 82-car with a 4-speed gearbox. I loved that car!

Thanks Paul, should have recorded it mate I would’ve gladly watched it, they are great little engines and quite bulletproof as well, I could have filled up the fuel bowl prior to starting but at least the oil can get round the engine whilst the fuel is being pumped up. I have a feeling you will get plenty of opportunities this winter 🥶 cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Steve, enjoyed that, I was wondering if there was a problem but then you put that it's a manual choke and it all made sense. It started well once the fuel had got round, very impressive mate, roll on summer to get some miles on it, cheers 👍

Hi Steve, have to say it's nice to see someone that knows how to start a car that is really cold and has been sitting for a while, no revving of the engine and letting it sit to fully warm up👌some people would just start it up and rev the guts out of it then set of down the road at high speed🤦‍♂🙄 The car started really well seeing as it's been sitting a while and it sounded really quiet and smooth, sounds like a nice engine with no cam rattle and no knocking while the oil pressure was getting up, great video Steve🙏👍

Thanks John mate, yes it’s a very nice engine, this was a bit of fun really yeah some people really goto town on there car engines, if they are a carburettor engine then a small amount of revs is acceptable to get it going but if it’s fuel injected then no need really unless there is a temperature sensor issue. Thanks for watching John hopefully give you something to watch for 5 minutes while looking outside wanting to spray.

I remember the engine in my Cavalier was fairly quiet they do seem to be well made, I've probably asked before but isn't your car tax and mot exempt? I've still been spraying mate, it's been -4 in my booth in the mornings but my heater soon gets it up to 20-23C, I've stripped my panels back to bare steel applied my magic release agent and have them all in 2k high build primer plus I have 2 brand new Merc wings which I've primed so I have 6 wings now👌😎👍

I can’t remember you asking mate, but No sadly not yet as of the rules at the moment the car needs to be 40 years old and there is som red tape complication with that I think in short your car needs to be 41 years old, as my car is a 1986 model it will be the year 2026, then I can apply for historic status which means the car will be tax exempt and MOT exempt but you have to ensure the car stays roadworthy. Sounds like you have been busy maté unlike me today, sounds like we have many more videos up soon on IG? I will be looking forward to seeing those, oh one important think you need to do, and that is tag @peteshobbies5383 into every post you post 😂😂😂 Pete… your welcome 😁 Cheers mate, don’t get covered in to much paint will you.

Sounds like your doing well out of the battery, how old is the car? My Passat battery lasted 6 years it was well on its way when I changed it, the lights didn’t come on when I unlocked the car and everything went off when I started the engine, but it always started oh and once the radio come up with battery low whilst I was listening to it, that’s modern cars for you 😂

@@Cavalier_Steve Luckily after a few cranks it started up again. The Corolla is 17 yrs old but has only done 75k from new. I can only guess it's original because we have every repair bill and can't find one for a new battery and Toyota still use them to this day.

@@jaggass Wow! If that is really 17 years old thats excellent, the most I got out of a battery is 10 years for all we know it was an original Rover battery which we had as the family car years ago, they don’t make them like they used to do they 😂😎
