Thermostat replacement Vauxhall Cavalier X20XEV with test drive

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I replace the thermostat in my Vauxhall Cavalier with the X20XEV engine, then we go for a drive.
This didn’t go to plan sadly as my battery died on the camera that I was using, that technology for you.
If you found this video entertaining or informative then consider buying me a coffee (or a cup of tea in my case 😁)

Nice one Steve, loved the test drive section. A cinematic road trip video would be really cool!

Hi Steve, good video mate, camera's are always doing that in the cold weather but wasn't a problem really, liked what looked like clear silicone grease, mine is pink 😀, liked the Vauxhall air freshener as well 😀, cheers mate 👍

Hi Pete, thanks Mate! Yes camera was a pain but one of those things, yes it is clear/white silicone grease I’m a strong believer for rubber items. The Vauxhall air freshener is quite old now as you maybe can tell because it’s quite faded. Can’t wait for the warmer weather as I’m really keen on starting my spraying projects again. Cheers mate.

Another good video Steve. Yes you can remove the thermostat from the housing. I swapped one over on my Vectra b sri years ago as, i was only supplied the thermostat itself from the motor factors. Looks like that housing had seen better days though. Good work and, at least you have heat now. Look forward to the next video. Keep up the good work mate.

Thanks Matthew I thought it did I still have it somewhere, thankfully the heat is nice and consistent now much better than it was before that’s for sure. Next video coming soon it will be a long one so have a nice cup of tea of what ever you like and hopefully you will enjoy it. Cheers.

Thank you! Yes I would rather it be a manual though but this came up at a good price a few years ago and it was so rust free I couldn’t not buy it. I would do it sooner rather than later as they are getting expensive now and getting rarer.

Nicely done Steve, don't you just hate having no heater in the car, my 2006 Mondeo ST TDCI had a heater issue for the 8 years I owned it, no matter how far you went the heater didn't put out any hot air even though the car got up to normal temps, I got the car when it was 2 years old and from day one the heater didn't work, my thinking was the heater matrix was blocked but it was a huge job to get it out. Anyway mate I'm pleased you got it sorted and yeah I love an auto box, is yours a 4 or 5 speed Steve, mine is a 5 speed and it's the best auto I've owned👍👍

Hi John and thank you, this one really didn’t turn out what I wanted with the camera going flat 😒. Yes I bet you could have got away with the heater matrix being flushed out maybe with a hose pipe on your Mondeo I bet winter was a pain keeping the windows clear especially on a rainy day. The gearbox is a 4 speed but it does have toque converter lockup on 3rd and 4th which is good, it’s a good gearbox to be fair and on Vauxhall have paired with the engine well as the ECU retards the ignition timing on gear change so it makes it smooth very good implementation in my opinion, much better than the 2000 1.4 Honda Civic auto I once had. Cheers John see you in the next one. You may need 4-5 sittings for that or pop corn to enjoy when you watch it. Cheers mate 👍

Never worked on the ecotec in the cavalier, all mines are the single cam so interesting to see this one getting worked on. Is that your exhaust manifold blowing? I use the dexcool in my omega, which is ecotec as well so makes sense you're using it in this engine the single ohc you can just use normal AF.

Thanks Andy, I had someone else tell me that, apparently it’s a common problem for this style of manifold to crack, I took it off checked it over couldn’t find anything I also replaced the exhaust manifold gasket. It does have the wrong back box on the car so I think it maybe that, I will check it over again soon I have a second hand proper back box to put back on which I will record 😁 it’s annoying as it sort of sounds sporty which it’s far from.

Hi Phil, I hope not, otherwise that will be another video in the future, I have a new tensioner and belt so we will soon find out, I’m using 10W 40 oil gets changed every year regardless of mileage which is typically around 3000 miles. I will get it done soon. Cheers.
