Ey'up everybody, my names Kev, welcome to my workshop.

It helps me cope with my life changing mental health experiences after the the passing away of my very young daughter after a long devastating illness.

very useful
Gday Kev, bloody cars, there’s always something, I just finished putting in a new timing belt, new radiator and starter motor in the young fellas 4wd, not the funniest of jobs to do, glad you got that sorted mate, cheers
I can honestly say this has been useful. My S Type Jag has the same problem on the boot release and I believe it is a broken wire where the loom runs around the boot hinge. Thanks Kev this has given me the confidence to get on and get it fixed. 👍👍👍
Looks like a fiddly job Kev glad you got it working 😀
Brilliant fix
Thanks very much 👍👍👍
very well done
Thank you! Cheers! RB 👍👍👍
Excellent little repair Kev. Wiring loom problems always made my heart sink when I was still a spanner-wielder. Oh well, needs must and all that. Cheers mate and thanks for that.
Thanks Mark 👍👍👍
Nice work Kev, i like the idea of using a bit of inner tube to remake the rubber sleeve. 👍👍 Let's hope this one lasts more than a year! 🤞
I hope so too only Pain in neck working on cars today they have no heart and soul like the old ones, old ones to me me 1970's 😂😂😂 mind you thinking about it they were a pain too 🤔😜👍👍👍atb kev
Good work. Obvious place for a problem and a bit of a pain to fix.
Cheers Ben All work on cars is a pain. Needs must Thanks for feedback Atb kev
Hi KEV Nice repair. It is as new....👍👍👍👍👍. Have a nice week-end. Olivier.
Thanks, you too! Olivier 👍👍👍👍👍🚂🚂
good video Kev
👍👍👍
Good job Kev saved a fortune doing it yourself 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Glen 👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂
Even though wires may be the right cross sectional area, you have to take into account the number of core strands. Less strands mean less flexibility means broken wires down the line. You have to use the same or better. By better, I mean smaller but more numerous core strands. How do I know this ...I worked in the cutting shop of Lucas/SEI for eight years. I personally cut and terminated the entire looms for the first 25 Rover 75s
Great info L/uk Your right, but I just use what I have. Wiring today in cars is poor . It soon goes brittle on the insulation. Nothings made like it use to be. Thanks for the feedback See you next time Kev👍👍👍
Told my 3 boys any thing with tits and wheels is going to give you trouble , they play with both ! Kit from down under
😂😂😂 nice one kit Atb Kev👍👍
Saved some money there Kev - Cheers Jim
Cheers Jim That's what it's all about😂👍👍👍 Atb Kev
Good workaround Kev. One thing I do when cutting a loom like that is to cut all the wires at different places to join them. That way you reduce the overall diameter of the join (as they are all spread out) and any chance of cross shorting through abrasion over time. A lot of 240 volt appliances (washing machines etc) now use steel core wire, which isn't suitable for car looms. Good Job. Saved a pretty penny there. Cheers Rob
That different lengths thing is a super idea! So simple but just brilliant. And thanks for the tip about wire types - is the steel core not flexible enough? Prone to breakage? Thanks mate, very helpful.
@@MarkMcCluney Steel wire has a much higher resistance than copper and can cause voltage drop with 12 volt applications. Vehicle and other low voltage wiring is usually copper (or sometimes aluminium) for this reason. Cheers Rob
Great repair, save a fortune in garage prices. 😊👍
Hi John i'm and expert at saving garage prices, look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves👍👍👍😉😉😉😄😄😄 thanks for watching atb Kev
@MrFactotum too right, I put jumpers on rather than the heating etc. Looking forward to the micro lathe 👍.
Nice, Tinkerers usually come up with the best tools... like I do.
cheers John there's always a way, and in most cases more than one way. keep up the tinkering👍👍😉😉👍👍👍👍 regards Kev
Satisfying to see this so well explained although I'd be careful about using your continuity checker on live circuits. If you want to add a second motor kzread.info/dash/bejne/YqOtsphtmpCxmNY.html
cheers Richard i will bear your info in mind and will check the link you sent. many thanks👍👍 Kev
@@MrFactotum Thanks. I blew up two bikes this week and needed to repair them. Your video was easier to find than mine. It was really useful Thank you. This is the other broken bike kzread.info/dash/bejne/daJ-k82SfbHIqNY.html
@@richard_wenner Hi Richard thanks for feedback, now contact made i have Sub'd and Bell'd you and will take a look at what you get up to when im back off holiday. regards Kev👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@MrFactotum Have a good holiday.
Did you lap the valve in or did you find it seated ok?
hi u310 thanks for watching.👍👍👍 not to start with, but ended up lapping with fine valve grinding paste later. regards Kev
@@MrFactotum Cheers for the fast response, and in terms of a cutter to cut the seat, I assume you used a commercial countersink cutter
great job kev... tool my loco for its first run now its complete and the automatic cylinder drain cock was plugged... as you can imagine didnt get very far once the condensation built up in the cylinders. oh the joys never end. ;)
cheers Brendan never had a bit of trouble with my auto drain cocks, perhaps more luck than judgement. There's always little niggles to contend with, part of the fun😉😂😂, my pet hate is when loco left for a while the axle pump ball sticks every time and it's a bit of a bugger to take off the way i designed it to fit, but a sharp tap with a long heavy screwdriver or similar, frees it. all the best with running your loco, see you next time, hope you get some video's of it running for us to enjoy with you. Kev👍👍
WoW! That’s Awesome! Have A Wonderful Week!
Thanks! You too! J appreciate the feedback regards kev

Great video Kev so peaceful there. Looks like you had a good run round 😃
Great Julia, not so peaceful when you have all the trials and tribulations of keeping a steam loco running. That's talking from a novices perspective 👍👍👍😊 not complaining
Hi Kev Nice to see Hady Central and north also nice to see you out and about. I was beginning to think that you never came out of your workshop 😅

Hi KEV Very interesting. Preparing the loco before a ride must be very enjoyable I suppose.... I regret that this type of club is not very common where I live. I would certainly be a member. Scratch is working very well... Have a nice sunday. Bfn Olivier
hi Olivier Shame you don't have a ME track near you, very enjoyable. you have a nice sunday too👍👍👍🚂🚂🚂 regards Kev
