Can the blade and the knife be wound down below. the table height?
Yes they can, that’s generally how I store mine
Use less glue comes to mind but I think you figured that out yourself 😀. You did very well and for £120, can't say better than that. Enjoying the videos - keep them coming.
You are absolutely right, lesson very much learned about excessive glue 😅 thank you for the kind words, more videos coming soon :)
Great Review! I've recently purchased a parkside tabletop saw from Lidl. I think it's great for occasional use. Any thoughts?
I’ve never used one but I’ve heard they’re great for occasional DIY use but the fence isn’t brilliant, probably spot on for occasional use but not fine woodworking like box making.
I recently purchased the Evolution 255TBL+ and they are almost identical. The one exception being dust extraction on the blade shield.
I’ve heard this to be the case, along with the new Skil saw too! That additional dust extraction sounds good!
I've been using the cheap throwaway masks (and to be honest, I've been using the same one for ages!). After watching this, I think I'll add an FFP3 mask to my shopping list.
We’ve all done the same Alistair don’t worry! For a long time I was reusing a super basic dust make haha. Glad you found some useful information in the video. If you haven’t already - please share this in any woodworking groups you’re a part of, I’m keen for this message to get out there so people can best protect themselves, but most pages don’t allow “self promotion” so I’m unable to share it myself.
Useful video ,Alex. I'm always wiping down surfaces in my workshop from fine sawdust. Scary to think im breathing that stuff in. New PPE me thinks!
Thanks for the kind words, It’s scary once you start doing the research, but luckily PPE is cheap and a nice quick fix! If you haven’t already - please share this in any woodworking groups you’re a part of, I’m keen for this message to get out there so people can best protect themselves, but most pages don’t allow “self promotion” so I’m unable to share it myself.
something I've always wondered about these is, do they cool you down too? I work pretty hot so my mask usually gets pretty disgusting after more than a few hours, but I could see getting one of these if they can keep me cool and safe!
The air that gets pumped in is refreshing but not quite air conditioning! I definitely got less sweaty/gross then I did just wearing an FFP style mask and found that it kept the sun off my head too which was an added bonus! Downside is it takes a bit of getting use to having the breathing tube and battery pack attached. Hope that helped bud 👍
Does it have an induction motor?
In all honesty I’m not sure
Cracking video m8 most people me including certianly do over look it. Ive just shared the video to my socials to try get it and you more exposure. That was really good video. Wish i could afford one the space helmets i have a face shield for turning and grinding etc but like you i have beard so getting a mask to fit properly is a problem. Great video hope your good catch up soon. 👍🏴
Thanks mate, hopefully it’ll get a bit of traction, it’s a super important issue. Hope you’re well.
I think it's also important to say, that any mask and filter is better than not using a mask at all. I'm sure we've all been there. We want to do something, didn't expect it to be so dusty and don't have a high quality mask at hand. If you don't have any highly rated mask and not doing the work is not an option (as should be the first choice), please use the best thing you have. A FFP3 mask is better than a surgical mask, a surgical mask is better than some cloth, some cloth is better than just holding your breath and just holding your breath is still better than breathing normally. If you absolutely have to put yourself in danger, PLEASE try to minimize the danger as much as anyhow possible. Also try to remember what kinds of work could be dangerous to you. - cleaning the top of dusty cabinets - using cleaning sprays - vacuuming dusty areas - moving thing in/to the attic - a lot of woodworking tasks - etc.
Excellent points - thank you for sharing them.
As a welder I have been exposed to fumes and dust for 50 years it’s only in the last 10 years employers have been legally obliged to provide protection my father was a cabinet maker/ joiner he always got a chest infection after working with Mahogany as an apprentice the only masks were ones called Martingale’s which were merely cotton wool pads🥺
It's really good that employers now have to consider their employees health and wellbeing. Cotton wool pads must of felt horrible once they got all damp from being breathed on!
An alternative is also to use hand tools more. Apart from less dust, there's also the advantage of the exercise doing more for your lungs than a mask. Outside for table saw, inside hand tools will greatly improve your environment. A sharp plane will always leave a better surface than a sander and with no dust. However if youre more a plywood/mdf/chipboard worker its a different situation. Its the darth vader system then.
Really good point thank you - I do a lot of hand tool woodworking and didn't even think to consider adding that in!
Brilliant information clearly delivered Alex. Really interesting bit of kit. As a lazy woodworking this would be a great addition.
Once you get over feeling like a spaceman it’s a really good bit of kit - albeit a bit hot in the sunshine!
Thanks for the information Alex,. I have the FFP 3 mask, and use a shop vac and cyclone for the big stuff, indoors, but I much prefer to work outside if I can.
You’re welcome John, I hope the video was useful. Seems like you’ve got a good system in place - although nothing quite beats the feeling of working outside in the sun and fresh air!
Such an important subject!
It is! And not talked about as much as we should!

This is just the vid I've been looking for, stumbled across the Rutland whilst looking at cheap bosch table saws and it ticks every box for me. Your vid just got them another sale and you another subscriber! Thanks
Thanks for the kind comment and the subscription! I’m still loving the table saw, I think for the price it can’t be beat!
This appears to be the same saw as the Skill, just painted black instead of red, which I bought recently in the U.S. for less than $300. The push rod and the fence looks exactly the same, but the mitre gauge looks a bit better on the Rutlands. Of course, the Skill has foldable legs.
Yes I’ve heard they might be produced in the same factories then just painted to whichever brand is selling them. The foldable legs sound excellent, I had to build a table for mine. The mitre gauge is pretty poor, I’ll be looking to upgrade it soon.
I think this comes out of the same factory as the Evolution saws... looks very simmilar but I am only going on what I can see in the video, maybe a direct comparison between the two would resolve any differences and or similarities
Interesting, I’ve heard similar ideas about the skil saw but not about the evolution - I’ll have to have a look!
That's an all-black Dewalt - previous generation model.
Maybe so - I've heard rumours that maybe their patent expired on the rack and pinion fence as lots of models like this have come out at once!
@@Greyotterstudio A lot of the cast/injection parts look the same, along with the extrusion, stamped and bent metal parts on the fence. Some parts, like power switch are updated, but the similarities are uncanny/
how does it compare with the Scheppach HS105 in your opinion? thats another great value table saw, I heard
I've not used a scheppach HS105 but I think the inclusion of legs/a stand for a very similar price point is a nice touch.
I've watched a lot of woodworking videos about these stools besides Paul sellers yours has been the most informative and helpful. Paul's is great but for someone with limited time the fact the you told what all the types of tools you could possibly use to achieve each task is what makes yours the best. Instead of gather information on what tool I should use from my arsenal from all the videos was able to figure it all out from this one.
Thank you, I’m really glad you found it useful! Good luck with your build, I’d love to see how it turns out, feel free to send me a DM on instagram :)
Skil, without legs.
Yes I believe they’re manufactured in the same factory!
Good video When i use pocket hole screws i use the drill with the torque setting turned down a bit to stop stripping the screw out it also gives a bit more control on speed rather than the impact driver. Steve aus.
This is a great tip thank you very much! Will definitely try this in future.
great beginner friendly build Alex. Love it.
Thanks Mark. Hopefully people find it useful.
You are British? Why are you using $$$?
Because the majority of my viewers are American - so I just convert it on Google to help :)
@@Greyotterstudio I don't want to tell you how to make your videos. But I feel like you are likely open to hearing honest feedback. If you are doing this sort of video, you want people to be invested in you as a person/character. - I can see you are already trying to do this. For me, as a British person, hearing you say "bucks" and have things in Dollars is a jarring, and feels "fake". Not to mention you are a British dude, reviewing a British tool. And FYI - its $250 if you convert to dollars. You don't need to pander to the American audience, be authentic!! Either way I do wish you all the best
Great follow up. Glad least something sold for you. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, let me know how you get on with yours!
@@Greyotterstudio it’s been a mixed bag. FB Marketplace seems saturated. I’ve sold a few phone holders and charcuterie boards at market stalls but seem to have got more interest in custom orders for signs. I’m going to give it a bit of time and see if it grows a little.
Great video. Made some of these myself to sell at craft fairs. Hope it goes well for you, good luck.
Good luck to you too! Which ones did you make?
get rid of that push stick i had a major kick back using one of hit me in the chest and knocked me to the ground i would recommend a gripper a lot more safer stay safe
Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into a gripper! Any brands you’d recommend?
@@Greyotterstudio micro jig the one Ive got I think have a look on tube a lot of videos on there I feel a lot more safer using the gripper
Cracking video m8 gonna be looking at something similar to yhis shortly or this and work bench combined. Catch up with on email got some questions for ya. 🏴👍 Ps you need shop vac
Thanks mate, happy to receive any emails, ping me one on [email protected]. Look forwards to seeing your combo workbench!
@@Greyotterstudio no worries m8 email sent
Do the castors make it more wobbly would you say?
No - they’re braked castors so I can stop it in place!
I’m having issues getting a download link for the plans but happy to share them via email if anyone needs. Cut list also included at the end of the video 👍
Awesome m8 drop me an email or send me your email I'll ping you one could do with your input as well
I have watched many workbench builds on KZread - Paul Sellers, English Woodworker, Rex Kreuger, Wood by Wright, etc., etc., and I really like yours! Simplicity of materials, simplicity of working space and just the sounds of hand tools (mostly). I was referred over to your channel by Mark at Start Making (Woodworking) - he's doing a fantastic job of building his own channel and referring his viewers to others. Your editing was phenomenal! I can't imagine how many hours that took! And yes, like others, I would very much like to see a Part 2, expanding on the design ideas - what worked, what didn't. Makes me want to jump into building one for myself, even though I have absolutely no room for a workbench! Thank you. You have earned a subscription from me.
Thank you for the kind words - the edit did indeed take a long time, although mostly because I'm still quite new to it all I think. I'm glad you like the Workbench - I'm thoroughly enjoying using it and the design seems to be holding up very well! Mark is a lovely person, and a huge advocate for the Woodworking Community. Thank you for the subscription, I love hearing feedback and where I can improve so please let me know what you think of the next few videos, the next one will be a power tool build, but after that it's hopefully back to hand tools for a bit!
20:30 "and it doesnt move there's no play" and it literally moves 1-2 mm to the right when the knob is turned :D
I’ve found no movement when making cuts with it, the fence is decent but the mitre gauge is pretty poor.
Got the 10" version which has been a great addition to my workshop
It’s a fantastic little machine isn’t it! Very satisfied with it so far.
Great video thank you
Glad you liked it! More build videos and reviews to come in the near future!
Thank you for the Review Alex 😁 Great honest feedback for us!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review!
I haven't bought this (yet), but I have bought many items from Rutlands. You just can't fault their customer service, any issue resolved instanly and without question. To be fair, same goes for Axminster Tools too.
Hi Alex, A bargain... Much depends on the sharpness of the blade. As soon as the blade dulls it will wonder more xxx
Good to know! I’m loving it so far!
Really helpful - and judging by the state of that grass Alex you are someone else that prioritises working with wood over those annoying garden chores! Quite right…
Haha I keep telling myself it’s because it’s been to wet to do it…
He is simply making sure that the grass has a solid root system! 😂
Great , honest and easy to understand review Alex. Thank you,
Thanks Mark - looking forwards to making some things with it!
Not sure why this comment didn't go up half hour ago or so. Anyways. Cracking video m8 glad you've managed to get InTouch with them and work with them. Bandsaw looks awesome. I got the draper version as this was just bit out my budget back when I got mine although wished id of waited this looks much better than mine. What you'll wanna do is get onto tuff saws get a 3 tpi blade for resaw and 6 tpi for curve cuts looks simple enough to swap the blades out unlike mine. What's the next tool you getting from them?? Speak soon m8 🏴👍
Cheers mate - thanks for the tip about blades, ill definitely be ordering some soon. Not sure if I’ll get any more from them, but grateful for the opportunity to have a look at this one! :) hope you’re getting on well.
@@Greyotterstudio will be better when get the kids back school on Monday. Also managed to some how break carbide tip of new turning tools 😳🤔 Well fingers crossed you could maybe try get something else out them. Blades are definitely a good upgrade as the factory blade is never great. 👍🏴
Looks good, have you tried the similar model from Titan?
Not yet - but it’s on the list! Along with the Axminster budget one too!
Sold out as of 2/4/24.Thanks tho the good reviews,I guess.
Sorry to hear this - hopefully they will have more in stock soon!
How odd that these Rutlands reviews are popping up everywhere.
It's because it's a fairly new model!
Effective,as they are now out of stock.
Found Parkside and Titan perfectly good. EBay used/new tools,Facebook marketplace, local sales groups.
Wasn’t a fun of the titan chopsaw but I’ve used some of their other stuff with no issues! I also still use a super cheap £25 jigsaw and it’s doing great!
looks the same as Evolution and Flex saws.
I’ve believe it’s the same as the new skil model too, just without the legs.
@@Greyotterstudio I suspect there is a factory churning out the basic machines and each company adds there worn twist to it.
Great review, is it soft start? or bang and away you go?
Not a soft start I’m afraid
Can you build this into a work table?
Yes you can - you can build most job site style saws into a workbench!
I've bought one today on the strenth of this video if it's shit I'll blame you lol joking but uther people saying parts are hard to get 3 year warranty carnt be bad thanks for the vidio
Best of luck with it! I’m really enjoying mine!
