I also have a feral cat, who, for being as skittish as she is from what I could tell was a hard life; she is extremely sweet, loving, and bonded to me. But I think she will always be on ‘high alert’ for what she perceives as threats; this video was very helpful in reminding me of little things to bear in mind with her. My other cat is very laid back and has accepted her into the household, that makes me very relieved as I want her to ‘get away’ from that miserable first 3 months of her life. She has several areas that are her zones, I’ve had her a year now and she has gotten comfortable with my cat and two small dogs! So I’d say she’s overcome a lot right there. We love her very much!

When I was living out in the country, two cats showed up on my porch whining. One of them had a collar and the other didn't. I looked cats up online and according to an article I read, the one with the collar had been a pet whose owner may have died or moved to a nursing home and couldn't take the cat. That cat was "abandoned." The other cat with no collar was "feral." Their behavior definitely reflected those two words. I took the collared cat to the local vet for a dip, shots and a physical. My granddaughter named her "Sweetie" and we brought her into the house. We named the other one "Smoky," but she only let Maggie (granddaughter) pat her. One day I went out front to just look around. Smoky was sitting on the sidewalk. I knew she wouldn't let me touch her so I turned around to go back in the house. As I turned around, she scratched the back of my ankle and drew blood. I turned around quickly, shook my finger at her and said loudly, "BAD kitty" repeatedly. She laid down on her back and covered her eyes with her paws! I was so surprised! Later, I thought maybe she just wanted my attention and didn't intend to scratch me, but was apologizing.

I think I disagree with your perspective on enclosed litter boxes. The reason is that cats will seek out boxes and go into them - ostensibly, because they feel safer in them. If they did not feel safe inside a box, they would not go in them. This is not to say that there are not other reasons to avoid using an enclosed litter box. The idea that they have a much more sensitive sense of smell is a valid reason to not use an enclosed litter box - unless, it is kept clean. I have used enclosed litter boxes with great success and also with limited success. My cat that would not use an enclosed litter box was a Maine Coon and it was just too small for him.

My female fixed cat is loose outside on 16 acres , in the country . She hangs out on the roof of my house, She only comes in at night if it is less then 40 degrees . I have 5 cows , 15 chickens , and 2 Dogs . She likes to hang out with the Cattle . Hunts mice and gophers, and birds . She has fought with multiple stray cats , and runs them off . On my property I have Bobcats , Coyotes , Opossums , Armidillos , and Owls and Hawks . My biggest fear from a predator are actually Owls , that can swoop down and snatch her. She is 7 and has survifed, She has a ladder to get on the roof.

Hubby & I adopted our first cat in about 2 decades. We went to the local animal control shelter. We walked in and there in a large pen by herself was our Shadow. I told my husband, I want this kitty. We adopted her and she fit right in. Now she runs the house. She sleeps with us and follows me around the house when she’s not sleeping. And of course, like other cats, she sleeps a lot. She loves to chase after her cat dancer toy. It’s the only toy she likes other than a feather at the end of a stick. Our life is so much better with her in it.

As per teasing, I will not get a laser pointer for my kitty because there's nothing to follow up on; she's gotten frustrated when I've used a mirror instead of a laser pointer because she hasn't been able to catch what she sees--it would be the equivalent of teasing. So I use the fishing pole toy and smaller toys and treats for her to hunt and catch. Yep, she doesn't eat the treats immediately but stalks, pounces, and catches them then repeats, and then eventually eats them; it's so cute!

Growing up we had a Maincoon male and a female Siamese. The Siamese used to chase Matchbox cars on my track set up I had in the living room. Muffin would watch intently to when I launched them, and she would eyeball the cars as they came around the track. Then, when they would jump in the air from the bridge piece, and fly to the next track section, Muffin would bat them out of the air. sometimes she would hit it wrong and shook her paw from the hit to make it stop hurting. She had so much fun with the Matchbox track.

I always think these videos refer only to indoor cats. My partner and I have had many cats over the last 30 years. When we lived in the city, in large apartments our cats behaved very differently to the way our current cats, who come and go as they please behave. When the weather is bad they are indoors and very affectionate. When it’s good we hardly see them except when they come in to eat unless we are also outside when they hang out with us.
