I began to feed stray kittens and it reached the point that I was feeding 11 cats. I reached out to a local organization who helped to trap them and fixed them for free since im terminally ill and disabled. I have been there of letting in one of the black cats who always runs to me and she is friendly to the 2 dogs i have. I love cats and dogs and i will always take care of them. ❤

That’s true, they do move and it’s often because they like the physical surroundings more. A cat across the road from me live in a comfortable house with 4 children. It simply preferred living under my house with only one other person (me a middle-aged bachelor).

We moved in our home ten years old. Two weeks after we moved in on a stormy winter night with snow, cat came to our door meowing. We opened the door and let her in. She was pregnant had babys month later and we found good homes but we kept moma and one of her babies. Well a year later naboors knocked on our door saying we had their cat. Cops came and we had already had cat fixed and shots and chipped. Its been 11 years since that happened and QUEEN MOMA, AND PRINCESS JASMINE (momas daughter) are still with us and happy.

Our story is almost exactly the same. We had idiot neighbors that got their kids new cats like stuffed toys from Goodwill. Of the two one showed up at the back door wet & frozen, the other followed me & our dog straight through the front door (after returning him once). Did we steal them? They weren't neutered or chipped & no effort was made to find them. 10+ years later they're asleep with my wife on the big bed. These people didn't deserve cats.

Many, many years ago, we rescued/adopted an orange/white female tabby (she was, technically, a "calico" because one patch of black hair that looked like an "motor oil stain") that was hanging around the outdoor break (smoking) area where my mom worked. We had her for about 2 years before she ran away when we brought home a gray (male) kitten as a companion for her. She wouldn't have anything to do with him, and after a couple of weeks or so, she ran away and she never came back. That was 35 years ago, and I still wonder what happened to her, and I hope she found another home. 😢 It still hurts. I missed her so much.

There was a cat that was quite caring, and loyal, and one summer day as several family members sat on front porch, the cat came to each one ,as to visit a moment, and then left, and did not return, it had seemed he had bid us farewell.
My family once 'had' a cat who led a double life. He began visiting us regularly, and eventually stayed for days or weeks at a time, only to also disappear for similar periods of time. I think we eventually somehow found out his ‘regular’ family lived on a neighboring island, and that he would get on a small ferry to travel between them and us.

After 3-4 months, that same cat showed up at my Mom's new residence & had never been outside of Bremerton. The cat left her designated owner & somehow found my Mom. My cousins’ cat moved out and was found six months later living with an elderly couple four blocks away! Too much commotion at her original home! My parents, when they retired, acquired a part-time cat. My folks were his R & R outpost! My sister’s cat also moved in with me. She brought her over a few times and eventually put up a wild fight to put her in the carrier. So we decided she could just stay.

homie3461 Three reasons to keep my cats indoors: 1. I feed the birds and chipmunks and adore them so no killing of them from my cats. 2. we live by a VERY busy road so no kitties outside, don’t want them squished. 3. Coyotes near our house are heard almost daily (nightly) so no kitties outside to become coyote snacks.

The part about the collar, well i didn't have a good experience with that over 10 years ago. Had a black cat named Majestic, her collar got caught in the seam of a folding section of a collapsible table we had once when she was trying to hop down. Needless to say I'm glad i was there to save her, be mindful, even if it's unlikely collars can become death traps for your feline friend.

30 years ago I made the same mistake with a leather collar but got home in time. Nothing cute about it. I've seen expandable collars that slip off, *ALONG WITH* cat's contact info. Keep them inside.
I had a cat years ago who liked to go outside. We lived in a semi-rural area. One night I let him out as usual, and he disappeared, never to be seen again. I don't think a car got him; from kittenhood on, he avoided them. We came to believe that a wild animal got him--we had foxes in the neighborhood. I don't think he was picked up by someone else; he was a one-person cat who would only let me touch him.

I had an orange male that did that. He ran out one day. Ran into the corn fields. Didn’t see him for 5 years. The day before we moved away, he ran out of the corn field, booped me on the nose and ran back to the corn fields.
We had the absolute best cat ever. He was awesome. We allowed him to go outdoors anytime he wanted and he always returned before dark. He was our only pet he had been fixed at the earliest age possible one day he wanted out so I opened the sliding glass door to let him out and sadly he never returned. We asked the neighbors made posters offered a reward the whole 9 yards. This was 7 years ago and I will always wonder what happened to my cat

I had a very similar situation. My best friend liked to be inside when he wanted and outside when he wanted. It was a perfect relationship. I never worried about him, his father was a feral bada*s and when we played he pulled no punches so I knew he could hold his own. Sadly he wanted out one night and I let him out. Normally he'd be waiting on the front porch in the morning to come in. But on that following morning he wasn't on the chair sleeping like he normally was waiting to come in. The chair was moved and a potted plant knocked over. He was nowhere to be found. No fur, no blood no anything. Just... Gone. I called into work for the next two days to walk the 600 acre ranch I lived on to find any trace of him. Nothing. I'll never know what happened to him. I miss that little dude so much.

I don’t let my cats go outside, ever! There’s nothing good outside for cat and my vet told me that an indoor cat has twice the life expectancy of an outdoors cat, so keep your fur babies inside.
Too many cats will lead to them possibly leaving, from getting bullied or having to compete for the food put out.
I'm so lucky. I adopted a mother cat (she was quite feral) with her 2 kittens. I live on a main road so I was worried about their safety. Heaven knows why, but they NEVER ventured on to the road. All three cats will sit out the front, at the roller door, but never go across the road. The only place they go is to the next door neighbor's, where they torment the dog (a little Jack Russell) as they walk past the glass door! As I said, mum was feral and her kittens knew no better, but still, they're safe. I hope it stays this way. I have friends that adopted a mother cat (while still pregnant), and just after she had the kittens she disappeared. The kids had to feed the babies to keep them alive. I know the whole family was devastated, but never knew what happened to her. I want to cry just thinking about it.
My son’s cat escaped 2 months ago. We tried to treat her stress because of changes in the family composition, but I guess it was too much for her. We haven’t lost hope she’ll come back. It’s really heartbreaking not knowing if she’s safe. 😢
Our mother and 4 offspring live 99% outside, all are neutered, chipped and collared. Three have gone walkabout for 2-8 days each, coming back. Fed twice per day, they have trees, yard walls and roofs as vantage points. Occasional scraps with neighbouring cats, snakes, lizards and frogs.
Some times cats leave home to die. I found one of ours who did that. Got him to the vets and he lived to the ripe old age of 14.5 years. With another cat, he found a rabbit warren and moved out of the house until he had killed them all, then he came home.
Our cat Conan adopted several families that live on the street behind us. We raised him from a kitten, got him fixed at six months, fed him dry, canned and rotisserie chicken daily. He grew to be a happy cat two year old cat until the day we brought home a couple of homeless kittens. He went into a rage when he saw them, hissing and growling. He demanded to be let outside, knocking everything over if we didn't oblige. He even pulled off the wooden blinds on one of the windows.. We figured that in time, he would come to accept the kitties. Nope. He acted like a wild cat seeking revenge. Since we kept a tracker on his collar (along with an id tag and being chipped), we discovered that he has four other homes now on the street behind us. He uses their pet doors and sleeps at night in bed with two of them. He still comes around to visit and be petted, but refuses to come in. We drop off cat food here and there to these neighbors. One sweet neighbor even added a new id tag, adding the name Coco to his name Conan. He kills all the rats around their homes, so he will always be known as Conan, The Barbarian. So grateful that he is loved by so many.
Great info, helpful. Lost two cats to big storms - they fled and, apparently, got lost - and one to illness; he chose to find a hiding place to fade away. Sad stuff, but in a way, it's the fee we pay for being able to love them for as long as we get to. (They were all feral cats that adapted to being indoors part of the time, particularly winter.)

I replaced my house with a new one. During the last month, my husband and I ran out of money waiting for them to finish the house and we camped in the woods and the cats still stayed with us in the tents. But when we finally moved into the new house, they took one look inside the new house and never returned.
I have a 'notmycat'. Lived in my garden, in the freezing winter. Made her an isolated box, with straw, to keep warm and attached a label to her collar with my phone number, with the question whether she belonged to someone. Apparently she does (they used to live next door) but she still 'lives' here. Even breaks in through my tiny window, which I now closed with a tie wrap. I guess it's just nice & quiet here, compared to her home. And we love each other ❤

All depends on the location and your situation. If you have many acres, you might have both roaming barn cats and indoor/catio cats. There’s no one set rule. However, in cities it’s very advisable to limit your cats’ reach. Catios and catyards are the best of both worlds. Evaluate the risks and plan accordingly. In our small town, there’s daily posts of escaped and deceased cats on Facebook.

Ohhhhh I lost a cat, Peow, I loved him… there was stress too, likely why he left. Much noise, hard times and he didn’t come home one day. His brother got out after an amputation and got lost, though when he Peow was gone months must have found or come across his brother Pootha. He bought his brother Pootha home, but would not stay though, as had already been gone 6 months. The next day as soon as he could leave he escaped, he did so and never came back. I’m grateful he bought back his disabled brother though. And after this a large cat run was built so the cats can be indoors or outdoors but were safe from dogs etc. as the missing cats brother had his leg amputated due to a loose dog coming into the yard. But Peow, he never come back and we could not find him. His amputee brother Pootha lived till 17 safe within the cat runs and the house. If you Love your cat, then make a run for them. We used a pergola and covered it with shade cloth. Later it got larger as at one end as a giant chicken wire chicken run was attached. It doesn’t have to be expensive cat mesh in fact that will not stop a dog getting your cat. Shade cloth cat run has been up about 15 years and the chicken run component 10 years. Lots and lots of room for little money. You can turn any verandah or patio pergola into a cat run with shade cloth. They will love you for it.
My cat bob (Bobby) was so loyal I still miss him so much 😩
“Indoor-outdoor”cats in my neighborhood go missing all the time. It seems to happen whenever they enter this certain gentleman’s yard. My theory is that the gentleman is tired of cleaning up his neighbor’s cat’s crap, so he gently calls the cats to him, “heeeerrrrreeee kitty kitty,” when they’re in his yard. Then, pets them. After that, he gently picks up the cats and puts them in his car. Then, he drives the cats 30 mins out of town and lets them loose. Just a theory though.
Love you cat, keep it inside.
Have had this loyal fellow hanging around 8yrs or so since TNR. He Follows me around like a lil kid. Soon to be moving, trapping him scare moms me, he's smart but allowed himself trapped few times due to extreme cold last few yrs. Last inside kitty died in a fire 16 days ago. Hope this works out somehow 🙏, never have figured out how to put a photo here!

I have a cat I've had for 16 years. One of our favorite things to do is go outside and walk around. She doesn't wear a leash or a collar. I've even left the door open to let her go outside when she wants, and she might go look around for a few minutes, but she always comes back. My take is that I respect her greatly. She is not a captive in my home... it's HER home. She feels safe here. She gets food, water, a place to sleep with a warmer, and she knows that if she's scared, she can go hide until the danger passes. My point is that if you take care of your cat and treat them respectfully and with dignity... they probably won't want to leave.
My cat did that to his last owners :( its sad cause whoever they were clearly treated him with love he loves all humans but he wasnt chipped and the shelter had him for so long no one wanted him or came to get him. Hes been my best friend for 5 years now :)
I had a sociable & neutered cat. Rescued her & her sister 2009 when they were more than a week old, she was the only closest to other dogs we got after them..around 2012 when she decided to be a stray but she would constantly visited us sometimes for food or drink or just nap but never stayed again since she 1st left the us. Around 2019 when my cousin found her lifeless across our house on the roof of our neighbor's. Still no idea what happened to her.💔
You forgot theft. Even if they have a collar on, some people take them in and remove the collar. Make sure you get them chipped and register it.
I want my boy to see more of the world but I just can't let out. I need him to be safe and happy all the time or it effs me up. I've never had a pet in my life cuz I didn't want to feel this way about an animal but now that I got stuck with him, I need our years together to be safe.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing.

When I lived near Seattle there would be lost cat posters on telephone poles all the time. Those cats were never coming home because, usually they were taken by coyotes, yes, even in the city coyotes are everywhere at night. Packs of them have been filmed roaming the streets of Seattle at night. Also eagles and large birds of prey have been filmed with cats in their talons. I saw a documentary on Coyotes and they are everywhere these days, it's been estimated that there are over 20,000 in the city of Chicago. You may think your cat is a little tiger but those wild animals will have no problem dealing with your tiger. On KZread I saw a video of a coyote near Hollywood running down the sidewalk with two cats in it's mouth. So if you love your cat, please don't let it outside to roam.

Toronto, Canada is full of coyotes too, and not only do they snatch cats but sometimes even small dogs too!
Mine luckily stays very close to home and when he is outside he comes back every so hour to see if i'm home.
I live in rural Cambodia, and keeping cats here is almost impossible. They always disappear. It's a combination of things: there are a LOT of mice, rats, squirells, lizards and other things to hunt so they don't need humans, but they can also be killed by wild dogs or get a disease. But if you lose a cat, you can guarantee another one will turn up. You end up with a kind of rotation of cats.
I dont understand how street cats are so loyal and lil spoiled house cats are escape artists
When I was a kid we had a cat, super friendly, relaxed, a real sweetheart, we got another cat, he turned mean and escaped and would come around once in awhile but would never come indoors and wanted nothing to do with us.😥

I unfortunately live in Arizona, it is dangerous for cats to be outside. I sold my house of 28 years two years ago. There would be coyotes that would come on my street, when cats came to my house, I tried to catch them and take them to the rescue, but I was only able to get one. I have a cat myself, and she was only allowed outside with me on a leash. One night I heard a strange sizzle sound, I had just finished cooking, and was about to get up and see what was happening in the kitchen. My husband came in then from work and said there was a rattlesnake on the patio, and my cat was at the screen door. She was staring down that snake which was coiled in striking pose about 2ft from the screen door. She did not like when I made her get away. She was ready to protect her home. When the people came to remove it, they said it could easily have struck her through the screen, I was so happy it didn’t happen that way. They did tell me that it was smart to only let her out on the leash. I told them she used to like to go in the bush that was right by my door. They told me to never let her go in the bushes, even if she is on the leash and everything looks safe, because it is very dangerous. I don’t believe people should let their cats outside. I understand it is their nature to be outside, but it isn’t safe, there are evil humans that hurt cats too.

Yup. Had a sicko neighbor like that once when I was very little, a boy who who went to school with us who has a sick habit of harming squirrels, chipmunks, possums, cats, you name it. We moved away ages ago and I have no idea what became of that kid when he grew up but I honestly doubt anything good. People please listen to this lady and keep your cats inside, for the love of God.

We have coyotes up here in Toronto, Canada, who occasionally snack on cats! They live in downtown parks very close to people, and have sometime even killed small dogs!

@@user-lo7eo3nt6t Yeah this is why no pet should be left outside unsupervised. I get it if you’re on a farm and they’re farm animals, some people keep outdoor dogs and cats in that scenario, and I completely understand, they know the risks and have the animals not merely as a pet but for a farm purpose (like killing rodents to keep out of the corn without using as much chemical for rodents, or sheep herding in the case of dogs). So I’m not gonna give a farmer a hard time, they know the wildlife risks. But for the average pet owner who ignorantly romanticizes how “animals are part of nature” and let their pets roam outside… if you’re emotionally attached to your pet, don’t be surprised when they get sick or injured beyond repair or go missing. If you wouldn’t let your child roam around outside like that, don’t let your pet roam around outside like that. Yes they have instincts, but they actually aren’t as well adapted for outdoor survival as actual wild animals are. We’ve bred these breeds of cats and dogs for domestication, and they’re not biologically optimized for free-roaming outdoors without your supervision. Any harm that comes to them is your responsibility.

@@user-lo7eo3nt6t Not to mention, even with instincts, those instincts don’t prepare them for being surrounded by trucks and vehicles that can run them over. It’s just sad to see how irresponsible and neglectful some people can be, and how they shrug off their irresponsibility like it’s no big deal. It’s a big deal that a life is harmed or suffers fatal injury because you don’t want to be responsible for a creature we genetically designed and you decided to adopt. Smdh at some people being so blasé about their animals going missing or acting like it’s a sad stroke of fate for themselves and not their own fault when it is.
Thank you 🙏✨😽♥️🤍

Awe they like peace & Quiet. How would people not know that. Poor things.
We had two cats that just vanished. Toby was the first to vanish. But he was a naughty boy. He was nosy so any vans that pulled into the small turning area and stopped to unload, 9/10, he'd have jumped into the back. Just to have a look around. Luckily, drivers normally would see him just stood in the back of their van and usher him out. So we believe he did his usual _"thing",_ but wasn't seen till a diver got to their next destination and he'd jump out. Somewhere. The Last time we saw Toby was on 12 April 2012. But he was an old boy even then. But Twinkle _(My missus named her!)_ was a funny girl. She started to go off for a couple days or so, then would just appear for dinner and stay. Then these couple days started to get to a week. She'd reappear looking very well and still fed, but wanting dinner. Then the last time we saw her was on 17th August 2017. She'd have been 10 years old. and if she was alive still, 18 now. But our last two cats have now passed away. Tatty, was 13 and had incurable and inoperable liver cancer. She was put to sleep on 17th December 2019. Christmas that year was horrid. And our last cat, Albert _(Twinky's son.)_ died peacefully in his sleep 16th August 2022. He was 16. Born in the house and is buried no more that 30 ft from where he first appeared. In the missus's cupboard. On some of her clothes. Which I found most amusing 8-))... Even today, we miss all four of them.
The truth is that they don't need you. They can discover their inner food bowl!
I had a grown cat that died from a illness and when he died my other cat who wasn't as old but was raised with him didn't realize he died. For days he would wonder off looking for my dead cat who i burried in the yard... and he never left the house before that. Finally after a couple weeks he took off looking and never returned. Poor little cat, all he wanted was his friend back who never did return cause he had died. To this day i have no idea where that cat went and what happened to him. I hope he finally found peace knowing his friend would never be seen again. If my cat hadn't died i know they'd both be on the front porch laying around waiting on me to feed them everyday.
My cat doesn’t even like going To the door 🚪 😂 💯 indoor cat 🐈
Letting my cat out after breakfast is important to him. He is a hunter an explorer,,good for his well being, however he stays in all night away from danger...

I disagree. This is dangerous. You think a cat knows perfectly how to cross the street? Or able to fend off big predators? Keep the cat inside/catio. But ... since your cat is used to letting out. You opened the pandora box.
❤😻😼🐈👍there much Loved is always the mane thing always here kitty kitty 😺 ❤
I will say that my tabby cat "Deuce" was given to me by my son who said I just needed to take care of him while he found a new place...that was 7 years ago! Anyhow, I had a great dog "Koko" and Deuce was an indoor cat so I kept him that way. About 20 months ago I started letting him outside. He watched Koko for about 6 years go outside, do his business then come back inside over and over again. He actually learned that "I go outside then I come back". Unique situation I suppose but it worked. Sadly I had to put Koko down last July in his debilitating health.
Our resident cat never ran away for over 4 years. Goes from home to home within the compound. A litter of kittens here and there throughout the years. Eventually she got catnapped after giving birth to a long-furred kitten (that looks better than the common short-furred cats).
One of my cats never stays home long 😪 he hates us and eats and runs out and if you try to pet it, it gets startled It yells at us, and leaves.😢 It's brother misses it
My daughters were brought up with cats and each daughter has 2 cats. However one of my daughter's cat left home. She came back one day with a note attached to her collar asking if she belonged to anyone. My daughter let her go to the new home as that is what the cat wanted. A bossy sister cat a new baby and a mother who had to work away from home were all to much for that little cat.
#1 - the neighbor has treats 😂
The current cat we have visits our house when he is hungry.. after eating he stays in our house for sometime and then leaves and goes to other houses for food and love.. that's totally ok for us because afterall they are free..and we will never lock up a cat no matter how much stress relief we need
In New Brunswick, Canada...cats that are left to roam the neighborhood, is illegal and they are considered animals "at large". They live longer when they are kept indoors or if they have a controlled "enclosure" or tether & harness.
Because some people find a nice kitty thinking it's a stray and never let it back out the house once the cat gets into their house.
Apparently, I have a great big neon sign that only wounded wayward animals can see. Never, never ever, never do I have a problem with animals running Away.
Give them enough love and they will always try to come back :)

We had a cat run away.. and a few years later he showed up with a little family and then we never saw him again. It was like he was letting us know he was ok and happy 😢
My cat ran away on the Good Friday of the Alaska earthquake. Never saw him again. Still think of him.

Be good to your CAT. He is So right.
Our cats were different. When the family moved from the home lot to the farm lot which was about a kilometer away (more than half of a mile) they keep on going back to the old house (home lot),
My friend had a cat that we saw coming out of someone else's house around the corner from where he lived by another name.
I adopted a feral kitten and she is dubbed as “Houdini”. She escapes about 3 or 4 times a day, but somehow, she never ventures out of the backyard and ends showing up by the back door after awhile.

😅😅 I've posted videos of my cat Felix when he would escape outside. I would call him Felix Houdini 😅
It has something to do with the rain … leaching loamy dirt. Or the way the back lane comes alive. Half moon whispers, ‘go.’
The faces these animals pull lol
Cats need and want LOVE and Attention , When they LOVE someone in the house and DO NOT get love back They feel sad and NOT wanted then they may leave.
I allow my cat out to back garden. She can come go out climbing over the fence but won’t stay outside too long. No many cars around. She is spayed. It has been four years and she always comes back home. There are crows and dogs outside, she thinks her house is safe and never allows other stays coming nearby
If you have ever seen a cat chasing a butterfly or climbing a tree you would feel guilty keeping them imprisoned in a house. Like the vet said, cats live longer inside but they are happier outside.
I've never had a cat leave and not come back other than one. She was a special case. I found her as a feral kitten. When she was inside she was sweet and docile but as soon as she went outside a switch flipped. It was crazy. Twice I was able to lure her in. One time she got out and i never saw her again. 😢
My beloved black long hair got stolen. February 29. Been searching every day for him since. He was fixed. I am beside myself as he slept touching me for 6 years. There was no reason for him to leave.

My favorite cat of all time, Starbuck, grew larger overtime, and very contented. I lived in the woods, and Starbuck would occasionally disappear. One day it spent an afternoon with me, i noticed his flea collar very tight, and removed it. Next day, never saw it again, either a coyote got it, or found another home. I suspect found another place to live, observing its weight gain and general prosperity.

That’s awful. I wish people would stop feeding other people’s cats. Unless it’s a stray of course.
My cat is known in my immediate neighbourhood and has a second home very near to my house. She spends the.daylight hours there. The children pamper her and feed her. She comes home whenever I call her name at dusk and sleeps on my bed at night. When I am out of town this family happily takes care of her sparing both my cat and I the stress and agony of her being caged up in a cat hotel.
If your cat is acting like he wants to leave, call a taxidermist.
