It's a very wide angle lens that is shooting from a high point, so everything will look small with this combination. The trains are actually normal size, this is the UK, they got plenty of safety standards to meet and other rules and regulations to obey.

That's a horrid design, I like to see the train come in and go past, I get the whole safety thing, but cotton wool states, much.. it use to be nice when we could stand on the platform an not worry about ppl diving infront the train or worse being pushed

No, than, in 1960th, there was an experiment with this new type of station to reduce the costs of construction. After some years of exploitation the metro authorities found some disadvantages and stopped to build such stations.

@@curiousnomadic Soviet authorities passed a decision in 1955 ordering to put as goal cutting costs for projecting and constructing. So that proposal not to build side, large passenger tunnels followed this criteria. And it's mentioned in the article. That experiment in Saint-Petersbourg finished in 1972 because trains passed too much time on such stations for boarding in comparison to normal stations (so it limits a number of trains in a peak hour) plus an extra cost for maintaining doors. So they never thought about jumpers for first reasoning. After 1972, Saint-Petersbourg returned to the standard station construction. Only one station was built nearly there with modern, not that style screen doors some years ago.
