The Glasgow Subway is the third oldest in the world after London and Budapest. Construction of Glasgow’s circular twin tunnel route was started before Budapest's but as it was a much larger and more complex project than Budapest's original cut-and-cover route it took longer to complete, giving Budapest second place and Glasgow third.

I'm from Glasgow, & have been on its Underground trains many times. The subway system, which only goes around in an "0" shape, was built in 1895 & hasn't been expanded since then! But it's still very useful for getting around the city. Until recently it still used the ancient carriages!
