@@user-ob7ln5vi6j i have no doubts things are going faster in first tier Indian cities, but the Chinese specificity i'm talking about is their unique ability to provide far more to second and third tier cities, the distribution of resources seems more "egalitarian" across the board. Plus access to the network for the general Chinese population is guaranteed by more reasonable prices. So far, India seems to have among the most expensive Metros on the planet, adjusted to India per capita incomes

True, many systems are really on the borderline, such as Fortaleza (included) and Seville (not included) and Tyne & Wear, Newcastle (not included), just to name a few.

@totre-hv5jb
Next year Bangkok will be up from 140 km existing heavy rail metro to include 65 km of new monorail metro system, and another 35 km of heavy rail metro again in the next few years (hopefully). If you include commuter rail (that just opened), the airport link now (30km) and the monorail system, the total length in Bangkok will be 275 km. If all goes well, Bangkok will have 540 km of urban railway within 2030 (IMO 2040 is more realistic)
What font are you using for the years ?
Love to see this graph after 10 years
I was waiting this video! However, you missed subway of Mecca of Saudi Arabia. Generally, thank you very much!

5:09 Tashkent metro is one of the best underground railway, every station is so unique and mesmerising 🇺🇿❤️
Venezuela has a second metro in Valencia, and the Caracas metro opened more lines in recent years as far as I know.
Ecuador open its first metro line a couple months ago.
5:07 hello from Tashkent Uzbekistan thanks for preparing this video
Nice work. Could have excluded Shanghai Maglev since its current frequency is relatively low and is pretty much useless as of now.

It would be fun if they showed the Omsk metro that nowadays consists of the single opened station
Actually interesting how the focus changed from Europe/USA and a wee bit of south america to east Asia over the centuries.
this is great!!! Though Boston actually had the first subway system in America not NYC. NYC had urban trains but they didn't run underground

Actually New York City's first metro rails were overground railways in Manhattan. Their first underground railway didn't open until 1903 iirc.

There was that one railway in that guy's basement in 1868 though...

Metros don't have to be underground. The first line of what would become the NYC Subway was the 9th Avenue El, which opened in 1868. Like London, Chicago, and many other cities on the list, the line was not upgraded to "Metro" standards until later on. Of course, all of that is moot since the Ninth Avenue Line was demolished in 1940.
Pls do history of the athens metro 1869-2022
Oslo one is wrong. Metro started in 1898 up to Holmenkollen. In 1928 the tunnel section to Nationaltheateret was built and in full operation with Valkyrien as an underground station in-between. The Volvat station was also built underground. In 1966 the eastern part was built with the third rail. But the trains had the same size and when Stortinget was built there were no issues joining the two networks as they were pretty similar.
Last year karaj ( a city near Tehran) got first line of it's own metro
Fun. Fact the lille metro is the first automatic metro of the World
Actually Istanbul metro’s history is going back to 1875. First underground rail (metro) in İstanbul strated to operate in 1875, under the name “tünel” with only one line and two stations. The big network was built almost 100 years later. So İstanbul s info should be updated in the video as “1875”

@@metrocucumber The Sevilla Metro is one though, and you completely forgot it. Although I certainly can understand that, since there are so many systems in the World, but Seville is quite a well known system so I was not expecting that to be missing. Oh, and If even PATH and BART even count as a subway, wouldn't Berlin and Hamburg S-Bahn too?

Would’ve been interesting to have an overlay in the later decades of EXACTLY how interconnected to INTERCITY (and for the closest spaced regions, commuter/regional) rail lines within the country (or the entire continent in Western EU’s case). At least streetcars & varying standards of BRT are currently BLOWING UP in the US. As well as plentiful 1980s-90s era LRT systems most likely to get most of their rolling stock substantially replaced before the decade is out. To American standards, that’s a transit boom on our end… LA in particular should focus ALL new metro lines/stations along the I-5 & I-405 corridors, with the Bay Area doing absolutely whatever they can to expand accordingly for the folks that live in the Central Valley (as BART appears to moreso be a “regional/commuter/suburban” based system as opposed to a traditional metro) as in recent decades, plentiful Silicon Valley workers live that particular direction due to RIDICULOUS living costs within the Bay Area itself.
