STATMed Learning

STATMed Learning

Our mission at STATMed Learning is to teach smart medical students and physicians the specific skills they need to study, maximize time, and take boards-style tests. We share tactics that struggling medical students and doctors can use to study more effectively. We also help self-identified “bad test-takers” learn strategies to excel on board exams.

While other programs focus on the WHAT, we focus on the HOW: HOW to study, HOW to maximize time, and HOW to show what you know on boards-style tests. This comes from our core belief that methodology matters.

While STATMed Learning is not suited for everyone, there is a significant hidden subset of med students, physicians, and those in related fields (veterinarians, Pharm Ds, and PAs) who need better methods to advance comfortably through the classroom years, rotations, and board exams. And that is exactly what STATMed Learning was created to unlock.

This describes so well my last attempts at taking the NREMT paramedic exam, especially with the adaptive nature of the exam. Thank you so much for putting into words what I've been struggling to explain to instructors who always just ask, "do you get test anxiety?"

Wow. Way to miss the point entirely and still write an article about it. Yoda means emotionally. I will not TRY to love, I will not TRY to hate. I will be myself. Any time you say; "I really should . . . " at the thought of an action, maybe you shouldn't.

I’m more productive when reading textbook on my own. To me, the lecturers talk about things so slowing that it’s hard to focus.

left anesthesia school after 6 months. i would spend hours and hours studying get to my test and all the questions look like another language, i would have no clue what the question was asking, coupled with severe anxiety and down right confusion. i believe ive been going undiagnosed my whole life. The issues you talk about is probably what I was experiencing and didn’t know.

I have never related to a video more. It really effects my self esteem when I leave a test thinking I made a million impulse mistakes that don’t accurately reflect my knowledge, I definitely want to work on my test taking skills vs just “knowledge”

This reaffirmed what I previously thought I needed to improve upon in my studies. I have the problem of spending way too much time studying and being very inefficient while doing it. I’m a perfectionist and it is hard to break the idea that I don’t have to reread every slide to make sure I “know” the material. Retrieval practice, at a minimum to start off your studying, is the most effective way to see where you really stand currently. After you take a try at what you know, you can more easily fill in the gaps.

I mostly miss details on the questions, or I get confused with the answer. Yes or no questions are very confusing to me because I never know what they’re actually asking. Similar words mess up with my knowledge and sometimes I have to make up acronyms and rhymes to remember them. And sometimes I think I know the answer? Just to find out I didn’t read the question well and miss small details like “no” or “isn’t”

What are the most effective ways for students to try establishing that framework before going into lecture? Should they create an outline with topics and subtopics, while leaving empty space for details?

Is the tutoring service available to premedical students with ADHD? It would be great to get more help with studying methods (and more time to figure out what works for me) before the tidal wave of medical school, as well as getting assistance to succeed in premed classes/MCAT prep.

Recent OT graduate student here with ADHD. Been studying for my board’s which is how I came upon this channel after realizing that I keep struggling to do well on practice questions despite having reviewed/studied content for 12weeks. Started to ask myself, “Hmm maybe it’s related to my ADHD and not my knowledge” lol.

If Yoda and the Jedi in general weren’t awful then Anakin wouldn’t have fallen to the dark side. Also the do or do not thing, I think, has more to do with the force being based on willpower (at the time), if you doubt yourself you become weaker. If you believe you can do something then you probably can and that’s it. That being said, yeah, I agree. Yoda is a terrible teacher for a normal person and definitely a terrible teacher for how the force wound up working later on.
