    As a german, I've seen the advertisements around town and gotten curious. I haven't read the books yet, because I'm more a fantasy than a romance reader, but once I found out that "Save me" (german title of the first book) is a boarding school romance I was interested. I'm probably getting the book from my library some time next week. The books were a hugely popular phenomenon here in Germany in book circles!

    I am hanging out for the English translations. I can't even get the German ebooks at this point. If I had those, I could probably manage to read them with the help of my dictionary and Google translate :D I hope you enjoy the books but definitely watch the series - it's actually amazingly good at subverting tropes. It's been really good for my casual German language studies as well - I'm curious about whether Germans actually use so many English phrases in every day life, though.. like do you really say 'happy birthday' instead of Alles Gute zum Geburtstag etc

    I hope they get translated to English for you. I think the series has already gotten translated to spanish and italian. Maybe because it's the german amazon the ebook looks still available to me. If you wanted, I could get you a pdf though. Yes, I'm definitely planning on watching the show after reading the books. I did the opposite with Culpa Mia and that wasn't the right thing, I should've read the book first. Still, though Culpa Mia (My Fault in English) was a cliche wattpad romance, the movie made it just very fun. But because that was originally in spanish and I speak a bit and can kind of read it, I'm trying to read the other books in spanish, so I relate to casual language studies.

    Also yes; Happy Birthday is quite common (at least among people under 40), even singing the song in english instead of german is somewhat common. But it's less that it's just the English version, but usually both. So for a birthday card you'd use both to have more variety, but it's interchangably used. English is taught at every school and not an elective, also English is very much seen as cool, so while we do have our own slang, young people like me are, very much interested in english popculture (watching youtube in english, there are undubbed viewings of popular movies like Dune)

    @@Lara-mx4cd I really hope you enjoy this series when you watch it. I had SUCH low expectations of it but decided to watch it anyway and as you can see, it has consumed my brain for the last few days. I think I'm on my third rewatch :P I have watched other German shows before but they tended to be on the heavy side like Babylon Berlin etc. This was a little lighter but still angsty and sooooooooo much fun

    @@koalabear6089 yeess, I hope so too. Haha, yes I think we produced a few historic dramas and those are usually heavy. Dark was also good, but that time-travel show was also quite ... dark. 3 rewatches, that's a bit, considering it's still so new. Really happy you enjoyed it so much! I was busy enjoying Eurovision yesterday, but in the next three weeks I have some time, so I'll definitely watch it then. Angsty and fun sounds great

    Could I substitute plain milk powder? I do not have malted. First time making frosting in the ankasrum. Would love more frosting ideas! My first Ankasrum Chocolate cake is on the oven now! Thank you!

    Good luck with the cake! I hope it turned out delicious. I use malted milk because I like the taste of the malt. You don't really need it if you already have vanilla flavour - or you could lightly toast some milk powder in a saucepan over the stove to give it a slightly toasty flavour :D I've got a video where I made a chocolate cake (Guinness chocolate cake) using the beater bowl and balloon whisk the first time and the roller the second time. Cakes both turned out fine although both methods have pros and cons :)

    I'm with you on our 'android' mixer :) What's your favourite way of getting butter to room temp, or do you just use the roller and find that works OK?

  • @battlestarkoala
    @battlestarkoala4 ай бұрын

    It's summer in Australia right now so honestly just leaving the butter out for an hour or so means that it's super soft! It gets cold here in winter and room temp butter is rock hard so I usually nuke it around 20 seconds in the microwave depending on size of the block and how cold it is. I was really happy with how the buttercream turned out. I'll upload a video of how a génoise sponge cake turned out recently.

    This is Richard here. I do completely agree with you on the rating system conundrum. Austin and I had a long disagreement on the nature of genres, that some genres by their nature will 9 times out of 10 never break a 7 mark. I agree that purely entertainment books should not be in the same weight class as others that completely change the writing landscape (your LOTR vs a romance book is a good example). As for the sexual violence point in Red Rising, I can see how that is seen as lazy. If makes for uncomplex villains and makes it easy for readers to spot the characters that will die in the end. Wonderful points, I am sorry it took so long to respond back.

    dar adal gives saul a copy of a video that haqqani was holding onto. it seems to be a major plot point in the finale but i'm so confused about the content. was it when saul told the CIA not to exchange the prisoners for him? why would that be so valuable?! It’s the video they made of Saul in S4.E09, before the prisoner exchange. It’s basically proof that Saul was held prisoner by the Taliban. At the time Saul wanted back in the CIA-he wanted to be director again! If that video had been made public, it would totally have derailed not only his bid but any chance he had to do real intelligence work in the CIA again (similarly, everyone freaks out in S4.E01 when an image of Sandy is leaked on the news). It was essentially blackmail. Of course, in the end, Carrie derailed his bid anyway, and for that we continue to stan.

    Also who is doing this fleetwood Mac cover? Great choice! Btw, I love Dr. Hussain and Qassim. I Actually shed a tear for Qassim in the s.5 finale. "It was you. You saved my friend." And Not enough credit to Quinn for turning/persuading/enlightening Qassim in 5.9. so brave - both of them. I was also frustrated with how useless Saul was in s.4 after his kidnapping - nice reference. If Quinn were successfully revived from the coma, he would have recalled names of the jihadists and descriptions, description of where he was kept captive, etc. even if he didn't know the target. But alas, it was not to be...

    "Oy! I'm alive!" (In an Ozzie accent :D also, I know it's TV land, but it's hard to believe that after meeting with Dar, Quinn would have gone with the jihadists without any backup plan, i.e., a tracker, listening devices, a drone, something, anything. And damn, you called it on the dar-Quinn relationship 2 seasons early!

    Koala, I had never read fan fiction before but I need escapism these days so... Quinn could have been sent to hill school and Harvard by dar -- from a rough childhood in Baltimore. That's how I envision it. I worked at hill school for a summer so can see it perfectly (Baltimore is not far from philly where hill school is). Come on, Quinn is highly intelligent, analytical and speaks Arabic, Urdu, Pashto, German and presumably Spanish. He can modulate himself to circumstances (hence the cocky 'acting' in s. 2) and can move between worlds. Virgil also said Quinn's background checked out in s.2 - simple to check school and college enrollment. It would be silly to lie about something like that. Quinn says his academic credentials are "important in our family", i.e., dar's group. And he is the best in an elite group. He's not some automaton. He could have had a great career outside of the CIA. Ex military, especially elite service members, are in high demand in graduate school, especially top business schools, because of their leadership experience, and in private sector such as McKinsey or intelligence and geopolitical consulting. I met many of them in grad school. I envision Quinn "like that". :) What do you think? Oh, and even though he told Landlady/Eden differently in s. 4, he also said he had no marketable skills. Obviously not true!

    4.30 hilarious! :D reda needs a showtime subscription (or should watch KZread). 6:30 Quinn discussion starts :) Quinn saved Max's life and that of the other hostages in S4 as Haqqani ordered them killed. I thought the cans scene was to select the weapon he later uses against Tommy. And I think he threw the mug and was angry because she locked the door on him. I was struck that Quinn still had his sense of humor in 6.1 and 6.2 "on the floor"

    Thanks for your Blurb. I agree with you and Mariana Cunha up until the part of not being a couple. I do believe that the writers can make it work because for any couple and especially this one, because they're spies, there are Ups and Downs but you work through them. Quinn and Carrie have never had someone's back like they have each other's and I believe that they're both so afraid of showing each other how much they care for one another because it's easier to walk away and not get hurt. Then, to truly invest your heart and have it broken because each one of them knows that this heartache would truly hurt and they wouldn't be able to get over it! The writers are great and I'm sure that they can still keep it interesting week to week! There are a lot more viewers and have kept those viewers with them because of Quinn and Carrie. So, they have to please their fans because it's the right thing to do for US!

    Thanks for the video. It's interesting because I do not think that the writers of this tv show, by default an espionage thriller, were expecting such a development with regards to these two characters' interactions. So now, they will have to find a way to put them together without damaging the thrill that the 'be or not to be together' theme has been capturing so many viewers. Continuing to work on a 'meant to fail relationship but we still have hope' kind of thing is not that difficult to pull out on a show (from the perspective of a viewer, of course) but keeping that relationship interesting when the couple is finally together, is all another matter entirely.
