Koala Speaks - Maxton Hall Season 1 Spoiler Free Review (audio only)

Ойын-сауық

I've become obsessed with Maxton Hall: The World Between Us /Die Welt Zwischen Uns, a 6 part German language series that premiered on amazon prime on 9 May. It's a lot of fun. I had a lot of thoughts. I had to talk about it. So this is my very basic, low tech review :D Sorry it's so low tech. I'd never get it out if I tried to be fancy. I may do a separate spoilery video addressing tropes that contains video footage.

Thank you for your thoughts. I like to listen to them. Please share more. I, myself, was very impressed by the show. It is indeed a joy to watch for many reasons.

I just binge watched all of your videos on Maxton Hall because like you, I can't get this story and these characters out of my head! It is so rare to find good romance movies/tv shows! The classic tropes were executed so well that it did not feel too cliché! I loved the acting of all the actors and particularly the two main leads! Their chemistry ❤ They have a connection that felt so real! As you said, the supporting characters are very interesting as well! Lydia is definitely a stand out! This series was so good that when I finally watched Bridgertons season 3 part 1, I felt that it paled in comparison! Ruby and James have my heartv😁

As a german, I've seen the advertisements around town and gotten curious. I haven't read the books yet, because I'm more a fantasy than a romance reader, but once I found out that "Save me" (german title of the first book) is a boarding school romance I was interested. I'm probably getting the book from my library some time next week. The books were a hugely popular phenomenon here in Germany in book circles!

I am hanging out for the English translations. I can't even get the German ebooks at this point. If I had those, I could probably manage to read them with the help of my dictionary and Google translate :D I hope you enjoy the books but definitely watch the series - it's actually amazingly good at subverting tropes. It's been really good for my casual German language studies as well - I'm curious about whether Germans actually use so many English phrases in every day life, though.. like do you really say 'happy birthday' instead of Alles Gute zum Geburtstag etc

I hope they get translated to English for you. I think the series has already gotten translated to spanish and italian. Maybe because it's the german amazon the ebook looks still available to me. If you wanted, I could get you a pdf though. Yes, I'm definitely planning on watching the show after reading the books. I did the opposite with Culpa Mia and that wasn't the right thing, I should've read the book first. Still, though Culpa Mia (My Fault in English) was a cliche wattpad romance, the movie made it just very fun. But because that was originally in spanish and I speak a bit and can kind of read it, I'm trying to read the other books in spanish, so I relate to casual language studies.

Also yes; Happy Birthday is quite common (at least among people under 40), even singing the song in english instead of german is somewhat common. But it's less that it's just the English version, but usually both. So for a birthday card you'd use both to have more variety, but it's interchangably used. English is taught at every school and not an elective, also English is very much seen as cool, so while we do have our own slang, young people like me are, very much interested in english popculture (watching youtube in english, there are undubbed viewings of popular movies like Dune)

@@Lara-mx4cd I really hope you enjoy this series when you watch it. I had SUCH low expectations of it but decided to watch it anyway and as you can see, it has consumed my brain for the last few days. I think I'm on my third rewatch :P I have watched other German shows before but they tended to be on the heavy side like Babylon Berlin etc. This was a little lighter but still angsty and sooooooooo much fun

@@koalabear6089 yeess, I hope so too. Haha, yes I think we produced a few historic dramas and those are usually heavy. Dark was also good, but that time-travel show was also quite ... dark. 3 rewatches, that's a bit, considering it's still so new. Really happy you enjoyed it so much! I was busy enjoying Eurovision yesterday, but in the next three weeks I have some time, so I'll definitely watch it then. Angsty and fun sounds great
