Welcome to my channel, Good-Simon Gear (a.k.a. G.Simon Gear, GSG). Thanks so much for stopping by! My name's Garrett; I'm big into playing bass, writing music, trail running, and backpacking. I currently play bass for the northern Vermont-based metalcore band Arise the Giant - check out their channel at the link below! I formerly played bass for the Greenville, SC-based progressive rock band State of Illusion. This channel is where I document adventures in bass, metal, & the outdoors!
Here's the philosophy I take on my little grooves here: I enjoy making bass-centric songs, allowing the instrument to add a unique texture and feel to the music that's not suitable within guitar- or vocal-oriented tunes. While I'm certainly no virtuoso (a quick KZread search for "best bassist ever" will confirm that), I'll add complexity when the song calls for it (assuming I can actually play said complex part...). All the other times, I'm focused on holding down the groove!

I need Triumph vs Corvette Streamer vs Corvette Thankyou
Thanks for the review. Here's an idea that I don't think anyone has done yet or at least not that I can find. I have a Lag Hy-vibe acoustic guitar, it creates effects through a transducer connected to the body which essentially turns the body of the guitar into a speaker through vibration. Sounds really good! What if an acoustic bass implemented the same concept but with a larger driver that could deliver low end and volume? Sure, it might take more power and require keeping a 20v built in battery charged; But I know a lot of bassists that wouldn't mind having some low end and volume in an acoustic jam session or even for practice.
@@CSProduction12 interesting! I hadn't heard of that before. My acoustic physics background probably isn't strong enough to make an informed opinion on that, but it'd be cool to see, especially for bass! Thanks for watching.
bro.
Loved the tone and your playing as well. I want to know was EMG 45's direct fit to those Fishmans? Or you had to route the pickups cavity? Its strange because EMG 45's are for 6 string bass. And they put it in 5 string bass like dimension HP series. why did they do it i dont know. And where did you get those stacked DG preamp?
Thank you! Yes, the newer Dimension 5 models use 45's (6-string pickups). This made sure that the edges of the pickup properly captured the low and high string - when regular 5-string pickups are slanted, they're not long enough to span the range of the strings.
Nice skills!
Thank you! Hope you liked it!
Which string gauge do you use?
142 on the bottom, some stuff in between, I think 118, 98, 80, and 60 on the top.
Which string gauge do you use for G standard?
Sorry for the late reply! Lowest 142, highest 60. I don't remember the exact gauges in the middle, I think 118, 98, 80 ? It was a quirky mixture I made from Circle K strings! Thanks!
Great demo, it’s truly captured the character of each bass, I notice always the scoop sound of the spector, more compressed and that honky upper mids of the maple, very solid and authoritative but softer attack, and while the streamer have that classic mid forward mids and open wider sound of a bolt on less compressed and less mid scooped character of the wenge and way more snap due to bolt on too, I prefer the streamer, is like a improved spector
Thanks for watching! Yeah, The mids are really where you hear the big differences between the two, although they're hardly similar in most other aspects besides the body as well haha!
One is honky, the other is honkier
Hi, Great video WHERE DO YOU GET the rac EARS for the X18?
Hi! It was from a small shop somewhere on Etsy.
There's just something about a Warwick I'm really digging wish a shop had some to test out where i live
Hey Jason! Yeah, they're something special! Admittedly, I've always had to buy my Warwicks blind. I played Rockbasses as a kid, so I think I just assumed that I'd feel comfortable with the real thing. Fortunately, I ended up liking them!
Man I want that Warwick
Holy shit dude! I like the direction you’re going 🤘🏻
Thanks Shando! I appreciate it. The guitar work could definitely use some of your skill though!
sounds to me that thumb got more mid range growl which is based on pick up placement
My thought as well! Thanks for watching.
Great demo! I'm looking forward to mine arriving this week!!!
That's awesome! I'm excited for you. What finish are you going for?
@@gsimongear Natural finish with a maple fretboard.
And Warwick makes lots of left hand ones too! Spector not so much
A thing of beauty!
For sure! Music Man hit the nail on the head with this colorway. Thanks for stopping by and watching!
I don’t like the Spector’s , sound design , body style etc..I played it well, to me it’s the WARWICK that far superior, I recently got my TRAM BUILT CORVETTE DOUBLE BUCK, it’s Amazing ! The “B” string is the most clear one I have ever played , I don’t play metal , I go from Blues to Gospel and everything in between. Can’t put it down. I also own MM STING RAY double and singe Buck, Yamaha BBNE2 (you must demo one) *Subscribed*
Awesome tone and playing!
Thank you so much, Daniel! I hope you enjoyed the listen.
Huh, your stuffs are kinda getting more evil, I like it :)
"Evil" haha - I like it! Maybe I should start doing some more stuff along these lines then? Anyways, thank you so much for stopping by Anders!
Nice green with those subtle metal flakes. Obnoxious and sparkle do not belong in the same sentence. BLASPHEMY!!!
👍
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate it. Hope you liked the riffs!
@@gsimongear Sure. And the bass sounds amazing ;)
@@redison3443 thank you! Spector makes getting a good tone easy!
I haven't read through the responses but I would be shocked if no one else has mentioned the fact that comparing a bass with humbucker soapbars to jazz single coils will always be drastically different. That and the difference in woods used on these 2 bass making them totally different sonically.
Yep, in retrospect, I made a pretty glaring omission regarding the pickups. I'm a little less sold on the impact of tonewoods, however. Thanks for watching!
Longer range🥲? People have been using musicman bassed for drop f and even lower for decades my man
I'm just waiting that the Grape Crush color becomes available in my region. It's a long wait!
Oh yeah...that Grape Crush is killer! Literally the only reason I chose Kiwi Green over that color was the matching headstock! I hope you get your hands on one!
That color isn’t me, I wouldn’t get that color , but I’m happy for you Brother! My newest STINGRAY HH is what they call SNOWY NIGHT , my friends don’t dig it but I LOVE IT! lol
It's certainly a loud color! The snowy night looked really cool as well - anything with a matching headstock gets two thumbs up from me! Thanks for watching.
@@gsimongear always! I just got my first WARWICK, CORVETTE $$ it’s an AMAZING BASS!!
Nice video ! Will you do a video about the QC on what you like and not for bass ? :D
Maybe! I'm always torn about making Quad Cortex videos, since there's so much out there already. I don't use it for anything crazy, it's just really nice to consolidate all my electronics into a single box with all the ins and outs you could ever need.
@@gsimongear I was thinking about it since its release but though it was too expansive for what I would do with it. Pretty simple presets too, but after buying several units that cost me way more than a QC I think I could easily reproduce them with it with less time and money aha
The s/f/p filter is very useable, but i prefer the parallel
Just acquired a 35th anniversary special 5……the dpecials are really special. This one is a keeper! Thnx for this video, it helped me going for one.
It’s May 2024 as I write. I’m now considering making this specific model my next bass guitar. O kind of get why you aren’t so satisfied with it, but I still find it appealing as a fat stab at a headless model. I like the sound of those pickups, and playing it in a sitting position probably wouldn’t be an issue for me.
That's awesome! If the sound and body shape work for you, then I think it's a great value for the price, especially when compared to other "entry-level" headless basses. It definitely checks the box for portability, more so than any other full scale bass on the market, but the ergonomics simply aren't up my personal alley.
That’s understandable, GS. Some people take issue with the streamlined nature of the Steinberger L shape. It’s not for everyone.
Man, I saw this bass on the website but didn't think it looked good. But seeing it in motion it is absolutely gorgeous, congrats on the new bass. Hopefully you'll record something with it! Thanks for the video
Thanks! I agree - some of the photos out there don't bring out the best in it, but seeing it in some videos made me trust that it'd look good in person!
Dude I love bass central! I love all the guys up there I got one of my stingrays and my dingwall from them and it’s so fun taking the 3 hour trip to see them and the shop! Are you in FL? I love that color!
I'm a Northeast kid, but man, taking a trip to the Florida brick-and-mortar store would be awesome! That's so cool you've made the visit!
I agree. They are very awesome and knowledgeable @bassimprovjams3772. Cool color too. 😊💚
nice one. i like it.
Thanks so much!
Great comparison. Pro series: streamer vs thumb?
Thanks! That's a good idea. If you think it'd be useful, I'd be glad to put it on the to-do list!!
@@gsimongear I would appreciate it.
Is it physically possible to stack 5 X-Vive U4's side by side on 5 aux channels for 5 in-ear monitors?
I'm not sure...I don't think so. I'd recommend extending them with short XLR cables, as the Xvives are wider than a normal cable ending and probably wouldn't fit next to each other.
The Thumb is absolutely killer unique bass. The mid frequency makes it have more personality than the streamer.
I do enjoy how you barely have to tweak the EQ to get that growly, cutting-through tone!
Spector Tone Pump pre has an internal trim pot to dial back the gain - it comes maxed out as default which can be "a lot"
Yep! Part of me wishes you didn't have to remove the back cover to access it though.
I’ve been watching you videos and great content bro! I also have a brand new Warwick Pro Streamer and I was wondering what amps do you recommend to get the most of out it? I love the way your tone sounds. On your Streamer videos. 🔥👌🏻
Thank you so much Alex! That means a ton. Honestly, I rarely use my amp setup (Darkglass M500 + Barefaced One10T's). I'm almost always just playing through a Neural DSP B7KU llugin or using my quad cortex, often with a simple multi band distortion and cab sim for the grittier stuff.
Spector balanced multi or deep bass capability reproduction, versatility and longer sustain because their ONE PIECE construction giving compact strengh and stability.😊🎉 Also...CUSTOM SHOP AVAILABLE AT YOUR CHOICE.
Warwick for sure!
Warwick kicks butt every time!!!👁️♥️✌️😁
New in the Warwick family. Great tone! Did you upload the QC preset in the cloud?
Thank you!! No, I haven't uploaded it. It's really simple though! Just a high pass filter with a compressor on the low side and a B3K plugin on the high! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Regardless of being 34" scale, streamer has more bottom end and more growl. is it just me or spector seems a little thin compared to warwick?
Thanks for comparison Simon. I'm here as a thumb fan but I'm actually quite surprised by the results. I thought thumb had more growling mids but i saw streamer has even more growl. The blind test totally joked me. Seems like streamer is a valid option for my playing style.
Thanks for stopping by! The eyes can definitely be deceiving - I figured the blind test would give a bit more objectivity!
The best Stingray demo ever. Great tone, beautiful bass, awesome player.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Your phobia is justified. Glad they’re working out for you.
The idea of not being able to continue pursuing music throughout my life simply due to recklessness in my youth is unsettling. Fortunately, I'm glad there's enough awareness and gear available to prevent that nowadays! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great tone man!!!
Thanks!! The Dimension makes it easy to sound good!
We already know how awesome this bass sounds like Thumping it, but glad you did this video showing what it can do playing smooth
Yeah! While a Stingray will always sound like a Stingray, that tone works in so many more situation's than just a good slap riff. Thanks for watching!
🔥 🔥
Thank you James!
