    It's probably because your house was developed to focus on maximizing bedrooms and bathroom counts, not size of spaces, offices, etc.

    Hi there! Yes, there are a lot of great examples of courtyard houses in cities where the houses and buildings are connected. You can research Japanese courtyard houses in Tokyo and I’m sure you’ll find a lot of examples.

    Looking to build a house but I'd enjoy a open courtyard in the middle to use for garden and relaxing pebble stone pathway would be nice obviously sloping towards the center for a drain dropout I live in arkansas though the weather can barely decide what it's season is at times So I'm trying to find the pros and cons of a courtyard house or if I should got making a sun room but still in the center of the house

    That’s an interesting problem to solve. I’m working on a concept for a central courtyard design that has a glass roof enclosure over it. It’s in a northern climate, but the glass roof enclosure would help control the courtyard area’s temperature, humidity, and provide protection from the elements.

  • @Tim_Ung
    @Tim_Ung11 күн бұрын

    I think $28 a month is worth it for laser owners who have a shop that has a focus on maps. Alternatively, the amount of credits you receive for each month is enough to generate plenty of maps, so if you plan ahead and know what you're looking to design, it could be worth it for a 1 month trial run.

    Love the concept! Would like to see maybe a house with an enclosed glass area, but not an entire greenhouse covering the whole structure. Maybe that could be a way to have a house with the greenhouse interior, but a normal roof structure elsewhere. We had an enclosed (screened) pool patio in Florida, and lost it twice in hurricanes.

    Florida and hurricanes hurrah, hurrah. This concept can be accomplished with a completely glass roof that can withstand hurricanes. the glass however, unless you've got several million$$$ in the budget is rather expensive. my suggestion is that for the standard roof portion, you look into SIP's (Structural Insulated Panels, which can be CLT (cross laminated timber which is Uber strong). they have a life of no less than 60 years, whereas a traditional roof system up to only 25 years. then, get it covered completely with solar (there are so many new solar systems that dont look as offensive as before. many wont know you have solar unless you tell them). There is also Structural glass, which can support the ceilings without the need for columns. and theres Aluminium Oxynitride made famous by Star Trek. basically, it is a glass, made out of Aluminium. it is 4 times harder than glass made out of silicate, 85% harder than Sapphire, 115% harder than Magnesium Aluminate. It is the hardest polycrystalline transparent available commercially thanks to it's light weight, and is both bullet proof and blast resistant properties.

    amazing design, i wonder how do the plants affect the amount of oxygen available for people during night as plants release carbon dioxide trough respiration, wonder how many plants would be considered a limit for the space, i know that people release a lot more CO2 especially during sleep, so wondering. Any botanists here to enlighten us?

  • @Tim_Ung

    That’s a great question. My thoughts are that ventilation would mitigate issues with high oxygen and carbon dioxide. Most greenhouses have methods to circulate fresh air through fans, windows, etc., but I’m also curious to know from others who specialize in the trade!

    Honestly, I love the design but I'm wondering how this will fare if it's built in the tropics. Will it still stand if there's a typhoon (let alone floods) or flying debris or earthquake. If it's possible, can you make it adapt to a suburban setting.

  • @Tim_Ung

    These are all good points! As the location and conditions change, the shape and materials of the greenhouse would as well. In a way, it’s similar to how skyscrapers in different cities are built differently to deal with stronger winds, humidity (especially near oceans where low concentration of salt is in the air), earthquakes, etc.

    Hi Tim. Thanks for your excellent videos. I am going to build on a 2020 square meter block in Australia. Have you any experience in building a single story dwelling where the courtyard is wide enough to capture the northern aspect twice? I believe I would need an 8 - 10 meter width courtyard to make this possible and have plenty of space to achieve this.

  • @Tim_Ung
    @Tim_Ung21 күн бұрын

    Hi there! I haven't designed a single story house with a courtyard as wide as you mention. One thought that comes to mind is that the design and shape of the roof could also be used to capture the northern aspect twice. Although it's not a house, the VIA 57 residential building in NYC does something similar where the roof is pulled up at one corner and lower at the other, which opens views up towards the river. Good luck with your house!

But it requires constant capital inputs and a certain amount of risk if the SKU is a flop. How are your gross revenues n margins, and did you consider an indirect go to market reseller strategy with top Etsy artisans for 30 points? Curious…. lovely work btw!

Check out a house called Naturhus in Sweden on Apple TV+ where a family has lived in theirs for about a decade.
